Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also called the "Yuanxiao Festival."Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan. It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar

pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning reunion. So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the family.

In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and beating drums while dancing will be staged. On the night, except for magnificent lanterns, fireworks form a

beautiful scene. Most families spare some fireworks from the Spring Festival and let them off in the Lantern Festival. Some local governments will even organize a fireworks party. 当南京艺术学院专业考试分数下来，全省第五名的成绩也并没有给我带来喜悦。我还是在学习，在练琴，一丝一毫都不敢懈怠。老师说：你文化课成绩已经不错了，为什么还要搞艺术？同学说：你的小提琴水平早已通过了中国音乐学院8级考试，为什么还要练琴直到深夜呢？我不知道应该如何回答，只知道必须努力，甚至竭尽全力。为了梦想，为了能够步入大学的殿堂。

终于梦想成真了，我热爱艺术，但我更热爱的是汉语言文学。尽管我放弃了艺术，但是曾经为艺术洒下的汗水并没有浪费，因为艺术本来就能够帮助我们更好的理解文学，使文学与艺术相互结合，开出美丽的花，结出幸福的果。

我真诚的希望在老师和同学的帮助下能够把自己在艺术领域的特长在汉语言文学专业上得到发挥。可以有机会为我们专业的发展，学校的发展贡献出自己的一份力量。

Good morning ladies and gentlemen!I am of great hornor to stand here and introduce myself to you .First of all , my chinese name is XX and my english name is XX .I am XX years old. I am open-minded ,quick in thought and very fond of English.In my spare time,I have broad interests like many other youngsters.I like reading books, especially those about XX . My favourite animal is the giant panda. The giant panda or panda is a bear living in central western and south western China. Most pandas live in Sichuan province. They’re among the world’s most adored and protected animals. Pandas are the star attractions in the Beijing Zoo. Experts say that despite their sweet public image, pandas are capable of attacking humans, especially if they feel threatened.
