在人类历史发展的长河中，有许多名人很重视环境。英国的诗人拜伦曾说过 ：“我不是不爱人类，而是更爱大自然。”法国蒙台涅也说：“我们已经背弃了大自然，她曾那样准确地为我们指路，而我们却想用她的教导来教训她。”这些名人所说的话让我们明白保护环境是多么重要。

我不禁想起了美国的草坪文化。草坪给美国人创造了美好的生活环境，亦带来了难以估量的好处。人们可以充分分享大自然的恩赐，不仅空气清新，而且也调节了气温，给人们恬静、安详的感受。美国人重视草坪已成为传统，甚至已发展成为一种文化现象。与草坪文化共存的是美国人良好的社会公德意识。特别是假日人们多在草坪上散步、玩球中、聚餐和进行各种娱乐活动，其舒适、幽雅之氛是室内活动所无法企及的。我们也应像美国人一样，爱护草坪，重视环境。

反之，大地给予所有人的是物质的精华，而最后，它从人们那里得到的回报是物质性的垃圾。1991年，一支登山队在攀登珠穆朗玛峰时遇到了大雪。令他们惊奇的是，天上飘下的黑色雪花纷纷扬扬，使大地和天空笼罩在阴霾中。引起这场黑雪的原因是1990年爆发的海湾战争，给环境带来了深重的灾难，由于环境污染造成的损失远远超过战争的直接经济损失。从这件故事中，我们深深地了解这场灾难造成了很大损失，我们要让世界变得美丽，一定要爱护环境，不能再破坏了。
