2.贴春联

中国人几千年来总把过年当作件大事，过年之前要做很多准备，要买很多东西，吃的、用的、穿的、戴的、耍的、供的、干的、鲜的、生的、熟的，统之名曰“年货”。腊八一过，扬州一带到处就有了准备过新年的气象了。

年前

扬州有句俗话叫“有钱没钱，干干净净过年”，可见扬州人迎接新年，并不在于多么富有，第一件事是要洗衣扫尘，清洁卫生。扬州人家新年前的清洁卫生多数在腊月十七、十八前后进行，所以民众中有“十七十八，越扫越发”的谚语。每家每户都有炉灶，在民间信仰中，有灶就有灶神，人们称这尊神为“司命菩萨”或“灶君司命”，传说他是玉皇大帝封的“九天东厨司命灶王府君”，负责管理各家的灶火，被作为一家的保护神而受到崇拜。送灶，民间俗称为“过小年”，多在黄昏入夜之时举行，一家人先到灶房，摆上桌子，向设在灶壁神龛中的灶王爷敬香，并供上糖瓜、糯米饭等食物，再供上竹篾扎成的纸马和喂牲口的草料，用糖瓜供奉灶王爷，是让他老人家甜甜嘴，这种灶糖是一种麦芽糖，粘性很大，因被拉成扁圆型，所以叫做“糖瓜”。冬天把它放在屋外，因为天气严寒，糖瓜凝固得坚实而里边又有些微小的气泡，吃起来脆甜香酥，别有风味，而糯米饭里则掺上松子、花生、栗子等干果，象征着聚宝盆或者摇钱树，这么香甜的糯米饭送灶时是吃不到的，要放到正月初七才能吃，寓意着不瞎眼睛。于是一家人围着灶王爷祷告：今年又到二十三，敬送灶君上西天。有壮马，有草料，一路顺风平安到。供的糖瓜甜又甜，请对玉皇进好言。这样送灶的习俗，在扬州农村仍有百分之九十的家庭还保持着，而在城市，由于厨房用具的现代化，这种习俗已被渐渐淡忘。
