相传过年有一个传说：从前，有一个叫“年”的怪兽，它心狠手辣，等到冬天的晚上，地上积满了雪，羊群、牛群都睡了的时候，“年”这个怪兽就悄悄来到它们中间……

早上人们来放牛羊，发现死了非常多，只剩下一根根骨头，人们都非常想知道是谁吃了牛羊。一天晚上，人们提着灯笼等在羊圈旁，只见一个怪物出现了，它指甲长长的尖尖的，向前举起，脚大大的。更定人惊讶的是它还会飞。两只眼睛像星星一样一闪一闪的。

人们看到了互相讨论：怪兽最怕什么？经过不断的观察，发现它最怕红纸、鞭炮还有红灯笼。

第二天晚上，人们在家里的门上贴上红纸、挂好灯笼，还在门前挂好鞭炮。等年兽来了到时候果然被吓跑了。

从此，人们过新年都要贴上红红的对联，挂上灯笼，还要打鞭炮！人们吃饺子、汤圆，开心极了！更让小朋友高兴的是还能收到一个个红包，装满了压岁钱！

过年真热闹，喜气洋洋的，并且我们又大了一岁！
