燃放爆竹风俗最早起因于驱鬼除邪,祈求一年的吉祥顺利.传说,有个叫做"山臊"的四角怪兽和恶鬼平常藏在深山,每隔365天便出来伤害人畜.这些无恶不做的坏东西害怕爆炸的声音和亮光.于是,每到岁末年首,人们就争着燃放鞭炮,用来驱赶"山臊"和恶鬼.

我奶奶家在浚县县城旁的一个小村庄，叫浚县善堂乡酸枣庙村，这里以前到处都是枣树，，可是一些人把一部分枣树砍了，现在只有几个大枣园了。听奶奶说，酸枣庙村之所以叫酸枣庙村，是因为从前，有一个人，因为县城生活费用高，所以带着家人、朋友到县城外面开垦荒地来种粮、生活。来到了酸枣庙村这个地方，看到了一大片枣树，这时正是中午，大家跑到枣树下，品尝着枣，有点酸，但十分好吃，所以大家在这里建房舍，开始了新的生活。后来，县城里的穷人听到了这个消息，都闻讯赶来，慢慢地，人多了起来，变成了一个村庄。因为村里的人要和城里人交易，所以村里的人和城里人开办了一个庙会，这个庙会主要是交易一些特产和一些日用品，所以十分热闹。小庙会基本上两个星期一次，大庙会则是一年一度，十分热闹。
