Strong earthquake hits China

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 has hit Chinas southern province of Sichuan, shaking buildings as far away as Beijing, Shanghai and Bangkok.

It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties or damage from the tremor which the the US Geological Survey (UGS) earlier put at 7.8.

The epicentre of the quake was 93 kilometres north of Chengdu.

Wenchuan, which took full force of the quake, has a population of 111,000 people.

It is in an ethnic Tibetan area in Aba county which recently saw violent clashes between Tibetans and Chinese authorities.

According to some reports there was a second earthquake measuring 3.9 which hit the Beijing district of Tongzhou at roughly the same time.

Telephone lines in the affected area are jammed and there are still no reports of casualties.

Reports from Thailand say high buildings in Bangkok continued to shake several minutes after the tremors began.

"We felt continuous shaking for about two or three minutes. All the people in our office are rushing downstairs. Were still feeling slight tremblings," said an office worker in Chengdu.

Chinas tallest building, the Jinmao Tower, and other highrise buildings in Shanghais financial district were evacuated after tremors were first felt.

A spokesman for the China Earthquake Administration said it was still checking the epicentre and scale of the tremor.

2008年5月12日14时28分，汶川大地震!那一刻，山崩地裂，无数人在这突如其来的灾难中失去了家园、亲人。从电视和报纸上，我也得知许多与我一样正在学校教室中准备上课的哥哥姐姐、弟弟妹妹，他们在地震发生时，由于来不及逃生，被永远地埋在了废墟中，失去了如花的生命。消息传来，所有的人都行动起来，为灾区人民伸出援手，有的捐款捐物，有的无偿献血，有的还亲自奔赴灾区参加救援。大家都在尽力为灾区人民奉献一片爱心。

在我们学校，也开展了悼念和赈灾活动。2008年5月19日至5月21日，是全国哀悼日，学校操场上那面国旗也悄然降下半旗。2008年5月19日14时28分，全校师生为灾区死难人民默哀三分钟。我们学校还开展了捐款活动。在老师的号召下，同学们纷纷将自己平时积攒下来的零花钱带到了学校。在班级里，同学们踊跃地将捐款交到了老师手中，五元、十元、五十元、一百元，钱虽然不多，但每一分都代表了班上同学对灾区人民的爱心。在学校举行的捐款仪式上，全校同学肃立在操场上，各个班级都派出代表走上捐款台，庄严地将凝聚着同学们爱心的捐款投到捐款箱中。

这一刻，我相信灾区人民在全国人民的帮助下，一定能够从灾难中站起来，重建美好的家园。

May 12th is an ordinary day in 2008,it is in this day that shocking earthquake happened in Sichuan province,China.The earthquake destroyed nearly everything in Wenchuan country Sichuan province.It was terrible.We cant describle the scene what we saw with any words.Thousands of people were injured even died.And thousands of children became such unlucky ones who lost fathers or mothers ,they longed to have families to continue their lives .I am sympathetic to their fate !But I believed that we can fight against the fate and change it .For example ,there many people keeping living without food or water for about 100 hours during the earthquake!

What an unbelievable thing it is !their great spirits showed the powerful life vitality of humans!However,they must keep fighting against the death .Many schools were destroyed and there were many students and teachers who left us forever.Sadness,hoplessness and different kinds of danger spreaded out here and there !

But ,fortunately ,love is around us :the Communist party helps us ,the army helps us ,the people all over the world help us .They offer us with money ,goods ,love and so on !For example ,li lian ji,a warm-hearted man ,offered us with 20 million yuan !

2008年5月12日是一个平凡的一天,在这一天,令人震惊的地震发生在四川省,中国。汶川地震几乎毁了一切在中国四川省。这是可怕的。我们不能简述现场我们看到任何单词。成千上万的人受伤甚至死亡。和成千上万的儿童成为不幸的人失去了父亲或母亲,他们渴望有家庭继续他们的生活。我同情他们的命运!但是我相信我们可以对抗命运和改变它。例如,有很多人保持生活没有食物或水约100个小时在地震!

On April 25, 2015, 14 at 11 points, Nepal (28.2 degrees north latitude, 84.7 degrees east longitude) a magnitude 8.1 earthquake, focal depth of 20 km, 70 aftershocks. The epicenter is located in pokhara, maximum intensity of X, heavy intensity area from the epicenter of eastward.

As of May 1, 2015, the quake killed at least 7040 people, 14123 people were injured, Tibet, China, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, etc are casualties.

其中芦山县有一位11岁女孩叫黄思怡，她父母在县城打工，黄思怡一直跟爷爷奶奶生活在一起，地震发生时，黄思怡从楼上往下跑，途中被围墙砸到。在邻居的帮助下，思怡被救出来。伤势很严重，思怡已经接受了右腿截肢手术，但依然昏迷不醒，只能靠呼吸机辅助呼吸。医生说她的肝、肾功能受到严重损害。思怡正在华西医院的重症监护室进行抢救。看到她妈妈接受记者采访的时候声泪俱下，伤心欲绝，我心里很难受，鼻子酸酸的，我为她祈祷，希望她快点醒过来，快点好起来。思怡，加油!

我心里直打哆嗦，这可怕的地震真可恶，地震发生时为什么都没有前兆呢，为什么没有人能预测呢?我们这里台风来临之前气象台都会通知，要我们做好防台工作。真心希望我们人类能够事先预测这种自然灾害。

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 has hit Chinas southern province of Sichuan, shaking buildings as far away as Beijing, Shanghai and Bangkok.

It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties or damage from the tremor which the the US Geological Survey (UGS) earlier put at 7.8.

The epicentre of the quake was 93 kilometres north of .

Wenchuan, which took full force of the quake, has a population of 111,000 people.

It is in an ethnic area in Aba county which recently saw violent clashes between  and Chinese authorities.

According to some reports there was a second earthquake measuring 3.9 which hit the Beijing district of Tongzhou at roughly the same time.

Telephone lines in the affected area are jammed and there are still no reports of casualties.

Reports from Thailand say high buildings in Bangkok continued to shake several minutes after the tremors began.

"We felt continuous shaking for about two or three minutes. All the people in our office are rushing downstairs. Were still feeling slight tremblings," said an office worker in .

Chinas tallest building, the Jinmao Tower, and other highrise buildings in Shanghais financial district were evacuated after tremors were first felt.

"People were shouting get out, get out, so we all ran out of our dorm," said a student surnamed Zhang at a university in nearby Chongqing.

A spokesman for the China Earthquake Administration said it was still checking the epicentre and scale of the tremor.

汶川大地震造成的灾难性后果之一就是许多学校的教学楼坍塌了，此次我国媒体报道的时候使用的词语叫做“垮塌”，在英语中，无论是坍塌还是垮塌，其实都是一个词，即collapse，既是名词，也是动词，还是美联社的同一篇报道中提到：In the town of Dujiangyan, a school collapse buried 900 students. In Wufu, nearly every building in the village withstood the quake but for a primary school, whose collapse killed some 300 students. 又如，美联社新闻说，Experts said hope was quickly fading for anyone still caught in the wreckage of homes, schools, offices and factories that collapsed in the magnitude-7.9 quake, the most powerful in three decades in quake-prone China.房屋collapse的后果就是被夷为平地，而英语中表示“夷为平地”的对应说法是flatten，如美联社报道说The magnitude 7.9 quake flattened houses, schools and offices the southwestern province of Sichuan. In Hanwang, the towns mostly older buildings were flattened or severely damaged by the quake.

此次地震造成大量人员不幸遇难，让我们无不为之揪心，但这又是无法回避的事实。为此，党中央和国务院紧急强调，在抗震救灾进入第二阶段之后，随着死亡人数的增加和气温的升高，震区防疫就成为工作重点。为严防灾区传染病流行，卫生部防疫队5月15日进驻灾区。这里提到的“防疫”就是epidemic prevention，其中的epidemic是“流行病”，“传染病”的意思，在这里指的是“疫情”。如美联社的这一报道说：There were concerns about epidemics if the dead were not soon buried or cremated. 这个句子中的cremate是人死亡之后进行火化处理的意思。为了更好地应对震区可能出现的疫情，卫生部下发了通知，美联社的报道说：The Ministry of Health issued a notice ordering bodies to be cleaned where they were found and buried as soon as possible, far from water sources and downwind from populated areas.

此次惨烈的大地震造成了数以万计的居民遇难，而且死亡人数还在不断攀升。天灾人祸中的死亡总数，英语中叫做death toll，如美联社报道说The emergency headquarters of the State Council, Chinas Cabinet, said the confirmed death toll had reached 19,509 — up more than 4,500 from the day before. 地震造成的直接后果是无数人死伤和无数房屋建筑被毁，但是，地震还可能造成伴随而来的“次生灾害”，对此党中央和国务院十分重视，及时做出应对部署，以避免次生灾害对人民生命财产的再次损害。美联社报道说：Even though aftershocks had mostly abated, the risk of secondary damage remained. Chinas Ministry of Land and Resources warned heavy rains — forecast for the next few days — would likely set off new landslides in the mountainous disaster zone, where many workers were busy extracting victims and recovering bodies.上文中的secondary damage就是“次生灾害”，而aftershocks had mostly abated指的是余震已经减弱。 5月20日下午，中共中央政治局常委、国务院总理、国务院抗震救灾总指挥部总指挥温家宝主持召开总指挥部第11次会议时就强调切实做好受灾群众安置工作，防范次生灾害。

Aftershock就是“余震”，上文已提及。而“地震”除了表达为earthquake及其缩略形式quake之外还可以说temblor，这是美国英语中用来表示“地震”的单词。此外，由于此次地震造成的伤亡后果十分惨重，因此在修饰性词汇方面，英语中用了多个不同单词，如massive/powerful/devastating/deadly/killer earthquake。

Yesterday afternoon, when I was sitting in the classroom and listening to

the teacher. Suddenly, the screen seemed moving and it started to shake. My

teacher stopped his class and then he asked us to calm down. He let the students

who were close to the door left first, and then the rest of us ran out of the

classroom one by one. After a while, everything seemed to be normal, the teacher

asked us to go back to the classroom. Later I learned that there indeed came the

earthquake. I admired our teacher so much, in the important moment, he did not

run away, but considered us in the first place. He is a good teacher.

Homework is an important exercise for us to practise what we learned from school, however, a lot of students like to plagiaze other students, it is no good for ourselves.

Most of people who like to plagiarize will think there is no harm for plagarizing, but when we are grown up, can we still plagiarize others work? i think the answer is obviously not, and when you are copying work from others, you cant learn anything of it, what teach told you and teach you, you will eventually all forget, and when you homework is found similar with others students after you handing over, it will be shamed both for you and your parents.

So, dont plagiarize other students, trust yourself, you can do any homework by yourself and gain from it.
