Twenty-two of us went without food for 30 hours! It was a challenge, but we could drink as much as we liked and we had a doctor there, so it was not dangerous. We wanted to improve awareness of hunger because every day children are dying of starvation. It was a great success. The local newspaper and TV reported it and we received many donations.”

The volunteering spirit has spread among the Chinese people in recent years, especially among young people.

Volunteering is of tremendous benefits to both those in need and society. Take the Wenchuan Earthquake as an example. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers play an active role in Wenchuan quake-hit areas. And they contribute daily necessaries, offer medical help and psychological help to the disaster relief work.

Besides, volunteering would be beneficial to the volunteers themselves~ Getting involved in volunteering, volunteers will be exposed to a new environment, and they can learn how to work well in a team, how to improve their interpersonal skills and organizational skills, all of which are critical for their professional growth.

As a college student, I sincerely hope that everyone would join the volunteering work. It is not only good to our society, but also a chance for us to grow and to learn.

Everyone in China is looking forward to the 2008 Olympic Games. Athletes from all over the world will come to Beijing for this competition.

An Olympic athlete must be strong not only in body, but also in mind. They have to train for years to achieve the necessary strength and control over their sports to compete in the Olympics. This requires great discipline and self-sacrifice. Similarly, the Olympic athletes have to train their minds in order to compete under extreme mental pressure. In other words, and Olympic athlete must be in top condition both mentally and physically.

Speaking good English also requires great discipline and self-sacrifice. If you want to speak good English, you must be mentally and physically strong just like an Olympic athlete.

今天下午，学校召集了4到6年级选出来的志愿者去大门那里做一件事情。

我们都不知道老师叫我们去是要说什么，你看看我，我看看你，不知不觉就到了老师指定的地方。我还以为我们班是来的最早的呢，谁知，在我们前面来的已经有好几个班级了，六年级的大哥哥，大姐姐们都在谈论着，只见老师来了。老师手里还那着好多张纸，不知道纸上写着什么。老师给我们每个人都发了两份，我们拿在手里以后都开始认真看起来，哦，原来是志愿者登记表呀!我可高兴了，如果算的话，我从3年级就想当志愿者了呢!我一直在向往着志愿者，把它看成一个很神圣的职位，我一直憧憬的一个职位，一直想当上志愿者，可就是错过了一次次的机会，这次，我终于有机会了，真的是太好了!我一点会好好做好一切的，因为我喜欢这个职位，当然不会错过了，我一定会好好努力的。

First of all, it is a good virtue to help others, even in modern society. We all need others’ help in case we get into trouble.
