平时爸妈因为工作繁忙、我们因要上学而无法回南部看爷爷奶奶时，妈妈也会让我和弟弟打电话跟爷爷奶奶说说话。爷爷奶奶总会问问我们学校里的功课，叮咛我们要听话、要注意身体健康，言语之中总蕴含着无限的慈爱与关心，让我感受到无比的温暖。

我喜欢爷爷奶奶的慈祥和蔼，亲切随和；也喜欢爷爷奶奶的宽容大度，为他人着想。“家有二老，如有双宝！”我要常常抽空陪伴他们，学习他们的人生智慧，并与爷爷奶奶共享天伦亲情。

小时候，常听外婆讲自己的故事，只知道外婆的童年生活十分坎坷，充满了神秘的色彩。而在她的生命中，有一个人物起了至关重要的作用。他就是与外婆毫无血缘关系，年龄相差了十九岁的外婆的哥哥，即妈妈的舅舅。

新中国还未解放，外婆来到了这个世界。与众不同的是：外婆出生在苏州虎丘下。那时她的父母是***军官，一路随军，途经苏州时生下了外婆。后来，队伍经过江阴，外婆的母亲与父亲失散。当时，外婆嗷嗷待哺，她的母亲一手牵着一个三岁大的儿子，一手抱着刚出生不久的外婆。部队只在这儿呆一段时间，她必须随军继续前行。一路行军本已艰难，与丈夫的失散更使得外婆的母亲举步维艰。眼下，这两个孩子成了她最大的负担。

百般无奈之下，外婆被她的母亲忍痛托付给了江阴当地一个村庄上的一户贫农家里。据外婆所说，当时愿意收养她的这家有一个比她大不了几岁的瘸腿儿子，说就当童养媳养着吧。没想我那外婆由于没喝到奶水而体弱多病，难养得很。没几天那好心人家就害怕起来，急于把外婆送人。当时外婆已处于半昏迷状态，别人家岂肯随便收留？难道外婆要因此成为弃婴村里有一户人家，也算是村上条件较好的人家了，那家人的儿子知道后对自己的父母说：“养只狗都会看门，养个女娃”

于是，我的外婆终于有了安身立命的家，一个有哥哥、姐姐、爸爸、妈妈的家。外婆在这个家中快乐、健康地成长起来，直至恋爱结婚、生下我的妈妈。她的一生是坎坷而又幸运的。

听外婆讲到这里，我对外婆的这位恩重如山的哥哥充满了好奇与敬佩。他已八十四岁高龄，我称呼他为“外公”。外公是个老干部，写得一手好书法，年轻时当过书记，当年他还是澄江镇政府组织科长呢！

只可惜，在那期间爆发了文化大革命。红卫兵造反派开始造反，而作为文化人皆政府干部的外公自然也难逃此厄运。他遭到批斗，被认定为“走资派”，在那特殊的年代，遭受了令人无法想象的折磨。更羞辱人的是，他还被戴上高帽子，被拉去游街，甚至在脖子上挂大木牌，自己扇自己耳光骂自己“打倒沈根汝”“沈根汝是反革命”，外公还被骂作“顾学芝的狗头军师”。他一度被关进牛棚，限制行动，限制正常饮食，被人指骂为“牛鬼蛇神”。他整天整夜地被罚跪认错，膝盖跪痛了，就用老棉絮绑在膝盖上继续跪虽然外公遭遇了如此非人的待遇，但他从未放弃对生活的希望。

外婆也曾悄悄前去外公被关押的地方送饭，可是都有红卫兵拦着不让进。

终于，让外公受尽羞辱的文化大革命过去了，外公得以**。他被放了出来，重新回到家人身边，重新开始工作。作为一名老党员，他一直用自己的言行践行着作为一个党员的职责。

看着眼前已白发苍苍、面容慈祥的老人，谁能想到他曾经受过的那番苦。我的心中也不由得对这已八十四高龄的外公升起一股敬意，像外公这样乐观坚强、对生活对党始终充满希望的精神实在值得我们这些年轻人学习。

Today I had a good time. It was my grandpa’s birthday. Our family went back to his home to celebrate his birthday. My mother cooked many delicious food and we brought a big birthday cake. We got together to have a big family dinner. We gave grandpa some presents and said, "Happy birthday to you!"
