The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folklore. As the tale is told, a man named Jack, who was notorious as a drunkard and trickster, tricked Satan into climbing a tree. Jack then carved an image of a cross in the trees trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree.

休息日 12月31日到第二天中午，是希腊的“主妇休息日”。这天，妇女在家里什么也不干，一切家务全由男人承担。

克拉拉·蔡特金 (Klara Zetkin) 1857年7月5日出生于德国萨克森州维德劳一个教师家庭，15岁时全家迁至莱比锡。1874年至1878年就读莱比锡私立师范学校。毕业后当过家庭教师，1878年结识流亡德国的俄国革命家奥西普·蔡特金，两人于1882年结婚。蔡特金在奥西普指导下阅读了《共产党宣言》和马克思、恩格斯的其他著作，并投身工人运动。1882年至1892年，她与丈夫及两个孩子流亡瑞士和法国巴黎，结识了马克思的女儿劳拉· 拉法尔格。1889年参加第二国际成立大会。1897年加入德国社会民主党。

后来，“三八鬼子”这句话一直流传下来，在流传过程中，人们为了简便，就缩为“三八”。凡是遇到那些行为不端，语言粗鲁、不遵礼仪的人，人们就说：“这个人真‘三八’。”

“三八”妇女节中妇女的年龄范围：

三八妇女节18岁以上的所有成年女性的节日。

《现代汉语规范字典》中"妇女"一词的含意,仅指"成年女子"并无其他特殊意指.已婚女子被称作"妇人".

也就是说成年女子只要是年满十八岁,就属于是"妇女"的范畴,并不是专指结了婚的女性!它是属于所有年满十八岁周岁以上女性的.

大陆人见台湾人喜用“三八”形容女性举止轻浮、做事鲁莽、疯疯癫癫，遂以为该词源于粤语或闽南话，实则不然。“三八”乃道地中原词汇。刘福根著《汉语詈词研究》，梳理“汉语骂詈小史”，内列“三八”条目，释为：“俗谓素性生硬、作事乖张，曰‘三八’。典出〔元〕元怀《拊掌录》：‘北部有妓女，美色而举止生梗，人谓之生张八。’寇忠愍(准)乞诗于(魏)野，野赠之诗云：‘君为北道生张八，我是西州熟魏三。莫怪尊前无笑语，半生半熟未相谙’。座客大发一噱。”魏野因排行第三，自称“魏三”。“三八”即简自“魏三”、“生张八”。另外，沈括《梦溪笔谈·艺文三》早载此事，唯“生梗”作“生硬”，“人谓”作“士人谓”，文字稍异，当为《拊掌录》所本。

宋代中原地区百姓大量移民闽、粤，遂将家乡俗语“三八”带到此地，最终越过海峡、传到台湾，成为台湾“省骂”。骂人也讲性别对等，台湾又用“半生头”专骂男性，意与“三八”相近，亦源于“半生半熟”之语。而在大陆，“生张熟魏”不载现代汉语辞典，成语词典尚存。随着两岸交往日深，“三八”方有返乡之旅。

魏野是宋初知名隐士，一生不曾出仕，《宋史》本传云其诗“有唐人风格，多警策句”。上述赠妓诗纯属打油，无意间给后世留下三个词语，堪称一桩趣事。

1910年在哥本哈根举行的社会主义国际会议上决定要确立一个妇女节日，作为对妇女运动所作出的杰出成就的褒奖。这个计划由来自17个国家的100多名妇女指定，其中包括最早在芬兰国会中取得选举权的三名妇女。但在那次会议上并没有确定一个准确的日期。

1911年，奥地利、丹麦、德国和瑞士将妇女节定为3月19日，超过一百万人在当天参加了集会。除了要求得到选举权和政府公职权，她们还要求得到平等的工作和就业培训机会，并且要求消除工作中的性别歧视。

不到一周，在3月25日纽约发生了悲剧，一场大火140多名女工丧失生命，她们大多是意大利和犹太移民。这个事件给了美国政府极大的压力，工作环境恶劣造成的灾难不容忽视，国际妇女节的制定摆上了台面。

在一次大战前夕的和平运动中，俄国妇女在1913年2月的最后一个星期天庆祝了她们的第一个节日。而在欧洲的其他地方，在随后的几年里，妇女们总是在3月8日前后来举行集会，表达她们团结起来抵抗战争的决心。

1917年，二百多万俄国士兵死在战争中，俄国妇女再次选择在2月的最后一个星期天为“面包与和平”举行罢工。不顾政府的反对，妇女们走上街头。四天后沙皇不得不退位，临时政府赋予妇女们选举权。这个历史性的星期天是罗马公历的2月23日，而在其他国家所使用的阳历中，这一天是3月8日。

总的来说，三八节是各国妇女为争取平等、公正、和平以及发展而进行斗争的过程中形成的。也正因为此，南非的国际妇女节的日子不同于世界各国，定在8月9日。1956年8月9日，数百名黑人妇女在比勒陀利亚举行示威游行，抗议当局推行种族隔离的“通行证法”。后来的新南非政府即将这一天定为妇女节，以纪念南非妇女在争取平等斗争中所作的贡献。

香港片中骂女人为“死三八”、“臭三八”之类，在这里“三八”只是“女人”的代名词，本身应该是中性词，所以骂人通常要加“死”、“臭”之类贬义词。至于大多都是骂大陆女，想来是因为大陆女在香港显得土气一些的缘故吧。
