The book first published on 28 January 1813 by the bookseller Thomas Egerton who had also published Sense and Sensibility, the original version of the novel was written in 1796-1797 under the title First Impressions .

But Darcy greatly offends her by his supercilious behavior and this dislike is increased by Wickham, a dashing young militia officer of the unjust treatment he has met with at Darcys hands.

One day when Darcy and Bingley’s two sisters disgusted with the vulgarity of Mrs. Bennet and her two youngest daughters, effectively separated Bingley and Jane. Meanwhile, Collins, a cousin of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, married charlotte, a friend of Elizabeth’s, for Elizabeth’s refuse to marry him. Published in 1847, Wuthering Heights was not well received by the reading public, many of whom condemned it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural--and author Emily Bronte went to her grave in 1848 believing that her only novel was a failure. It was not until 1850, when Wuthering Heights received a second printing with an introduction by Emilys sister Charlotte, that it attracted a wide readership. And from that point the reputation of the book has never looked back. Today it is widely recognized as one of the GREat novels of English literature.

Even so, Wuthering Heights continues to divide readers. It is not a pretty love story; rather, it is swirling tale of largely unlikeable people caught up in obsessive love that turns to dark madness. It is cruel, violent, dark and brooding, and many people find it extremely unpleasant. And yet--it possesses a grandeur of language and design, a sense of tremendous pity and GREat loss that sets it apart from virtually every other novel written.

The novel is told in the form of an extended FLASHback. After a visit to his strange landlord, a newcomer to the area desires to know the history of the family--which he receives from Nelly Deans, a servant who introduces us to the Earnshaw family who once resided in the house known as Wuthering Heights. It was once a cheerful place, but Old Earnshaw adopted a "Gipsy" child who he named Heathcliff. And Catherine, daughter of the house, found in him the perfect companion: wild, rude, and as proud and cruel as she. But although Catherine loves him, even recognizes him as her soulmate, she cannot lower herself to marry so far below her social station. She instead marries another, and in so doing sets in motion an obsession that will destroy them all.

Wuthering Heights is a bit difficult to "get into;" the opening chapters are so dark in their portrait of the end result of this obsessive love that they are somewhat off-putting. But they feed into the flow of the work in a remarkable way, setting the stage for one of the most remarkable structures in all of literature, a story that circles upon itself in a series of repetitions as it plays out across two generations. Catherine and Heathcliff are equally remarkable, both vicious and cruel, and yet never able to shed their impossible love no matter how brutally one may wound the other.

As the novel coils further into alcoholism, seduction, and one of the most elaborately imagined plans of revenge it gathers into a ghostly tone: Heathcliff, driven to madness by a woman who is not there but who seems reflected in every part of his world--dragging her corpse from the grave, hearing her calling to him from the moors, escalating his brutality not for the sake of brutality but so that her memory will never fade, so that she may never leave his mind until death itself. Yes, this is madness, insanity, and there is no peace this side of the grave or even beyond.

It is a stunning novel, frightening, inexorable, unsettling, filled with unbridled passion that makes one cringe. Even if you do not like it, you should read it at least once--and those who do like it will return to it again and again.

总结一下，让我感动的有三点。首先，我读的版本是朱熹的《大学章句集注》，一直对宋朝的学者无好感，尤其是朱熹，印象中总觉得他是个迂腐古板，呆滞严厉的学者，毫无灵气可言，看过这篇集注之后才发现人家并非徒有虚名。他的注疏严谨而详尽，对原文的理解深刻而通透。想来能千古留名果然是有它的道理的。朱熹只是古代学者的一个典型代表，从他身上可以看到古代文人学者极为严谨的治学态度。他们毕恭毕敬，兢兢业业地学习钻研孔圣之道，几乎是带了一种虔诚的。这种对待学术的虔诚也许在今天的学者身上很难再发现，这是一种不计功利的严肃和认真，也是最让我感动的地方。它纯粹源于治学者本身。

接下来是第二点，《大学》讲的是修身齐家治国平天下，也就是个人道德修养与治理天下之间的辩证关系。前面很大一部分讲的是个人道德修养，“汤之盘铭曰：‘苟日新，日日新，又日新’。”此句同孔子的“君子日三省乎己”道理是一样的。古人对于道德修养的重视到了无以复加的地步。他们对自己提出了严格，甚至是几近苛刻的要求。“治骨角者，既切而复磋之。治玉石者，既琢而复磨之。”君子自身的恐怕比治骨角，治玉石更要严厉。

这种对于完美人格的执着追求，令人肃然起敬。这是令我大为感动的第二个地方。在当今这个标榜个性的时代，人们我行我素，安于自己的本来状态，“个性”在张扬其魅力的同时也为不少不思进取者提供了放任自己的理由。古人对于完美的极致追求也许并不会实现，实际上实现的人确实很少，但是他们这种对美的人格的不懈追求却是值得我们每一个人去尊敬，敬重。

第三，“古之欲明明德于天下者，先治其国;欲治其国者，先齐其家;欲齐其家者，先修其身;欲修其身者，先正其心;欲正其心者，先诚其意;欲诚其意者，先致其知;致知在格物。”从这句话中，我看出的是一种积极的人生态度，即有所作为，换句话说，就是用行动去改变现实，将目标一步步分解细化，从而逐步实现。与此同时，在实现目标的时候也要注意方法，分清本末然后循序渐进。“自天子以至于庶人，壹是皆以修身为本。”修身才能齐家治国平天下。正因如此，古人认真而严肃地经营人生，严格要求自己，修身养性。相比之下，我们现代人面对问题要消极得多，颓废与无奈也多得多。许多时候，我们也给自己树立光辉高远的理想，然而却仅仅是止于口头，懒于行动。只是说说而已，真到要为理想吃苦的时候却畏畏缩缩，止步不前。想想古人，再看看我们自己，真是汗颜。

A lot of examples are showing this point. In the future, changes are likely to be even much greater as science reaches out to shape life itself. Maybe one day, the possibility that life existed on Mars billions of years ago will be potentially one of the greatest discoveries of our time. It is the force of the competition, we human beings’ inquiring mind and initiative that bring about the non-stopped development of science. Therefore, it is difficult and impossible to prevent science from changing the world and our life as well.

At present, we are in two minds about science. On the one hand, we are enjoying the sweet life as a result of the evelopment of science, and expect it to continue. And we are showing our interests into some scientific expeditions, such as the astronomy, the alien civilization, etc. On the other hand, we are distrustful of it, due to the lack of understanding of science. Some people thus far are still very superstitious, and they would even believe in superstitions rather than believe in science.

Stephen Hawking, one of the most remarkable scientists in the world, once said, “In a democratic society, the public needs to have a basic understanding of the science, so that it can make informed decisions and not leave them in the hands of experts.” This has reminded me of Professor Alan G. 【错误的忠义】

最近，我认真研读了《水浒传》这本盛传不衰的经典之作。《水浒传》这本书又名《忠义水浒传》，全书无处不体现忠义二字，这其中有对哥哥的“忠”，例如武松；有对母亲的“忠”，例如李逵；有对主人的“忠”，例如燕青……我在此说的是宋江的忠，一种对朝廷的忠。我认为这是一种错误的忠义。

自晁盖中箭身亡后，宋江便把梁山泊“聚义厅”改成了“忠义堂”。当他坐上头把交椅后，他的忠义就演变成招安的路线。

首先，我们不妨从招安的背景思考。当时朝廷昏暗至极，宋徽宗是非难辩，高俅等奸臣当道，全书无处不体现这黑暗朝廷的可笑。在第二回书中，宋徽宗仅凭高俅能踢得一脚好足球，就把高俅升做太尉。太尉是掌管军事的最高官员，这足以体现皇帝不懂用人，毫无政治才干。而那高俅品德低下，第八回到第十回中，讲述忠臣林冲本是八十万禁军教头，高俅的外甥喜欢林冲之妻，为了能得到林冲的妻子，高俅一次次加以陷害，林冲被逼得走投无路，只得上梁山。一个国家的重臣尽为干羞耻之事而颠倒黑白，迫害忠臣，更足以见得朝廷的腐败。如此不讲正义的集团，如何能做到“先天下之忧而忧，后天下这乐而乐”？梁山好汉归顺朝廷后，除了服从黑暗权力，别无选择，这不正违背了水浒好汉替天行道的初衷吗？

我们再从故事情节中分析朝廷提出招安的原因。当梁山泊好汉全伙聚集时，朝廷中所持态度是武力解决，先后派了枢密使童贯和太尉高俅率领百万大军清剿梁山泊，这些官兵被梁山泊大军杀得落花流水，惨败回朝。身为四大奸臣的两个人童贯和高俅受此屈辱，哪会就此罢休，既然在好汉家门口吃败仗，那么他们就寻思把好汉招入朝中，占有主动管理权，一旦入朝，梁山好汉就得听上级指令，不容反抗。于是他们利用招安作为缓兵之计，打算日后再报此屈辱。这样的一次招安，其间有多少诚意？其中又有多少阴谋？可惜宋江不能认识到这一点，这与宋江出身官场，祖辈都是忠于朝廷之人，从小就接受教育，不能反朝廷，反朝廷就是玷污家族的思想有关。假设这次招安是一件礼物，那么招安的行动只是一层简单的包装纸罢了，而里面藏得严严实实的是奸臣们迫害好汉的险恶用心。最后的几回中，宋江、卢俊义都被四大奸臣迫害致死。事实证明这是一次失败的招安，这样的招安根本不是从国家利益出发，只是奸臣为了自身利益消灭异己。

最后，我们分析一下招安后梁山好汉干了些什么。招安后，朝廷以“有军功才能入朝”为由，让他们先去攻打辽和河北田虎，在胜利归来后，朝廷没有让他们休息，而是派他们去打王庆，最后攻打方腊。想想他们打的是什么人？不是敌！这些集团都是替天行道、反黑暗朝廷之人！攻打他们，把他们全灭了后，黑暗的朝廷没有了忧虑，这岂不是在帮黑暗的朝廷？这样的做法对百姓几乎没有一点好处，这不是又违背了要扶济百姓的信念吗？这样的忠义是没有原则的、错误的。

忠，应该忠的是正义，是国家，是百姓！梁山泊好汉打着替天行道的旗号，可最后却归顺了这个黑暗的朝廷。奸臣当道，好汉们又如何为国家富强、百姓安居效力？在我看来，是宋江错误而固执的忠，断送了自己，断送了一百零八将，断送了梁山泊曾经的辉煌。梁山泊起义失败的最大原因就在于这个领导者的错误观念与决策。

作为中学生，我将用努力学习的实际行动来体现对祖国的忠。其实在我们这个和平民主的时代，我们对社会对国家的忠就是尽好自己的一份责任，让社会和谐运转，百姓安居。
