I have got a lot of interesting scientific knowledge from the books of National Geographic Reading Expeditions, some of which are about life, physics. I really can’t help losing myself in the colorful pictures and clear words in the books. After reading the books, I have been considering a question: What if we lived without science? Great changes have taken place in the world with the help of science. In the past, life was nasty, brutish and short. It is hard to imagine how our forefathers could do without so many conveniences that modern science brings about. Back then, only a small group of people enjoyed the very few comforts. But the majority of people didn’t even have sufficient food, let along their privilege to be educated. Anyway, it is science that changes the world and makes people’s life better and better, although it also leads to some bad aspects at the same time.

From the discovery of the gravity to the first step on the moon, we human beings have experienced a long process of developing science. And now, this process is still continuing much faster. New organisms are already being engineered, and new genetically modified crops promise benefits from higher yields and less use of harmful chemicals and so on. A lot of examples are showing this point. In the future, changes are likely to be even much greater as science reaches out to shape life itself. Maybe one day, the possibility that life existed on Mars billions of years ago will be potentially one of the greatest discoveries of our time. It is the force of the competition, we human beings’ inquiring mind and initiative that bring about the non-stopped development of science. Therefore, it is difficult and impossible to prevent science from changing the world and our life as well.

At present, we are in two minds about science. On the one hand, we are enjoying the sweet life as a result of the evelopment of science, and expect it to continue. And we are showing our interests into some scientific expeditions, such as the astronomy, the alien civilization, etc. On the other hand, we are distrustful of it, due to the lack of understanding of science. Some people thus far are still very superstitious, and they would even believe in superstitions rather than believe in science.

Stephen Hawking, one of the most remarkable scientists in the world, once said, “In a democratic society, the public needs to have a basic understanding of the science, so that it can make informed decisions and not leave them in the hands of experts.” This has reminded me of Professor Alan G. MacDiarmid from America, the person who got the Nobel Prize for chemistry in the year of XX. In his lecture at Peking University this year, he put forward that science is people. He also expounded the importance of the basic science for the public. Evidently, every one of us does need science, or we can’t live without it.

Now that everyone needs science, why not take advantage of some means to give the public the right basic scientific knowledge? So when they face the problems such as acid rain, the greenhouse effect, nuclear weapons, environment destruction and some other problems, they can also make informed decisions on these subjects, just as what Hawking said. One aspect relies on what is taught in schools. But science is often taught in an uninteresting way and most students just learn it by rote to pass examinations. However, the final goal of learning science is not to pass examinations or to get a higher score; instead, we should try to make full use of it to change our world and life. While learning, we should try to ask more questions and we should have the courage of suspecting the knowledge in the books, as some of the scientific conclusions are likely to be corrected in the future. Who knows. So not only must we change our attitude towards science, but also the way of teaching and learning science.

"Notre Dame de Paris" is the famous 19th century French writer Victor Hugos masterpiece. 15th century novel about the bizarre life of Paris, compared with the way the author depicts a group of distinctive character of a lively, very artistic appeal of the characters to disputes between the complicated contradictions and tragic fate of a rich complex analysis of the human world.

First of all the images is a group of Gypsy girl Esmeralda and Qiaozhong more people Kaxi Mo. 16-year-old Esmeralda beauty, pure good and Nenggeshanwu, but in society at that time, such as a flower of life is extremely conservative in the decadent forces of destruction of the church under a pity to Yunmie. 20-year-old Ka Ximo more appearance Qichou very serious disability so that he came to the world it was the first family, and then the whole community is abandoned. But the ugly appearance, he has a beautiful purity of the soul, and his innocence doped slightest impurity love guarding Esmeralda, trying to make her away from all harm. Can be a powerful social prejudice and the forces of evil before, the power of the individual is insignificant, the intrepid Kaxi Mo, the last and only choice Xunqing outcome of this tragedy. The two entangled with the main character has a tragic background, appearance on the great contrast can not hide their total innocence of the kind-hearted nature, such perfection in their nature to the United States and the shining, the other characters in the novel are exposed despicable Nature.

Notre Dame also Frola Fu Zhujiao in love with the beautiful Esmeralda, but he and Kaxi Mo has a number of poles apart from love, Fu Luoluo the sacred cloak of religious halo, Daomaoanran, because of heart Conflict can not become distorted until the soul, full of evil to destroy the ultimate destruction of the Esmeralda, also destroying their own. The other two characteristics figures, only one is a gorgeous appearance, but a pack of rotten heart of the Fu Bisi Rang captain - a rough, shallow, the Playboy, he played extremely bad means of a Chiqing love Ismaila Of the other person is Georgia Lang ancient poet Lapo Wolfowitz, a Gouqietousheng the cracks in the guy, in order to survive can be abandoned love and abandon the dignity and abandon the responsibility of the authors of these two figures about the same despicable and full of sarcasm.

This novel not only from the humanitarian community to expose the dark at the time of the essence, tell us a lot more profound truth of life: First of all, a persons appearance does not decide everything. Heart than appearance before playing a more important role. People can not chase looks over the United States, the soul of our life is pure and sincere need to have. Similarly, a person must also measure the intrinsic quality of his departure, not Yimaoquren. Because of the ugly appearance, it may be hidden in a fiery pure soul; handsome beautiful face, may also buried the Wochuo disgraceful, despicable distortion of peoples minds. This is, in the novel who has been alive to do the example. Their results, but also to our warning. Secondly, people living in the world, there must be a positive life ideals, goals, not yielding to Langdang abandoned, at any time, should have human dignity, to clear its mandate. Can not indulge themselves were the responsibility of the dirty soul. Finally, we learn to cherish the feelings between people: family, friendship, love…… respect for everyone around, and so do not let these wonderful life after the passing away of the bright spots regret. These, in the story who are showing us a thought-provoking negative tragic consequences.

Finally, Hugo on the scene Xiabi qualities momentum, the figures describing the delicate place, sophisticated analogy, the best description of the details of the capture, gave novel grace, and the other people reading and cheered.

Love seems to be the perpetual theme all over the world. But actually what is love? For most girls in 20s, love may mean everything to them. They seek for love bravely no matter what difficulties they may face. In their eyes, love is pure or even holy. However, those are just an ideal situation, n real life; people tend to find a balance between love and property.

Pride and prejudice is Austin’s great work. Through the discussion of the different marriages and love, the writer demonstrates her concept about love and marriage: love and marriage is closely associated with property and society, however, love and marriage can not only be decided by the property and social status. An ideal marriage should be based on mutual affection, respect and the same interest. She rejects the marriage based only on wealth.

Different people have different ideas upon marriage. By the description and discussion of the four marriages in the novel, we can see that Austen fully expresses her views on love and marriage. Only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love, but also by satirizing the marriage founded on the basis of origin and desire.

The marriage based on social position and money can’t bring happiness in life. Aimless marriage and love are unpractical.

Everything goes wrong for poor couples. Marriage based on wealth is not a fault. At least, it can offer us a better condition of life. Property is not everything in the life but without it, we can do nothing. This is called reality. But if you only married for wealth, you sell your liberty. The rest of your life might be miserable, and your marriage will filled with endless bitterness.

This book describes the lifelike characters. Have a kind pure old nannies peggotty, a quiet clever Alice, seemingly serious yet has a bodhisattva heart s wave, there are vicious brutality, treacherous moder stone, sister and brother and sinister and spectrum...

Before David Copperfield was born, his father died. Mother in the assembly at the age of seven remarried. Davids stepfather is a fierce greedy guy, sister is a wrong person. They abused David, and David suffering and death, the mother of Davids stepfather force greatly when child labor, David lucky enough to escape, go to a good aunt. Aunt wave sent him to a good school, accept education. He exert themselves in the predicament, hard work, with the nature of his kind, helpful, not only in career success, also obtained the success in life.

After reading the book touched me the most is the hero David his face life after suffering no escape. Because he knew that escape is a tasteless struggles.

His strong inspired me no matter how many difficulties should be the front of the strong, think method to solve. I used to have this experience: "obstacle", encountered in the learning circumstances as soon as he was the first idea is to consult teachers and classmates, and furthermore, is to give up. Never thought your hands and your mind to solve the problem, never thought that success is the real success.

The book touched me deeply, I like David strong and optimistic in the future. Hope the spirit of David Copperfield in readers hearts forever.

After reading "the ugly duckling" this article, I know the "cant judge a book by its cover," cant laugh at others.

Although some people childhood long ugly, but her good heart, wisdom, and can grow up to be a beautiful "white swan". Some people childhood long quite beautiful, like a princess, but her heart malice, love to laugh at other people, wait until a day, she will be a friend also have no, the longer the ugly, childhood "white swan" will also become "the ugly duckling".

The appearance of beauty and ugliness is only a small part of life.

I think that although this article of the ugly duckling no faith, but it is still very strong, it knows that long very ugly, it know friends dont like it, but it does not want to: "since I long that ugly, since the friends all dont like me, I live in the world still have what use!" If I were in the article the ugly duckling, those little duck, the dog and the cat to laugh at me, I will say unto them ": although I am ugly, but Im good heart, a strong, there will always be those who like me."

We want to XiangWenZhang backwater of learning, no matter what others say, you have to be strong, dont give up, we also a reason to know a mans tenth lies not in the physical appearance, beautiful truth in having a pure mind."

The author pays homage to Hans Christian Andersens compassionate tale with this faithful adaptation. Kids can relate to the ducklings dilemma; part of the growing-up process is pulling away from those around you and developing a strong sense of self. Children have also witnessed or experienced the teasing that is part and parcel of childhood.

This ageless story speaks across generations with its reaffirming message. In this age of instant gratification, Andersens tale reminds readers that some things are worth waiting for and that a pleasure deferred (whether by choice or necessity) is often the sweetest one of all.

Pinkneys descriptive passages resonate with the splendor of natures beauty. The glowing watercolors, filled with intricate details, make each blade of grass visible, and the delicately drawn, nearly transparent mosquitoes are as ethereal as they are in life. The subtle details incorporated into the scenes--a frog catching a passing fly at the pond and a tiny mouse perched by a crate in the old womans cottage--make children take another look.

One day he heard a sound of whirring wings, and up in the air he saw a flock of birds flying high. They were as bright as the snow that had fallen during the night, and their long necks were stretched southward. Oh, if only he could go with them! But what sort of companion could he be to those beautiful beings?

I am too ugly even for a dog to eat, the duckling thought. Jerry Pinkneys poignant text and rich artwork convey the timeless appeal of this tale of hardship and redemption. Anyone who has suffered the sting of ostracism can sympathize with the ugly ducklings plight and will relish the uplifting conclusion.

"Father and son" is a humorous cartoon. I have read the book three times.

When I first read the book, my mother heard the laughter coming from the study room. Indeed, the book is very interesting, and father and son often make jokes. For example, "sunset map": his father is a bald. One day, father read a newspaper on the sofa. The son called his companion, and showed him half the bald head of his sofa as a sunset, drawing on the sofa, and adding a picture frame. The father suddenly turned, and the setting sun had eyebrows, eyes, whiskers, ears. Father humor, simple, kind and playful, son smart, naive, cute and naughty, these two characters are very popular with everyone.

The second time I read this book, I felt the deep affection between father and son. One of the comic stories goes like this: the father and his son go to the seaside for a holiday. The son found a lot of pebbles on the beach and threw stones into the sea until he could not find any stones. Father saw, in the evening, pushing the car, over and over to the seaside to transport stones. The second day, the son found a pile of stones piled on the beach, very happy. My father was pleased to see it. I carefully observed fifth cartoons, found his father for his son to transport a pebble, sweat a lot. My father did everything for his son, and his son loved his father. He also made me cry.

When I read the book third times, I went abroad to combine the preface to know that E O Plauen created the father and son in the dark age when the Nazi fascist ruled germany. This warm, touching the cartoons was in the years of turmoil of creation, he is really a positive and optimistic person, is a person who is very loving son. He is a good painter concerned. He did not like some people in order to save life and property and surrender to the Nazis, he boldly created anti Nazi cartoons. But such a master of humour was mercilessly killed by the evil fascist. I think, while we praise the father and the son, we should praise their Creator, egypt. Austria. Rauen.

I read three times "father and son", and every time there was a new discovery. I hope I read every good book.

I have never been to Troy, but David Maule made me feel as if I were standing on the high wall of Troy, watching the fierce war. Thanks to this British author, who adapted the famous Homer’s poem into a lively story, I found it easier to understand this story. Though the story happened over 3000 years ago in a remote place, I was deeply fascinated by it. The mysterious plot is one of the reasons why I loved The Story of Troy so much, yet I am more interested in the human heroes of the war.

Hector was the eldest son of king of Troy, Priam. He was not only a real hero of Trojan, but was regarded the highest moral hero in Greek classic by later historians. The war started because of the mischief of his brother, Paris, whom he didn’t appreciate. However, since Hector was the commander of the Trojan army, he was obliged to fight with all force. It was really a tragedy that such a valiant man died in the duel with another great warrior, Achilles.

It is natural to see death in a war. As a famous Chinese parable says, “A life can be as slight as a piece of feather, or as weighty as Mount Tai.” Sometimes, one’s glory walks hand in hand with one’s doom. Achilles was such a typical person. His personal charm made The Story of Troy more attractive. He was so crucial because his every appearance in a war encouraged his fellow soldiers and terrified the enemies. Actually, Achilles was half-god who was almost invincible in people’s mind. That’s why his name was memorized long after his death.

Besides the two great men, the wisdom of Odysseus also proved him to be a great hero. He didn’t want to attend the war because he was happily married and had a lovely son. However, since his country was allied to Mycenae, he had to take the command given by the king of Mycenae. I’m quite sure that the story of the wooden horse is widely known, however, few people know who thought of the brilliant idea, that’s why I admired Odysseus so much because he was the person who got the idea. Thanks to the horse, the ten-year war came to an end at last. If you want to know how the wooden horse worked, just read the book.

The ancient Greeks believed that the gods and goddesses also played important roles in the origin, process and ending of the whole story.

The story of the golden apple was such an example. When Eris, the goddess of argument and disagreement, threw out the golden apple to a wedding ceremony on Mount Olympus, a dispute happened. Hera, the queen of gods, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, were all involved in the argument for the apple. None of them was willing to give way, so they turned to Paris for a final judgment. Tempted by Aphrodite’s beauty and promise, Paris handed the apple to her. To keep her word, Aphrodite helped him to get Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world, as his wife. That was the cause of the war.

Paris’s choice obviously annoyed the other two goddesses. So during the war, they helped the Greek alliance army while some other gods, such as Apollo and Aphrodite, guarded Troy. When Paris dueled with Helen’s former husband Menelaus, Aphrodite saved Paris when he was about to be finished off.

After the duel between those two people, there was a truce between the Greek alliance and Troy. However, both Hera and Athena were not happy to see it. Hera pursued her husband ZEUS:“ Now, will you send Athena to make the Troyjans break the peace?”(Page 22) Then with Zeus’s permission, Athena went down to start the war again and finally she brought the Greeks to success.

From the whole story, we can see that in ancient Greeks’ view, gods sometimes played a much more important role in their life. However, with the rapid development of science, we have learned that the Greek gods never existed. This is why a recent movie of Troy has not mentioned a single god. Everything happened due to men’s ambition, love, loyalty or jealousy. With those emotion and people’s effort, we human beings can accomplish wonders and be master of the world.

God are of less importance than they used to be. Nonetheless, the gods and goddesses made The Story of Troy more mysterious and marvelous.

I have learnt from the book more than the wonderful story of history, love and war. I believe that human can determine their destiny by their own. I highly recommend this book to my friends with the same interest.
