包拯不仅机智而且大公无私。包拯做官以后对家里人的要求也很严。他曾写过一则“家训”，刻在家中壁上：“后世子孙任，有犯脏滥者，不得放归本家;以殁之后，北吾子孙。”意思是说：谁要是做官犯了贪脏，不许回老家，死后不得葬进包家坟墓。不听者，不是我的子孙。
