Oliver Twist one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century.

The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London.

The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist an orphan who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain such as hunger thirst beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief as was written in all the best stories the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them or Rose read to him and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty.

How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens—he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I dont think goodness is omnipotent yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.

For me the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary as the famous saying goes The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.

To my disappointment nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on peoples honesty and kindness thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing theirkindness they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.

Francis Bacon said in his essay Goodness of all virtues and dignities of the mind is the greatest being the character of the Deity and without it man is a busy mischievous wretched thing no better than a kind of vermin.

Let me just start by saying that I had been put off reading Thomas Hardye by Dickens. Having really struggled with Dickens and resorted to audio I had wrongly assumed that all 19C liturature was the same. How wrong I could be. From the first paragraph where the opening character farmer Gabriel Oak is desribed smiling, ‘the corners of his mouth spread till they were an unimportant distance from his ears‘ I fell in love with Hardy‘s narrative. His ability to use words that lift the description off the page and into the reader‘s imagination are not just outstanding but incredibly enjoyable.

I went into this book blindly, knowing little about the plot that lay ahead or even the genre. It has been described by some as romantic fiction. But I think this is too simplistic a title and and maybe slightly off-putting to some. Hardye steps into Greek Tragedy when the unwitting and churlish actions of our young protagonist, Bathsheba Everdene, result in a love tryst between three suitors with tragic consequenses.

The book is essentially a journey for Bathsheba into womanhood not unlike the journey that Scarlett O‘Hara makes in Gone with the Wind who also has to overcome great tragedy in order to realise her own strength. Unlike this heroin, however, Bathsheba is more the instrument of chaos and indecion and part of her journey is that she accepts what she has caused and tries to make it right.

Hardye avoids making this into moral stricture but deviates from the Greek Tragedy model by giving us a happy ending not atypical of 19C serialised fiction.

Quite often an author‘s voice creeps into their writing and the reader becomes aware that they are not in fact walking the hills and dales of fictional Wessex but are at the pen nib of a writ

His grandmother was also a kind woman. She brought up Alexis and gave courage and kindness to Alexis. But unfortunately, his husband always hit her and she died because of illness at last.

His grandfather was a stingy and fierce man. He always maltreats his wife and Alexis. He just loved his money.

The protagonist of this novel was a boy named Alexis. His father died when he was only 3 years old. He followed his mother and came to her motherhome. His grandfather is a violent man. His two uncles are also selfish. His grandfather often hit his wife and his grandson. Little Alexis was maltreated in the family and grew up gradually. However, his grandmother is a kind woman. She is the warm sun of Alexis, she tried her best to protect Alexis. His two uncles wants to get his fathermoney and always fight with their father. The old couple were very disappointed with their son. Finally, the old man decided to separate with them. He sold the old house and bought another home in the city. If we with compare our childhood with Gorkys, we would think his childhood is too pathetic.

I want to express my feeling to Alexis. He was young and he did not receive good education. He lived with the fights and quarrels of his families. He was unlucky but he still knew how to be a good person. We are so lucky to live in a warm family. But most of us are not satisfied with it and we want more. We do not know how to cherish the things we have. We often ask for everything from our parents and depend them too much. If someone bully us outside, our parents will encourage us, but for Alexis, nobody will help him and his grandfather even maltreats him. What a poor boy he is. Now, we should realize that we should depend on ourselves and cherish our families. Facing the difficulties by ourselves and try to be confident to life. His wife born three children for him but he did not love her at all. He just love his money. His character represented many people at that time. And the author wanted to satirize these people by this character. He was an important character in this novel and an important person for Alexis. But he did not be responsible for Alexis. Alexis was so unlucky to have such a bad grandfather. And his grandmother was so unlucky to have such a violent husband.

The most kind and pitiful person was Alexisgrandmother. She was the most attractive woman in the literal history of Russia. She did not live a happy day in her whole life. She was so industrious and simple, maybe she just want a simple life. She just want her children could be happy and her husband could love her even did not maltreat her. But her simple dream did not come true. It was unfair for such a kind woman. She lived an unhappy life everyday, but she still love her grandson. She represented these industrious woman at that time. She gave her love to Alexis and hold the broken family. She was so tried everyday with the housework and the maltreatment. I sympathize her very much. 这本书虽然很厚，但是我却很有耐心，每一篇小故事都细细欣赏，每一个小情节都细细品味最后，我用了一下午的时间，终于把它读完了慢慢放下书，我有些疲惫地躺在床上，闭上眼，眼前仿佛出现了鲁滨孙和星期五一起在岛上即使孤独也很充实的生活脑海中那些鲁滨孙做过的事，那个勇敢机智，却有些傻傻的星期五，都像放幻灯片一样，从眼前闪过一个又一个的画面确实，这本书写的真的很好，让人忍不住开始遐想书中描写的情景了。

书，读完了，感受，确实是有的这本书中，让我感触最深的，便是勇敢的鲁滨孙用智慧在岛上生存的那种精神，那种敢于同恶劣环境做斗争的精神，让我深深为之感动他流落到荒岛，在克服了最初的悲观绝望情绪后，能够把悲伤化做动力，立即投入到了征服大自然，征服一切苦难的斗争之中，他靠着自己的双手与智慧，能够利用仅有的一点工具，为自己的生存创造条件，为自己能继续活下去把握了机会，他的这种能与一切困难最斗争的精神，才是现在人们最缺少并且最需要的对于我来说，确实是这样。

I believe that one of the factors that makes a piece of literature or even a movie a masterpiece is how well the reader can relate to the story. This is definitely a book everyone can relate to.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a literary masterpieces, written in 1876 by the famous author Mark Twain. Tom Sawyer is a mischievous young boy who lives in the small town on the Mississippi River called St. Petersburg. The story line is simple, the book reads like a biography or a memoir of a summer in Tom Sawyers life.

Tom Sawyer seems to be the precursor of and the template for misfit kids such as Dennis the Menace, Malcolm in the Middle, and Calvin and Hobbs. What makes this story great is that Tom Sawyer represents everything that is great about childhood. The book is filled with Toms adventures playing pirates and war with his friend Joe Harper. Tom has a trusted friend, Huck Finn, who few of the adults approve of. The book is filled with ideas of how the world works, such as how pirates and robbers work, that are so innocent, they could only come from a child. It is a story filled with action, adventure, ingenious ideas, love, and schoolyard politics. The whole story is seemingly a complication of what people did or wish they did during their childhood.

The book is a little difficult to read at first. Personally, it takes me a little while to get used to the 19th century dialect in the book. Other than referring to persons of African decent in derogatory terms (which Im sure uses terms even young children already know)， the book would be an enjoyable read for people of all ages. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to feel young again, if just for a few hundred pages.

我在看见她舅母对待她时恶毒的言语以及她舅母三个儿女的行为，看到简被他们几人欺负，我的眼睛不由得一酸，心也有些疼痛。之后又再次扪心自问：“如果我是简我能坚持么?我能像简那样长大后你不去愤世嫉俗么?”我相信我不会。因为从小我的环境太好了。从小便是在爸爸妈妈爷爷奶奶的宝贝下长大。从没有受过苦，受过累。之后，在一位善意的女仆的帮助下，她去了那所学校。在那所条件艰苦的学校里，简刻苦的学习，她也学得很快。没有抱怨过，只有感觉有些许的宽慰，不知是不是因为在她舅母家的痛苦日子让她感觉现在的生活反而很好。

I don’t remember the exact year I first read The Little Prince . Though the golden snake in the book plays a cameo role , I never forget the scene that he flashed kissed gently on the little prince’s ankle. It made me be afraid to reread this book.

Later, I listened a Michael Wong’s song named Fairy-tale Story, the prince in his song is different from the prince in The Little Prince, the prince in the song is the same as Andersen’s tales’ princes, they all have happy endings.

However, I think The Little Prince is a sad story. There is a saying: There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand peoples eyes. Now, let me talk about my reading feeling. This simple story flies over every corner of the world: a pilot (the narrator) who had an accident with his plane and crashed in the Desert of Sahara then he met the little prince from the planet B-612, and the narrator listened little prince’s travel experience of seven planets. On the seven planets, he met a variety of persons. They are the king, the conceited man, the businessman, the tippler, the lamplighter, the geographer and so on.

The Little Prince is a story belongs to adults who have childlike innocence.because children don’t understand the little prince’s deep sadness.This is not so much a fairy tale, as it is a tragedy. This story tells the grow-ups’ world is full of empty，lost and loneliness with kids’ perspective. Among the story, the alcoholic is impressive. He was surrounded by a pile of beer bottles when the little prince saw him, and prince asked him why he is drinking, but he answered he want to forget his shame of drinking. This short planet visit plunged little prince into deep puzzled. He think the grow-ups are certainly very, very odd. In kids eyes, beautiful things must look with heart. But the adults pay more attention on things’ appearance that is just a shell and they don’t believe the eyes are blind and the heart is true.

Through this story, it also made me understand what’s the love---loves more mineral, more dense, more bitter and more weighty than the earths profoundest matter.

When I first read The Little Prince, I can’t understand the mean of love and never to think why should the little prince leave alone since he love his rose so deeply. For years, I reread the story and think about it. The simple true was first love. The little prince didn’t know how to love and It was difficult to make him understand the rose’s heart, so it may lead to misunderstanding and hurts from time to time. He leaved his planet because he can not accept the rose and himself.

This is why the little prince don’t know he have to leave : at that time, he had no idea he was in it. The little prince don’t understand the meaning of tame until he met the fox later. Then he produced the endless yearning for the roses and realized his responsibility.

"Do you want to be domesticated?" For me, this is a profound question. In the book, the little prince met a fox and invited the fox to play with him, but he was refused. The fox told him that he was not tamed. “what does that mean--tame?” little prince asked. The fox answered:” it means to establish ties: to me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me , you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.”

Gradually the little prince was beginning to understand, because he remembered his rose and he thought his rose had tamed him. So he chose to go back to his planet in the end. But to the fox, the little prince’s farewell will make her sad, but the hurts because of love, she should learn to accept it gradually. I believe there are full of hurts within serious and true love.

As long as the little prince flied to different planets and met a variety of persons can he understand himself and his rose. So I think traveling is a good way to experience life.
