承德一带的春节实际上是从腊月开始的。腊月初八各寺院及家家户户均要熬粥，称腊八粥，一来纪念释加牟尼佛祖成道之日，二来喜庆五俗谷丰登，这天市场上开始上市年画、爆竹、肉类等。腊月二十三这一天，家家户户要扫庭院，这一天被称为过小年，一般家家都要摆酒宴，祭灶王爷。腊月二十五开始张贴春联，喜庆气氛越来越浓厚。除夕晚，全家老少吃团圆饭、包水饺，备冷拼，到凌晨12点时，鞭炮齐响迎接新的一年到来。大年初一互相拜年，共欢同乐，初二请姑爷、姑娘回门、初三会亲家，初四会朋友，初五春节高潮结束。正月十五上元节，也称元宵节，人们耍龙灯、舞秧歌、踩高跷、玩狮子、昼夜尽欢。正月十六以后，各行各业开始按部就班，恢复营业，春节至此结束。
