Social Networking’s Influence on College Students

Social networking has gained huge worldwide popularity in recent years, especially among college students. In China, college student is the main force of social networking, 97.7% of which are fond of instant messaging and 80.7% prefer social networking sites like micro-blog and Q-zone (China Internet Network Information Center, 2013). Moreover, Michigan State University Original Study also finds that compared with Chinese students, American students are more tied to social media (2013). Therefore, nowadays there is a heated debate about advantages and disadvantages about social networking’s influence on college students.

Obviously, there are a number of positive features on social networking. It provides a convenient access to consolidate the relationship with people they know, make friends with strangers without restrictions of space and share happiness and sorrow. What’s more, social networking also has educational functions including reducing college drop-out rates, motivating students to work as a team, sending information about assignments, reminding students about deadline and stimulating students to help each other. (BBC News, 2009). There is no doubt that social networking plays a significant role in eiching students’ college lives.

However, every coin has two sides. There are also many disadvantages on the influence of social networking, among which, “soft addiction” is the most serious problem, distracting students from study. Because of lack of self-restriction, many students would waste plenty of time to search the social networking sites unconsciously, followed by a strong tendency to blame themselves (Li, 2013). This kind of “soft addiction” and distraction was also confirmed by Zhang (2011) who conducted a survey by questionare of 500 Chinese college students from different schools and found that 33% students could not bear one-week life without social networking and 77% students could not help themselves accessing social networking site during classes. Furthermore, a social experiment was performed by Harrisburg University (Pilkington, 2010) to figure out the effect after initiating blackout of all social networking sites. It turned out that some students became more concentrated on

the tutor and making notes instead of having instant messaging running in classes.

As far as I’m concerned, the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages, especially in China, where social networking is used for communication and entertainment and seldom plays the educational role (Li, 2011). The priority of a college student is to study hard instead of being addicted to social networking. Therefore, it is imperative for them to realize their “soft addiction” to social networking and correct their behavior.

As a product of modem computer and the Internet, online games have won great popularity among people, youngsters in particular. However, some people believe that young people who lack self-discipline can easily get indulged in these games and their health and academic performances are severely affected. This phenomenon can be found on TV reports from time to time, and many teachers and parents have expressed their concerns over this.

However, some others argue that online games are not always harmful. They can train the ability of youngsters to respond to things quickly. Take the spring festival as an example, traditionally, in the evening of the Chinese New Year eve, the whole family usually would have a reunion meal. Many of the family members are not really be at home quite often spending time with others especially with their old parents, so this reunion meal is very important for every family to have a chance to talk, enjoy the together time. But today all has changed. The most common look of the reunion meal now is that all young people eat quietly meanwhile the eyes are staring at their cell phone, checking out their “Friend Circle” to see if anyone update the status. They only make sounds when someone grab a red envelop with very lousy money in it. The old parents feel awkward when facing this weird situation, no one would even like to talk to them, the reunion meal turns out that there is just a bunch of strange people eating at the same table.

There are a number of tools available today that may help keep the Internet environment safer for children. 爸爸摇下车窗，问小伙子有什么事。小伙子可怜兮兮的告诉我们，说快过年了，他要回河南老家，但钱包被小偷偷了，身边一块钱也没有，希望我们给他点零钱买吃的。爸爸还在犹豫，我看小伙子长得眉清目秀的，看起来不像是坏人，就对爸爸恳求说：“爸爸，看他挺可怜的，给他点吧!”

爸爸掏出钱包，小伙子眼睛直直地盯着爸爸钱包里的那沓厚厚的钱，好一会儿才开口，说：“叔叔，要不你直接给我100块吧?”爸爸抽出一张20元面额的纸币，对他说：“你拿走吧，我要开车了!”

小伙子一把抢过爸爸手里的那张纸币，头也不回地走了。我对爸爸说：“爸爸，你真是一个好人，可是，你为什么不直接给他100块呢?他多可怜哪，20块钱够他回河南吗?”

爸爸把车靠边，停住，回过头对我说：“我现在还怀疑他是个骗子，我们反正没事，不如下车观察一下他在干什么，到时候再决定要不要再给他些。”

还没等我们锁好车，我突然看见那个小伙子飞快地冲进了附近的一间网吧，嘴里还喊着：“够我玩几个小时啦!”这一幕，我们全家人都看得目瞪口呆，许久，才互相交换了一下眼色，不约而同地说：“骗子!”妈妈还说：“又一个被网络游戏毒害的!”

网络游戏真有这么厉害吗?回家后，我查阅了很多资料，可不是，网络游戏对青少年的毒害还真不少呢，比如，会使人无心学习，无心工作，久而久之，还会上瘾，由此还会引发出一系列的问题。

看来，真要远离网络游戏了。

Last week, I found all of my friends were talking the novel Game of Thrones. I asked one of my friend why he was so crushed on this novel. He answered me that because there were all kinds of amazing characters. So I decided to read this novel, at the beginning, I could not figure out the characters, because there were too much characters. But as I insisted, I started to fall in love with this novel, I could not stop reading, I wanted to know the truth. Game of Thrones is really a good book, the author’s creation is so awesome, he creates many magical roles. Like the white walkers, which are the dead people come back to life without human’s consciousness. I open my vision, I appreciate the author’s, he writes the good literature book. I’d like to introduce this book to more friends.

随着信息的快速发展，网络几乎家家都有。但是网络有是会给人们带来极大的坏处。

我给大家举一个网络坏处的例子：

在2005年的一天，一位品学兼优的中学生正式的离开了人间，他不是像雷峰那样英雄的死了，而是因为网络游戏而粹死的。在一个放学的时间里，本来打算回家的小俊在回家的路途上碰见了自己同班同学，他们知道小俊是一个乖孩子，但是，小俊家非常有钱，如果小俊去的话，他们就可以多玩几分钟了，他们上前问小俊，去不去网吧，小俊根本不知道什么是网吧，所以不想去，可是在同学的“熏陶”下，小俊去了，他去过网吧一次就觉得这里真好玩，天天一放学就去，有时还逃课，他的学习一直下降，小俊却不管，他只知道他要升级，他的爸爸妈妈又没有时间管他。突然有一天，小俊在网吧了有点头痛，痛的厉害，后来小俊就这样昏死过去了。

网络也有好处，我们大家一定要利用好网络资源。不要被网络这张大网给网住。

同学们，在我们身边，都是需要网络的，当我们好好利用网络时，网络是好的，可当我们把网络利用在坏处上，那时的网络是不好的，让我们一起利用网络的好处，让网络的好处发芽起来吧!

这一段时间，我发现我有一些沉迷于网络游戏。只要一有机会，我就会不由自主地捧起Ipad，津津有味地玩起来，即便妈妈再三提醒，我也置之不理。眼 看暑假已经过掉啦一大半，而我的作业还没有完成到一半。妈妈是看在眼里急在心头，经过妈妈一番语重心长的教育后，我决定就此为题，写一篇作文，分析一下游 戏的利与弊。

我们先来说游戏的利。好的游戏可以锻炼我们的经济头脑和理财观念。例如我近期常玩的游戏叫“浴火银河”，这是一款宇宙探险游戏。在游戏当中，玩家需 要通过不同的方式来赚钱，并武装自己的飞船。我比较喜欢的一种赚钱方式是“跑商”，就是根据不同星系的商品价格，在价格便宜的星球买，到价格贵的地方卖。 比如一条“毛巾”，在这个星系十块钱，可在那个星系就变成啦一百块，你别看它一次赚钱不多，可一次运几百条，不断重复，积少成多，就能捞到一大桶金。

游戏还能快速提高我们手和脑的配合能力。“Temple Run神庙逃亡”是一款众所皆知、家喻户晓的跑酷游戏。玩家需要控制人物时而跳跃，时而卧倒，逃离魔兽的追捕，逃离神庙。游戏中，玩家不但要收集金币，还 要灵巧地躲避障碍物、悬崖等。我玩这个游戏初期，总是因为反应力慢，或双手没有协调好而坠入深渊。可是，经过我的不断练习，渐渐地，我能够跑很远啦。我在 “神庙逃亡”里练出来的反应能力在我打乒乓球时得以运用。看图猜成语游戏也能锻炼我们的思维，积累更多的成语。

玩游戏的好处显而易见，但是如果沉迷游戏，那一负面影响也不容忽视。一是玩多啦游戏坏眼睛，眼睛是心灵的窗口，我们还处在童年，但是不少的同学已经 因为玩太多游戏而带上啦小眼镜。还有许多同学深深地沉迷于游戏的虚拟世界中，难以自拔。他们荒废自己的学业，夜以继日的玩游戏。有的还因为没钱买游戏币而 铤而走险，去偷盗、抢劫。这些都是因为没有良好的自我控制能力而造成的。

游戏是利，还是弊，在于你的自我控制能力。适当玩游戏，可以帮助我们放松放松心情，敏捷思维。但是我们一定要有节制，有节制、有良好的自我控制能力是玩游戏的资格。假如你根本控制不啦自己玩游戏的时间，那你就别玩游戏啦，因为你没有资格。

Should Internet Slang Be Prohibited?

At present, Internet Slang, such as “GG, MM, Xia Mi”，has become popular among the teenagers.

There are different opinions on Internet Slang. Some students think Internet Slang is vivid, fashionable and full of humor and intelligence. Besides, it makes chatting on the Internet quicker.

However, some other students think Internet Slang lacks depth of thought and is too simple. Also, it is hard to understand and not accepted by most people. The words sometimes might make people confused, even resulting in misunderstanding.

Every coin has two sides. In my opinion, living in the Information Age, if we don’t know the Internet Slang, we seem to fall behind the times. It will be OK as long as these terms are used correctly in proper situations.
