Dear Sir,

I am writing to apply for a British Council scholarship to study in Britain. I did my five years basic training in medicine at Shanghai University. After this I successfully completed a one-year postgraduate course in Ophthalmology at the Peoples General Hospital, where I am at present serving a two-year probation in the Eye Clinic.

As a result of the publication in 2003 of my article in New Scientist entitled "Soft and Rigid Contact Lenses ", which was based on a survey of 37 patients over 6 months, I made contact with Dr. Li Ming of the Capital Hospital and Dr. Ma Li of the University College Hospital. I have received their help and advice with my current research project, which is a two-year survey of the acceptance of various types of contact lenses in 200 patients.

Despite their help, I feel that I cannot make real progress in this field unless I can actually have day-to-day contact with these specialists. I would therefore like to continue my research at either the Capital Hospital or the UCH as soon as my probationary period here is completed, and I would like to study in Britain for two years.

I enclose a detailed curriculum vitae and an offprint of my article, together with two letters of recommendation from Dr. Li Ming and Dr. Ma Li.

新春来了，新春来了。新春的脚步加快了，我越来越盼望春节的来临。

盼望用红纸写春联，贴在自家门口。这可是件很光荣的事情。到时候，来我家拜年的人，都会举起大拇指称赞：“漂亮！”我的心就会像翻腾的浪花一样，一下子兴奋起来。我将选用词语优美的春联，以认真的态度来完成这项艰巨的任务。首先观察字帖，然后屏息凝视，一口气把整副对联写完，恭恭敬敬地把它贴在大门。

盼望可以领到压岁钱。我将把大部分的“工资”拿去买基金，好让我的钱翻倍，生财有道嘛。剩下的就塞进腰包里当零花钱，有空自己花钱去周边游玩，这是一件多惬意的事情啊！

盼望全家大团圆。届时，我就可以去探望好久未见的曾祖母，跟她聊些近来发生的有趣事情。让她更多的了解外面的世界有多精彩；我还可以和在乡下的兄弟姐妹们一起玩耍，互相学习。

盼望还可以去一趟科技馆欣赏积木，并且自己动手，创造心目中的车型；在“虎虎生威”科学庙会中增长更多的科技知识。

盼望去泡温泉，洗净2021年所有不开心的事情，迎接新的一年。

春节！你快点来吧！我盼望，盼望……

“羊年到!”不只是谁喊了一声，所有人都欢呼雀跃起来。瞧，东家的小妹在给爷爷奶奶拜年;西家的大娘穿上了火红、鲜艳的衣服，离家时间长的叔叔婶婶回到了家中;就连平时不爱打扮的爷爷也利利索索的打扮着自己。小朋友们呀，东一家、西一家都聚在了一起，男孩子们放了响亮亮的炮，平时看起来唯唯诺诺的女孩子也放起了礼花，这一切都告诉我们：过年啦!

12年前“哇"的一声，一个女孩诞生了，她就是我。今年是羊年，正好是我的本命年，这可把我给乐坏了，您想啊：一生中能有几个本命年啊?12年一次的本命年耶!我真是乐的合不拢嘴啦!哈哈，我的本命年我做主!

这不，在我机灵的脑袋里突然冒出一个鬼点子——新年闹翻天!

一大早，我就拿出平时妈妈最喜欢的衣服给自己穿上，哈哈，有点大，将就穿呗!然后，我偷偷摸摸溜进爸爸妈妈房间里，随手抓了个发夹就走!哈哈哈，爸爸妈妈还在睡懒觉，平时我起晚了你们都把我吵醒，看我今天怎么对付你们!下定了主意，我又偷摸溜进爸爸妈妈房间，我先把凉兮兮的小手放在爸爸脸上，没想到爸爸翻了个身。“还挺有技术!睡觉也这么警惕!”我心里暗想“不过嘛……你碰见我可就倒霉啦!看我怎么叫醒你们!

于是，我又把音响调到最大声，然后打开。“他们一定会被吵醒的!”我心想。于是，我又偷偷出去，等待着音响“爆炸”的那一刻，据我所知，我们家音响第一首歌曲就是江南style!哈哈!咦?等了有一会了，可怎么没有声音呀?于是，我进去一看：音响竟莫名其妙的被关上了!“怎么会这样呢?”我竟然一不小心把这句话说了出去。“新年快乐!”爸爸妈妈突然大叫到。“原来……”还没等我说完，一阵大笑从我家传出“哇哈……”

我爱我们的节日——春节。每年的正月初一就是我们大人们所说的大年初一。在这来临之前，家长们要买年货，包饺子，蒸馒头，炸丸子等。孩子们也会得到压岁钱。还有给已经失去的亲人表示对他们的思念。说一说心里话。大年初一的这一天就要家家户户贴春联。

饺子是我国春节里必吃的东西每年都看到爸爸妈妈爷爷奶奶们包饺子。今年我也想亲手包一次饺子。对于包饺子，我一概不知。爸爸把饺子陷，饺子皮拿到我面前，我束手无策，不知道

该如何下手。就在这时爸爸演示了一遍给我看，先把饺子皮放在手上，然后用勺子勺一点陷放在饺子皮中间，然后把手捏在两头往中间一捏再把中间的捏紧，呈月牙形状，上面是捏出来的“花边”，下面是呈拱形的半圆，这就是家喻户晓的饺子啦!我照着这个样子试了一次，结果由于陷放的太多皮不够露馅了!!“失败乃成功之母”我又试了一次，我有试了一次结果这次陷太少皮太大一放在桌子上就“趴”了下去，这是我觉得这包饺子不想想象中那么简单，正想放弃不干可有想想那些成功人士的成功道路上也不可能一帆风顺，我又鼓起勇气再包了一些，最终终于成功了!虽然样子不像爸爸包的那么好看，但比起刚开始，真是进步不少啊!!吃着这些我亲手包的饺子心里美滋滋的。

我爱我们的节日——春节，之所以喜欢这个节日，因为在这个节日来临之时，我们小孩子会收到许多压岁钱，有许多好吃的还有漂亮的衣服……更重要的是它让我学会了包饺子。

newest and perhaps largest building is the library.It stands in the middle of

our campus.It is seven storeys high.With its bright,spacious reading rooms and

all kinds of books,newspapers and magazines,it is the place where students like

to go.The next largest building is the Chemistry Department.The rooms in it are

filled with various apparatus.The buildings that the students and teachers live

in are the apartment houses.

Before long,new buildings will be added to our campus and some old ones

盼望已久的这一天终于到来了，今天我们回奶奶家过年了，我太高兴了。

到了晚上，我们一家人就等着看央视春节联欢晚会了，这也是一年就一次啊。真好看，每一个节目都那么精彩，等到快吃年夜饭的时候，奶奶和妈妈已经把饺子包好了，奶奶把热气腾腾的饺子，端上来了，真香啊。外面这爆竹声，此起彼伏的。爸爸一边放爆竹，我们一边吃饭真开心。

吃完年夜饭，我们开始“手痒痒”了，那批鞭炮就往外冲，我拿起打火机点燃引线，我以为过了很长时间才开始爆炸，可是才一两秒就震耳欲聋的声音就已经在我耳边响起了，一个比较小的在我背后几厘米的地方爆炸了，可我一点没伤着。

在爷爷家玩够了，我们就向回家的路上前进，到家后我们就开始看春节联欢晚会，动听的歌曲让人欢快喜庆，武术和杂技让人拍案叫绝，而小品让人捧腹大笑，抢红包的时候爸爸妈妈拿起手机不停地摇起来，据说全国人民都在要手机抢红包。

过端午节，一定少不了粽子!今天，姐姐就在教我包粽子呢!你瞧。

做粽子一定要有准备的。原来，姐姐已准备好浸泡了3个小时的糯米，同时也买好了粽叶，这样准备就让我大吃一惊了。

我把米放在叶子里，可米全撒在了桌上，我生气极了。姐姐对我说：“你要把叶子做成一个三角形的样子，然后再把米放进去啊!”

于是，我按照姐姐说的步骤作了一遍，在米上按了按，咦?旁边那个盘子中间放的是什么?原来是肉馅哦!我在糯米中间挖了一个小洞洞，把肉馅弄成圆状，塞入糯米中，让它也加入糯米的行列中。可怎么封好呢?我看了眼姐姐，就明白了一切。

我把翘起来的一片叶子按下来，并用绳子用力的扎紧。成功啦!我按照前面的方法，包了好多个。现在就要下锅了，先是把水烧开，然后把粽子放下去。

过了一会儿，粽子煮好了。大家四人坐在桌子旁，吃起了粽子。

我把绳子解开，正想把叶子摘掉，可我一碰，就被烫着了。姐姐看了，哈哈的笑了起来。我吹着吹着，把让热气吹走了。我再次小心翼翼的将叶子掀开，吃起了自己亲手做的香喷喷的粽子来——白白胖胖的糯米中间，包着一团鲜汁可口的肉馅，放入口中，不油不腻，又有嚼劲，感觉太好了!

端午节就这么过去了，嘴里吃着自己亲手包的粽子，心里想着我国唐代诗人杜甫写的诗：宫衣亦有名，端午被恩荣。细葛含风软，香罗叠雪轻。自天题处湿，当暑着来清。意内称长短，终身荷圣情。

这真是一个快乐的端午节!

Mid-autumn Festival is a popular and important lunar harvest festival

celebrated by Chinese people. The festival is held on the 15thday of the eighth

month in the Chinese calendar. There are some traditions in this holiday. For

example, people would have a big dinner with their families. After dinner, they

often enjoy the full moon which is round and bright. The other tradition of

mid-autumn festival is eating moon cake. Moon cake is the essential of that day,

which means reunion. As time goes by, there are various kinds of moon cakes, but

they are much more expensive than before. I like mid-autumn festival because my

families will get together and have a big dinner on that day.

我的故乡在河南焦作，新年对于我们现在的孩子来说，是一个惊天地泣鬼神的日子，是铭刻我们年龄变化的日子，是寒假里最轻松的日子。特别是我们家乡的新年

现在我的学习任务之重是可想而知的，整个寒假都处于紧张之中，但我们还是愉快地度过了。是没有了作业？还是时空错乱？

不，当然是家乡的新年！

在除夕那天，大家都会回到家里，与家人们团聚在一起，吃上一顿丰盛的年夜饭，说说离别时的奇闻乐事，津津有味地品尝美味佳肴，享受着团圆的乐趣。吃完年夜饭后，我们还有摆灶糖，是一种又粘嘴又粘牙的麦芽糖。祭灶供灶糖的原因，是为了粘住灶爷的嘴巴。传说灶爷是玉帝派往人间监督善恶之神，它有上通下达，联络天上人间感情，传递仙境与凡间，外面的烟花在夜空中缤纷绽放，聆听四处每一声喜庆的祝福，晚上八点钟我们一起坐在沙发上吃着麦芽糖，看新年联欢晚会（当然也会有几个小懒虫抵挡不住睡意……），到了十二点左右，也就是午夜零点时刻，我们又能听到一阵一阵激烈的爆竹和鞭炮声，来迎接新一年的到来！

大年初一的清晨，家家都会早早的起床，换上新衣，燃放鞭炮。吃一些饺子或汤圆（这是我们的习俗）接着，就是小朋友”工作“的时候了，晚辈向长辈拜年，长辈要给晚辈”压岁钱“。全家人吃过年饺子，随后开始到亲友家拜年。旧时拜年一般多由家长带领，先拜长辈近族、邻友，以后再去远处各家。各家为接等贺年客人，家里常备茶、瓜子、花生、糖果等。

正月十五元宵节又是我们新年期间的一个重要节日这一天，每家每户都会购买汤圆或自己做汤圆吃。吃汤圆表示我们大家团团圆圆、和和美美，但可忙了孩子，吃饱了晚饭迫不及待的跑到街上去，展示自己绚丽的烟花。大街小巷里，烟花声、鞭炮声、欢呼声响成一片，各式各样的烟花，不仅让我们看得眼花缭乱，当美丽的烟花打上天空，有的像流星，有的像大红花，有的像五彩花，点点滴滴，汇成花的海洋，它们像对我们微笑，招手，在向我们致谢，谢我们给予了他们生命让他们在天空中伸展自己的腰身，多么快乐，多么活泼！姹紫嫣红的礼炮，打响了天南地北，让人们目睹自己的风采，每家每户都会购买汤圆或自己做汤圆吃。吃汤圆表示我们大家团团圆圆、和和美美。

我们家乡的新年，没什么仪式，更多的却是欢歌笑语。俗话说：”百里不同风，千里不同俗。“说不定你们家乡的新年更是妙趣横生！

There are many festivals in China. Among them, I like the Spring Festival

most.Not only because it’s the biggest festival in the year, but also because

it’s a new beginning that brings hope to people and it’s time for family

gathering.Before the festival, people come home no matter where they

are.Usually, we have a big dinner on the New Year’s Eve. And then families sit

通常，我们会在除夕夜吃一顿丰盛的晚餐，之后家人团座一起，分享一年以来的生活以及新年计划。有的人则会玩游戏或者出去玩。大年初一，人们通常会早起，会与见到的人说吉祥话。孩子们会得到压岁钱。在接下来的几天里，人们会带上新年祝福互相串门拜年。总之，春节是一个欢聚一堂、供人享乐的日子。

Good morning everyone! Today I am very happy to make a speech here. Now, let me introduce myself. My name is xiaoxiao. I am from No.1Primary School. I live with my parents and we love each other deeply. I like my family, my school, my motherland. How lucky I live in such a happy family, such a strong country, such a modern time.

At school, I study Chinese, Math, English, Computer, and so on. I like all of them. I am a monitor, so I often help my teacher take care of my class. I think I am a good help. And I like Tuesday best because we have English, music, computer and P.E. on Tuesdays.

When I am at home, I often help my mother do some housework and my mother says I am a good help, too. My mother is a teacher. She works hard. She is kind. Many people like her. She often teaches me the way of learning well. (If you want to learn English well, here is some of my advice. At first, you must read many articles and know many words. If you meet up with some new words, you can look them up in the dictionary. You should know their meanings, how to read them and spell them. If you keep working hard, you will be successful. Then, you ought to speak English as much as possible. 可省) In any case，remember an old saying; Nothing is impossible in the world if you put your heart into it.

In my spare time, I have many hobbies. I like reading, playing the piano and dance. I am so good at dancing that I have got many awards.

照我们几个小孩子的老规矩，除夕之时，我们便溜到大街上。啊！这已经变成了灯的海洋，星的天空，花的世界。满街的霓虹灯，把街道装点的金光灿灿的。我们坐在街道的木椅上，把在春节前夕准备好的贺卡那了出来。我也收到了 伙伴们送我的贺卡，翻开一看，好多的祝福，好多的卡片，还有清脆的音乐声，我们继续在街道上玩耍，嬉戏。

正月十五，热热闹闹，欢欢喜喜，过个元宵。

我期待以久的元宵节来临了。我和伙伴们来到广场上看礼花，礼花开始放了。只听"轰”的一声，一架"航天飞机”生空了。瞬间又成了一朵绽放的鲜花，最后又变成一颗颗红色的星星慢慢落下来，美极了！这时一朵奇异的礼花出现了：它爆炸时是雪白的，马上又变成绿色，缓缓飘落下来，最后每个礼花都变成了"草莓，可有趣了。还有一场大喷泉“喷泉”一下喷出来，它由紫色，蓝色和绿色组成的飞出一只只可爱的“小蝴蝶”来，真好玩。

我们闹着，陶醉在这美好的时光里。

我们在这浓浓的喜庆之中，度过了快乐的春节，会永远停留在我甜美的记忆中。

每年的1月1日，就是新年来临的第一天，也就是元旦。而元旦过后不久，就是人人盼望的节日——除夕了。据说，“除夕”中的“除”字是“去；易；交替”的意思，除夕的意思是“月穷岁尽”。孤此期间的活动都围绕着除旧部新，消灾祈福为中心。我们老家的春节也十分热闹。有些人家前几天就要贴上门神，贴上对联，以此表示喜庆。不仅如此，老家还流行一种逢年便“祭祖”的说法。把贡品放在一张桌子上，两边放上一排杯子，倒上酒，在桌子前放两支蜡烛。这就是准备好了。同时，家里每个人都要在地上铺一块布，叩三个响头，并鞠三个躬才能离开，以表示对祖先的尊重。除夕到了，就更热闹了。一般在下午三点左右就要开始准备了。按规矩，要等到晚上六点左右，一家人聚齐以后，才能享受丰盛的晚餐，家长也一般会在晚饭时发红包。吃完晚饭，大家就会守在电视前看春节联欢晚会，并不时被有趣的节目逗得哈哈大笑。春节过后不久，又是小孩子们兴奋的时候了——元宵节。正月十五是一年中第一个月圆之夜，同时也是一元复始，大地春回的夜晚。这时，一般城市里比较热闹。为了庆祝新春的延续，人们喜欢成群结队去出门赏月，燃灯放焰，猜灯谜，吃元宵等等，其乐融融。同时，城市里还要点起彩灯万盏，以示庆祝及人们的美好祝福。这就我家乡的春节民风民俗，我爱我的故乡。

hobbies are very important to a person. without having any hobby, life wont be as colorful as it should be. i have a variety of hobbies, such as collecting stamps, playing musical instruments, reading, and doing sport activities.

when i am free, i will spend time on my hobbies. when i am in a blue mood, i will also do my hobbies to cheer myself up. hobbies can help us improve our moods. many hobbies requires devotion. for eample, when you play a musical instrument, you have to practice over and over in order to perform good music.

after a period if you still enjoy it, gradually it will become a hobby of yours. but, remember: a hobby is like gold under the ground; no hobby will come to you unless you dig it out yourself. if you can treat study as one of you hobbies, learning will be more enjoyable. i hope all of you can find your own hobbies and also have fun from them.

从我能记事的日子，春节的喜庆气氛就萦绕在心里头了。仍旧念念不忘，儿时，心中那份对春节的焦切啊! From the days when I can remember, the festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival lingers in my heart.I still miss it, when I was a child, the focus of the Spring Festival in my heart!

因为，在春节，总能穿上盼了一年的新衣服，能吃着平时吃不到的密糖，能肆无忌惮地和小伙伴在村头村尾来回追逐。总之，春节里的乐子到处可寻，从家里到户外，从河畔到篱墙，满是的。

家里头也常常因为春节的到来而忙活起来了。这时候大人们也会放下手中的农务，聚在一起帮着做过年的准备。那时，我清楚地记着一张张火红的窗花儿，窗户上，灰墙上，木门上，一簇簇地，相拥着绽放，美极了。这些窗花儿是奶奶的巧手作。

平时，只需几叠红纸和一把剪子，便能呈现出各不相同的妙处来，我也常常地帮着掺和，虽只是剪出一个大概的模样来，也能把自己逗得合不扰嘴，而奶奶却总是笑着先赞不绝口，说是小小年纪，便心灵手巧。我自是不懂的了，然而却也知道是好话，因此，便会把这小小的窗花儿同那洋洋自得的心情一起收藏起来……

馋嘴是自小的毛病了，其实也怨不得我，对我们来说过年最盼的是吃上团子，又奈那团子实在美味，有时狼吞虎咽下几个，竟不知那滋味如何。于是，大人们便会开我的玩笑，说是别吃多了，小心把肚子撑破。我自然怕了，强忍着唾津的泛滥，却硬是不肯伸手去拿就怕团子多了从我的肚子里咕噜咕噜滚出来，怪吓人的。

团子固然美味，可在我，更多的趣味却在做米团子，为此，家里要在几天前准备好苇叶，等到当天，便泡在热水里，飘出一股沁香，我常蹲在盆边，想像是那苇叶如小船一起一伏，是颇有趣的。大人们这时会把白面倒在匾里加些水，揉出些面团，捏成小碗状，然后夹一筷子满满的馅料放在里面，之后封口，一个团子便大功告成了。

这时侯，我站在一边，觉得颇有意思的这总会诱起我的好奇心，我总会嚷嚷着向大人们要些面团，这个时候，他们自是拗不过我的。我于是像得了宝似的在一旁自娱自乐起来，不是帮着包团子，而是胡乱捏些形状再作一番想像，竟也衍出生不少的趣味和笑话。常常会忘了洗手便去擦脸结果自是一道白，两道白的大花猫了。蒸团子则更有趣，那时是放在灶上蒸疑似快活的神仙，飘飘欲仙的了，大人们在外头，也是带着乐意呵斥几声，便权不当作什么无礼的事了。等米团子出了笼，自又是我欢欣的时候了。

夜晚，看着满天缤纷的烟火，夜幕也被晕染得色彩斑斓，地上跑着明亮的兔子灯，响着欢快的炮仗声，人们吃着喷香的团子，笑着乐着，彻夜无眠。

I like to hear music, music helps me get out of annoyance. Before I go to

bed, I always need to listen to soft music, so that I can sleep soon. When I am

in bad mood, I will listen to hard music, I will rock my head and then sing with

the song. Listening to music is good way to relax myself, I plan to buy a guitar

and learn music.
