Dear Mr. Cao

Hello!

First of all, I wish you all the best in the new year. After such a long

holiday, where are you going to play? We went out on a big cruise ship. The

cruise ship is like a small city with everything! Im very excited! I brought a

book "understanding Chinese traditional festivals" on my journey. This book

makes me really understand the meaning of the Spring Festival. Let me also tell

you about it to Mr. Cao!

This book is full of rich cultural atmosphere. The text interprets the text

with pictures and notes each other. It vividly shows the general situation,

origin, celebration activities and various folk customs of traditional Chinese

festivals such as the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival and the Dragon Boat

Festival. Let more Chinese people have an in-depth understanding of their own

traditional festivals, and also open a window to the folk customs for foreign

friends who want to understand the ancient Chinese culture.

It introduces why the Spring Festival is called "Chinese New Year"? Why do

you eat Zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival? How is "qiqiqiaoqiao" going on?

In this book, the author uses pictures and stories to uncover the mystery

for readers. This is not only a pleasant reading, but also a kind trip back to

folk customs.

I see that the Spring Festival, Tomb Sweeping Day, Dragon Boat Festival,

Mid Autumn Festival and other traditional festivals add endless fun to peoples

lives. But how much do you know about the stories behind these festivals? Dont

worry. Now open this book and follow the two lovely children in the book to

start this rare journey of looking back on traditional folk festivals. This book

introduces what are the traditional Chinese festivals? What is the history? And

so on. There are pictures at the bottom of each paragraph. There will be a few

children talking about other customs below. They look vivid and interesting, but

they are good-looking. Let me tell you something about it. There are many

introductions about the Spring Festival in the book, such as: the Spring

Festival in the traditional sense refers to the twelfth lunar month On the

eighth day of the eighth day of the lunar month or the third day of the twelfth

lunar month, the sacrificial stoves lasted until the fifteenth day of the first

month, with new years Eve and the first day of the first month as the climax.

The first day of the first month is the first day of the year, also known as

lunar new year. The word Spring Festival has different special meanings in

different historical periods. It is said that in ancient times, there was a

monster called Nian. It changed from eating insects to eating big living people.

Therefore, people in the village were very afraid of it. Every winter, when food

was scarce in the mountains, Nian would intrude into the village and hunt for

people and livestock. People were always in panic. Later, people all know that

Nian is most afraid of red, fire and noise, so the family will paste couplets on

the door, so Nian dare not come! Ha ha, isnt it very attractive to you!

This book is really recommended. I cant get tired of reading every page.

Its so interesting. I know so much about customs and culture, and its even

more fascinating because there are illustrations and texts. Youll love it, Miss

Cao!

OK, thats it!

Best wishes

Good health and family happiness

Dear Mr. Cao

Hello!

This new year, I have read a lot of books about the new year, and the book

that impresses me most is Spring Festival.

The author of Spring Festival is an Chengna. A long time ago, there was a

monster named "Nian". It had two sharp horns and covered with plum red scales.

Bigger than an elephant, fiercer than a tiger. It looks terrible. Every new

years Eve, "Nian" will come to the village to eat people. One year "Nian" came

again, and a young man said, "its better to fight with it than to let it eat!"

The young people nearby picked up the weapons on the ground and attacked Nian

one after another. Unfortunately, they were not the opponents of Nian, so they

were all eaten by Nian.

Since then, "Nian" has become more fierce, so every new years Eve people

will hide in caves. Another year, new years Eve arrived, just as people were

packing up, there was an old man begging. The old man asked people for food, but

people were very busy and had no time to pay attention to him. Suddenly, an old

woman gave him some food and advised him to go up the mountain to hide. But he

did not hurry to eat the food his wife gave him. The old woman advised him to

run for his life, but he said, "I have a way to get rid of Nian. She thought he

was talking crazy, so I had to leave him. In the middle of the night, Nian broke

into the village. She found a big red paper on her door, lit a candle in the

room, and burned a torch in the yard. "Year" carefully came to the door, and

suddenly came the "crackling" sound in the courtyard. Then an old man in red

came out laughing. "Nian" was so scared that he ran out of the village. The

original "year" most afraid of red, fire and explosion sound!

The next day, the people who took refuge were very surprised to see that

the village was safe and sound! The old woman suddenly realized that the

villagers talked about the old mans promise. People flocked to their wives and

in laws house. They saw red paper pasted in front of the door, and a pile of

unburned bamboo in the courtyard was still "popping" and several red candles in

the room were still flashing. In fact, the old man is to help people mirror out

"Nian" immortals.

Since then, every new years Eve, every family pastes couplets to set off

firecrackers, and every household has bright lights to keep the new year. People

call this traditional festival the Spring Festival.

After reading this book, I realized that the old beggar turned out to be a

fairy. I was so moved that the "year" was formed in this way. Now we also call

it "Spring Festival". I think this book is very popular. I have learned a lot

from it. I really want more foreigners to know and understand the true meaning

of the traditional Chinese festival "Spring Festival". thank you!

Where There is Life, There is Music

What is music, no one can explain.

Just imagine for a moment that you are sitting in a magnificent concert

hall. The conductor waves his shiny baton with a graceful swing through the air.

A beautiful melody floats slowly around you

You sit quietly with your eyes shut, your heart open. The delicate vibratos

of the violins carry you to a mood of heavenly bliss. An airy solo of the flute

draws you to the imagination, the notes flow like some jumping swallows dancing

and singing calling for the coming of Spring.

I like music from my childhood. My father often says when I was a baby I

would never go to sleep without soft, beautiful lullabies crooning around my

ears . Now music is a part of my life. When I feel tired, disappointed or in low

spirits, I usually turn to music. Music, nothing but only music can have so

wonderful an effect on my heart, on my pond of feeling.

Music comes with us. Where there is life, there is music. Where there is

music, there is hope. It lies in everyday life, in everyone’s life, in

everything we see, in everything we hear-- in the rhythm of the sea, in the

whisper of a gentle wind, in the melody of a bird’s singing, in the harmony of

village chimes. You can hear music wherever you may go . A man who doesn’t know

music will lose half the world. A nation that pays little or no attention to

music will be a sad nation. A world without music would be the one for the dead

and devils.

So dear friends, let’s open our arms to embrace music and enjoy it

throughout our lives. Love music and love life.

Thank you.

During the years of suffering, a super hero called Maze was facing the war

of the Americans. One day he was planning a vacation, that was going to be

amazing; when a big giant octopus attacked the whole city…

He had no choice but to stop his vacation, and to stop the octopus. He was

transforming into a big octopus, and ready to battle Maze. Maze was ready; he

got his sword and shield ready for battle. When he came, everybody cheered for

him; the octopus was not very happy…

He used his legs and arms and kicked Maze right up into the air. Maze said

to the people; “I have a plan, but I’ll need you guys to help me with it;”

everybody agreed to help Maze, and so they all gathered around to listen to

Maze’s plan. He said to the people, “I need a person, to help and pull a string;

that way, when the giant octopus reached me, you guys just pull the string, and

it will trip; then I will need a guy that is good at tying knots, that is when

the giant octopus trips, that guy will tie his up and give it to me; then rest

of the problems I will deal with it…”

Everybody agreed to his magnificent plan, and so they got to work. First

Maze went to get a very long string, and gave it to two people that were very

good at strength to pull it, instead of pulling it let us make it that Maze’s

plan was not at length that good, for the octopus knew all about his plan; and

so could very easily pass the test…

When they failed, Maze thought about this problem; they all knew that the

octopus it always listening to their plans. Now what? Well since Maze could tell

the other people his plan, he had decided to show them his plan. He drew it on a

piece of white paper, and showed it to the people, he made some moves of how it

was done; they all understood, but the giant octopus didn’t. His plan was the

same, but the giant octopus didn’t know it.

He decided to be careful, but he couldn’t, because the string was

invisible; instead of the string part, Maze changed it into plastic paper; that

way the giant octopus couldn’t see what they were up to; this plan was good, but

let us see how it ends.

Then two men were pulling the plastic, the plastic paper broke; and so

maybe Maze didn’t think it all the way through. He changed a magnificent plan:

First of all, some people distract the giant octopus; and then Maze tied his

legs and arms; and threw him into the ocean, where he was gone and 100 percent

drowned with his legs and arms tied behind his back.

And so Maze saved the day once again, and when his mom and dad returned

home; they were very proud of him. But maze was still sad, his mom and dad

asked; “What is the matter Maze?” “Well, I did save the day Hooray! But I still

didn’t get a chance of relaxing like little children, they were like holidays!”

then his mother and father decided to hold him a holiday celebration, and lived

happily ever after.

The octopus did return, and it was all to his mom the scientist. Maze did

defeat him again and again; until the octopus was tired, he knew that he was not

the guy to beat Maze, so he changed his mind and left the city and gave lived to

Maze’s fans in peace.

The end…

Mr. Cao

Hello!

Today, I would like to recommend a book for you. The name of this book is

"primary school students reading aid Library - folk culture". This book is

about the origin and customs of Chinese festivals. The reason why I like this

book is that when it introduces the calendar of festivals, it always tells a

story about the situation at that time. And each article is extremely vivid,

from which we can not only learn the origin of many customs, but also understand

some unknown history and legend.

My favorite article is called "Chongyang climbing, drinking with dogwood.".

This article is about the origin of the Double Ninth Festival. It is said that

there was a pestilence devil in Zhuangnan of the Han Dynasty, which was

extremely ferocious, and would come out to harm people every September 9. There

is a man named Huanjing in Zhuangnan county. Because Huanjings parents died in

the hands of the pestilence devil, Huanjing wanted to kill the pestilence devil

to avenge his parents. On this day, Huan Jing packed up and went to practice

magic arts with the famous immortal Fei Changfang, hoping to kill the evil

devil. After a long journey, Huan Jing finally found the immortal Fei Changfang.

However, things have not been smooth. After Huan Jing explained his intention,

Fei Changfang refused Huan Jings request. So Huan Jing knelt outside Fei

Changfang for two days and two nights. At last, Fei Changfang was moved by Huan

Jings sincerity and accepted him as an apprentice and taught him various

skills. On the ninth day of September the next year, Fei Changfang reckoned that

the pestilence would enter the southern city again and harm people. He ordered

Huan Jing to give him some dogwood leaves and chrysanthemum wine and send him

back to zhuangnang city. When Huan Jing arrived in Zhuangnan, he took the people

to the mountain, and let everyone drink chrysanthemum wine, and filled the

mountain with Cornus. After that, Huan Jing stood in front of the mountain with

a knife. After a while, the pestilence came as expected. It wanted to go up the

mountain and eat people. Huan Jing stopped him, so they fought together. The

smell of Cornus and dogwood is not stable for a few rounds. He raised a knife

from the mountain. The plague devil was removed, and the people in Nancheng

finally lived a comfortable life. Since then, in order to commemorate September

9, people have designated September 9 as the Double Ninth Festival. On this day,

people will climb high with their families, fill the mountains with Cornus and

drink chrysanthemum wine to pray for themselves and their families. This is the

origin of the Double Ninth Festival on September 9.

I like this legend best, because I think Huanjings persistence and bravery

are worth learning.

Finally, I hope you can enjoy this story. When you are free, you may as

well read this book with me.
