介绍元宵节风俗的英语作文

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. Children will hold self-made or bought lanterns to stroll with on the streets, extremely excited. "Guessing lantern riddles"is an essential part of the Festival.

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are right, they will get a little gift. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also called the "Yuanxiao Festival."Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan. It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar

pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning reunion. So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the family.

In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and beating drums while dancing will be staged. On the night, except for magnificent lanterns, fireworks form a

beautiful scene. Most families spare some fireworks from the Spring Festival and let them off in the Lantern Festival. Some local governments will even organize a fireworks party. “快坐下，喝喝我刚煮好的枣子粥，祝你们早睡早起早发财。”奶奶端出一锅枣子粥，用小碗盛给我们喝，“好喝吧？”“好喝，但太烫了。”我一边吹气一边说，奶奶摸摸我的头说：“那放着待会儿再喝。奶奶先去忙去了。多喝点啊！”奶奶系好围裙转身到厨房忙去了，我随后起身跟奶奶到了厨房说：“奶奶，我来帮你捡菜吧！”“好啊，你知道怎么挑芹菜吗？”奶奶怀疑地问我。“这还不简单，把叶子拔掉就行了。”“真聪明，乖孩子，那你来帮我把芹菜叶拔掉，扔那个垃圾桶里，奶奶就知道你是好孩子。奶奶去烧你最爱喝的鸡汤。”“好。”我先将芹菜放在桌子上，仔仔细细地一个一个的挑叶子拔掉，拔完之后，手臂酸麻没有知觉，两十只手指也冻得像萝卜一样，直到这时我才体会到平时父母长辈们的辛苦，就连挑菜都那么辛苦，何况他们还要做菜，每天下班后还要忙这些家务该有多辛苦啊！想起之前还嫌父母菜烧得太咸之类的，实在是太不懂事了。想到这儿，我的头不禁低了下来，心里十分惭愧，想着以后一定要好好报答父母长辈，尽可能的多做些力所能及的家务。

除夕夜，我们一家坐在饭桌前，面前摆着丰厚的晚餐，“来，干杯。”不知是谁起的头，大家一起拿起酒杯互相干杯，其乐融融。我站起来，举起杯子一一敬面前的长辈。我微笑的对爷爷奶奶说：“祝爷爷奶奶新年快乐、身体健康、万事如意！”“谢谢。”爷爷奶奶高兴地同我一起举杯，整顿饭吃得十分温馨。屋外，烟花璀璨；屋内，浓情一片……

与爷爷奶奶一起过年真高兴，真希望能年年与他们一起过大年。
