她于1988开始参加竞技跳水训练。她在保定训练基地六岁时开始从事潜水运动。1992，她被选中为中国国家队跳水。

郭代表中国在2004届夏季奥运会，获得金牌的3米女子跳板随着吴敏霞在女子3米跳板最后赢得了她的第一个个人奥运金牌。她是继伏明霞之后中国国家女子跳水队的主要成员。目前她的目标是在北京2008奥运会上获得奖牌。

雅典奥运会后，郭获得了很大的声誉，并被麦当劳签约。后来她被国家队禁止从事过多的商业活动，但后来被召回。

我相信她在水立方会赢得第三枚甚至第四枚金牌。
