腊月30下午，爸爸忙着贴春联，我和弟弟忙着帮爸爸抹浆糊，我们在大门中央贴了一个大大的福字，大门两边贴上了喜庆的春联，上联是“银蛇携福气”，下联是“紫燕舞春风”，横批“新春大吉”。我们很快就贴好了春联，看着自己的劳动成果我非常开心。在大门的两旁爸爸还挂起了两个大红灯笼，预示着新的一年里日子越过越红火。

除夕早晨，我穿上新衣服，就和弟弟看爸爸放鞭炮。一阵“噼里啪啦”的声音从我们耳朵里穿过，好像要把祝福送到千家万户，我们开心极了。夜晚，我们吃过晚饭，我就和爸爸、妈妈和姐姐一起观看春节联欢晚会。那精彩的表演让我心情豁然开朗，有相声，有小品还有歌舞……非常好看。

大年初一我刚起床，就发现枕头底下有压岁钱，弟弟也有，我们开心的笑了，然后我们吃完饺子，就去奶奶家拜年，拜完以后，爷爷奶奶，就给我们压岁钱，还把好吃的都拿出来了，给我们吃，我们都非常开心。

我喜欢过年，过年真好!

The Spring Festival is my most favorite festival, because it’s time for

family gathering. And the Spring Festival is a new start of a year. It brings me

hope and courage. On Spring Festival, my parents usually take me back to my

hometown. My hometown is a small town. Many of my relatives move to the larger

cities, but we usually go home when the Spring Festival comes. During the

gathering, we share our lives with others and care about each other. Of course,

big meals are necessary. Families prepare for the big meals together. They all

cook their specialty dishes. Therefore, our meals are always delicious. We often

stay at home for three days and then we leave with others’ wishes. I like the

Spring Festival, because I like family gathering.

Im Alina Li and Im Ben Hedges, and today well be taking you through some of the most important traditions of Chinese new year and historical background. We will look at some of the legends behind Chinese new year and how to celebrate it. Here in the US and Chinese across the world.

The Chinese have specific way to celebrate their new year. If you walk down the street in Chinatown during Chinese New Year, you see a variety of ancient traditions such as red banners, firecrackers and lion dance performances, streets are filled with lively celebration.

However, legend has said that the new year has not always been a time of festivity. An Asian Chinese story told a chilly start to this festive holiday, it begins with an ancient Chinese beast called Nian.

Every New Year Nian would rise from swelling in the sea to ravage Chinese village in livestock and hurting people. The villages soon found out from a wise gray-haired old man that the only way to scare the beast away was to set off firecrackers and light lamps and to hang red banners on each door. As the story goes, this was the beginning of a tradition that would last thousands of years.

So this story leads to the creation of many of other traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year. lets take a look at some of these traditions.

1. 争鸡失羊——比喻贪小失大。

2. 饿虎扑羊——象饥饿的老虎扑向食物一样。比喻动作猛烈而迅速。

3. 羊触藩篱——羊角勾挂在篱笆上。形容既不能进，也不能退。

4. 三阳(羊)开泰——常用以称颂岁首或寓意吉祥。

5. 洋洋(羊羊)得意——形容得意时神气十足的姿态。

6. 喜气洋洋(羊羊)——充满了欢喜的神色或气氛。

14. 羊肠九曲——羊肠：像羊肠一样崎岖曲折的小路。九曲：有许多曲折的地方，指河道曲折。形容崎岖曲折的小径和弯弯曲曲的河道。也指道路的艰难。

15. 卖狗悬羊——犹言挂羊头卖狗肉。意谓名不副实。

16. 饿虎见羊——饥饿的老虎见到一只羊羔。比喻迅猛贪婪

17. 昌歜羊枣——据传周文王嗜昌歜，春秋鲁曾点嗜羊枣。后用以指人所偏好之物。

18. 驱羊战狼——喻以弱击强。

19. 鸟道羊肠——狭险典折的山路。

20. 羊肠鸟道——形容山路狭窄，曲折而险峻。

21. 驱羊攻虎——驱：赶。驱赶羊群去进攻老虎。形容以弱敌强，力量悬殊，必遭覆灭。

22. 如狼牧羊——如同狼放养羊一般。比喻官吏残酷地欺压人民。

23. 羊质虎皮——质：本性。羊虽然披上虎皮，还是见到草就喜欢，碰到豺狼就怕得发抖，它的本性没有变。比喻外表装作强大而实际上很胆小。

24. 饿虎擒羊——像饿急了的老虎捉羊一样。形容动作迅猛。亦作“饿虎吞羊”、“饿虎扑羊”。

25. 虎入羊群——老虎进入羊群。形容强者在肆意欺凌弱者。

26. 羊续悬鱼——羊续，汉时官吏。羊续把生鱼悬于庭。形容为官清廉，拒受贿赂。

27. 亡羊得牛——丢掉羊，得到牛

29. 羊落虎口——羊已被老虎吃到嘴里。比喻落入险境，很难幸免。亦作“羊入虎口”。

34. 牛羊勿践——勿使牛羊践踏。比喻爱护。语出《诗·大雅·行苇》：“敦彼行苇，牛羊勿践履，方苞方体，维叶泥泥。”郑玄笺：“草木方茂盛，以其终将为人用，故周之先王为此爱之，况于人乎?”

35. 顺手牵羊——顺：方便。指顺手把羊牵走。比喻顺便利用可乘之机施展手法或手腕。

36. 虎荡羊群——老虎冲进羊群中。比喻以强凌弱，为所欲为。同“虎入羊群”。
