I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. And it also showed that Marguerite really loved Armand Duval for she could even change herself for him.

However, happiness didn’t last for long. When M. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. I think Dumass last few lines about Marguerite being the exception, not the rule were quite true, and I also agreed with his view that while her lifestyle could not be condoned, we as a society assume that all of these type of women are cold and heartless, while this may not always be the case. A person can make the wrong choices in life when they are young, and try to redeem themselves, but sometimes past situations prevent them from changing their lives, even though they desperately wish to do so. This applies to both men and women in many different types of circumstances: involvement in crime; drug or alcohol abuse; gambling; prostitution; financial problems; poor marriage choices; etc. And this is the fact, which exists in the whole society.

As far as the other characters in the book, I think Marguerite was right in saying that no one truly cared about her, but only wanted something from her, the only exceptions being Armand and Julie Duprat. Of course, the Comte de G. and Comte de N. wanted her body and appearance. The Duke needed to “wake up and smell the coffee” and realize that she could never replace his dead daughter. 我的爸爸是一名消防队员，我们一家三口在消防队里生活了长达6年之久，我小学之前的美好时光就是在那儿度过的。英俊、勇敢的消防员叔叔给了我很深的印象，他们也给了我许多感动。

消防员叔叔无论春夏秋冬，无论严寒酷暑，他们都不辞辛苦，坚持训练。他们出操时的飒爽军姿让我着迷；走平衡木的沉稳让我羡慕；登上消防车的迅速让我惊叹；每天必练的登高演习更让我钦佩不已。在消防队里的有一座既高又窄的碉楼，只见消防员叔叔身背沉重的梯子，冲向碉楼，“砰”的一声，梯子挂住了3楼的窗口，消防员叔叔就飞身上了三楼……一眨眼的功夫就在楼顶上招手了。我小时候总是呆呆地想：“他们是神仙吗？怎么都会飞呢？”爸爸告诉我：“这是叔叔苦练的成果。因为速度越快，才能从火魔中救出更多的人和财产呀！”现在想来，他们的精神可真令人感动呀！

在我的家里还珍藏着一张碟片，上面记录着勇敢的消防战士——小林叔叔两次冲入火海救人的故事：

那是一个年三十的晚上，寒风刺骨，滴水成冰。天气虽然寒冷，但节日的街头依然充满着喜气洋洋。临近0点的时候，外面的鞭炮声不绝于耳，五彩斑斓的烟花腾空而起，照亮了整个黑夜。辛苦了一年的消防员叔叔，也在这祥和的气氛里烧起了饺子。正当饺子要下锅的时候，一阵刺耳的报警铃声骤然响起。只见消防员叔叔们迅速跑到车库，穿上战斗服，跳上了消防车。不到一分钟，消防车鸣着警笛，在小林叔叔的带领下驶向了起火点。着火的原来是一家沙发店。当消防车赶到时，店门外的马路边上围满了人，滚滚浓烟从店门的缝里涌出来，一位中年妇女在撕心裂肺的喊着：“里面还有人哪！里面还有人哪！……”只见几名消防员叔叔们迅速铺好水袋，高压水枪里的水把烟堵了回去，另外两名叔叔冲上前去，用大钳子钳断门锁，门被推开了。随之而来的浓烟也把两名叔叔呛了出来。“救人哪，救人哪，求求你们快去救人哪！”那个中年妇女的哭喊声又传了过来。这时，只见一个黑影弯着腰冲进了火海，仔细一看，正是这次的指挥官小林叔叔。不一会儿，只见小林叔叔，拖着一个人从浓烟里走了出来：“快来人，帮忙呀，这里有一个人。”随着小林叔叔的召唤，几名战士也冲到门口，把那个人抬了出来。救护车也迅速赶到，对那位伤者进行了急救。咦？小林叔叔呢？正当我睁大眼睛搜索的时候，小林叔叔再次跃入我的眼帘，这次他手里抱着一个刚满周岁的宝宝，嘴里还不停的说着：“还活着还活着！”原来，小林叔叔又再一次不顾生命安危，冲入火海搜救，终于救出了伤者的孩子。火被控制住了，叔叔们带着疲惫收拾着救火工具，这时电视画面定格在了路边被水枪浇到的树枝上，那些水滴早已经结成了冰棱……

后来，爸爸告诉我，被救的两个人因为及时救出都度过了安全期。而小林叔叔因为吸入过多的浓烟咳嗽了好久。

哪里有灾难，哪里就有消防员战士的身影，不仅是火灾，还有洪灾、冰雪之灾、地震……消防战士用自己的生命，挽救了无数人民的生命。

“水火无情，人有情”。我眼中的消防战士，他们虽然都是平凡而普通的人，但他们都做着不平凡的事，因为他们，人民生活才这么平安幸福，我们的社会才有这么和谐，我们的祖国才会更加美好稳定。
