农历腊月廿四或廿五日，雷州各地大搞清洁，俗称“打囤”或“扫囤”，家家户户进行室内大扫除，以便干干净净地迎接新年。送灶”后，从廿六日到廿八磨米做新年糕饼。雷州半岛是蔗糖之乡，年糕甜，饼米乙种类繁多，令远客惊奇的一尺余直径三、四寸厚的巨型年糕有：筐炊、团笼炊、笼傻，约八寸直径一寸厚的筐箕炊、缸盖炊、牛皮糕。米有：饺子饽、叶搭、菜包、田艾薇、红印、白米果、煎堆、寿桃、米捏制的禽类和各式棕子。
