王宝强说：“‘傻根’、‘阿炳’只能说有我自己的一部分，现实生活中我不可能像傻根那样。而‘许三多’完全可以代表我王宝强，因为无论从举止还是内心，他是一个很丰富很现实的人，而且跟我很像。”

8岁那年，王宝强“决定不能在村里待一辈子，一辈子种地没意义，一定要出去闯。”于是他去了少林寺，因为深受李连杰电影《少林寺》的影响，王宝强以为去了那里就可以拍电影。

在少林寺当了6年的俗家弟子，除了练了一身“真功夫”之外，王宝强连“拍电影”都没有见过一次。这时，他才相信了寺里的和尚对他说的话：这里真的不是拍电影的地方。

16岁的时候，王宝强决定去“能拍电影的地方”——北京。当时，他的父母对他说：你这没头没脑的孩子能闯出个什么天地来?的确，一个农民的儿子，没有任何可利用的社会资源和背景，也没有接受过任何演员的训练，想通过演电影来改变自己的人生，当时看来他这个理想的确有些不可思议。

“北漂”生活是极端艰苦的。那时王宝强每天生活的主旋律是在北影门口等待一个群众演员的机会。如果等到了，每天可以挣20块钱，还有剧组的盒饭吃。这个机会不是经常有的，为了生活，王宝强就在北京的各个建筑工地上做起了农民工。
