I have spent fifteen years in my life. So, this is my ninth year to study. By the way, my name is WengJingru. My father thought hard about my name. He consulted the dictionary two times to find how to name me. Of course, this name is very good and I like it very much.

Sometimes I think I am a little strange. Because I often think the world isn’t full of happiness. And I want to be different from others. I hate superficial people. But always I am very out-going and kind to others. I can’t say ‘no’ to others. So I don’t know how to refuse.

I can’t see I am a pretty girl, but I am not an ugly person, either. I am very general. I can’t say too much about my appearance.

In this term, I make a little progress in my study. In my life, I have my parents’ love, and many, many people’s love. I am happy. I achieved so much, and I also lost so much.   My star sign is Aquarius. It represents kindness and wisdom. But I don’t think I am such a clever person. Maybe I am modest. Aquarius has many friends. It also says that some people think I am strange because I hate to be like others. I try to do everything differently.

I like yellow the most. Yellow is the color of the sun, it can remind me of a warm, sunny day. Yellow is also the color of wisdom. And I like it because it is one of the colors that are vivid.

London and Tower Bridge

Not much is known about the earliest London Bridge although it’s location is thought to be near the present one. The second bridge a wooden one existing in Saxon times seems to have given rise to the nursery rhyme ‘London Bridge is falling down’ which it did in 1014. In 1176 the first stone bridge was constructed. Houses sprung up on both sides of the bridge and stood until it was pulled down in 1831, making way for a more elegant, classic structure. This bridge was replaced in 1967 as it could no longer cope with the amount of traffic. The present London Bridge is more 100 feet wide.

The London Bridge preceding the current one was bought by the McCulloch Oil Corporation of California, which reconstructed it at Lake Havasu City, in a corner of America’s Arizona Desert. Rumour has it that McCulloch’s thought they were buying the much more spectacular Tower Bridge.

The Construction of Tower Bridge began in 1885 and it was opened 9yrs later by Edward VII the then Prince of Wales, Amidst pomp and ceremony. It is the only bridge in London that can be raised to allow ships to pass. Since the Thames is no longer used much as a trade and shipping route, the complex lifting mechanism is only used 4 or 5 times a week. The Tower bridge is often mistaken for London Bridge which is dull in comparison.

奶奶说，她小时候家里有兄妹四五个孩子，孩子多呢，就表示没有粮食吃！她每天都要跟着哥哥姐姐一起出去，夏天捡稻谷，或是去她们那里的一个火车站，据说是抗战时期日本人修建的铁路站点，解放后，整顿为火车站，方便了交通运输！经常有停在哪里的铁皮火车又叫碳皮车（一般都是拉货或是拉煤的货运车），她们就会找拉煤的车厢，爬到车厢里去扫煤渣回家烧炭用。等到有客运的火车来时，就跑到车厢内卖点妈妈为她们煮的鸡蛋和玉米给旅客们吃！这个是很赶时间的，因为火车停下只是暂时休息补给，要么就是到这个站点必须停车上下乘客，只是这个时间短，有时候火车开动了还没下车，就被带到下一个站点了！一开始是害怕的，后来次数多了，或是有大孩子带着，也就不怕了，下一站再坐回来就好了！奶奶笑着说，那时候她们一群人还是挺开心的！后来，长大了就不去做了，留给弟弟妹妹们做这些事情，她们得到田里干农活了，这才累人呢！

爷爷说，他们小时候兄妹四个，他最大，是大哥！要照顾弟弟妹妹，所以，他很小的时候就要做饭给弟弟妹妹们吃！那时候是大生产队，爸爸妈妈要去地里干活才能拿到公分，拿到公分才能分到粮食，而且公分的多和少就意味着有多少粮食！爷爷说，他们家因为爸爸是“外来户”（外地搬迁户），没有什么叔叔伯伯在这边，妈妈相当于是孤儿也没什么亲戚朋友，所以，他们家劳动力最少，每次拿到的公分也是很少的，家里穷没有足够的粮食吃，经常是饥一顿饱一顿的。这在我看来不是太懂，为什么会吃不上饭呢？“现在根本就没有吃不上饭的时候，不仅如此，我们吃的往往还会倒掉好多呢！”我很疑惑的说道。爷爷说这就是旧时期和新时代的区别！那时候中国才解放没多久，各种技术和政策都不成熟，所以才会有差距！而且农村和城市不一样，差距很大很大！不像现在通讯媒体这样发达，电话通讯手机电脑人手多部了，就连小孩子都用手机和电脑，那时农村是很落后的！

听了爷爷和奶奶说的话，对于我来说，真的没法想象那时的生活是怎样的艰辛！我还听到爸爸妈妈说他们小时候生活条件才有所改善，但也好不到哪里去！爷爷奶奶那个时期条件不好，是真的很苦，比现在电视上看到的要苦多了。爷爷奶奶还告诉我，他们用钱最多就是几分几角的，几元的都很少！虽然那时也有百元大钞，但是一年到头很难得见到百元大钞，不像现在一百元都买不了什么东西了！虽然在数学书上有“元、角、分”这些单位，而我根本就没见过真正的“分”是什么样子的！爷爷和奶奶看到我们现在的生活态度，每次都语重心长地说我们太浪费了，一点苦都吃不了，不惜福！

对于生活在这个时代的我来说，爷爷奶奶说的这些事情，我很多时候就当做一个很惊奇的故事在听，没有去深刻的了解，并且以我现在的年纪和学识也没法去理解的太多。但是，我要把它写出来，告诉大家我们现在真的很幸福，我们的国家用爷爷奶奶的话说：“它，现在是真的很强大，进步而富强！”
