这本书的作者是黑柳切子，讲的是在日本东京，主人公黑柳切子小豆豆上一年级的时候就被退学了。小豆豆的妈妈就带着她来到了一所由小林宗作老师创办的巴学园，巴学园的教室都是电车，小豆豆非常喜欢电车，所以一下子就被巴学园吸引住了。她在这里快乐的学习，在这里认识了许多好朋友，和他们一起开心，一起伤心。可是就在小豆豆上二年级下册时，战争来临，他们被迫离开东京，离开巴学园，巴学园也被火烧成了一片灰烬。
