My home town is a beautiful place. It stands beside a wide river and is rich in fish and rice.

But in the old days it was a poor and backward little town. Many people had no work. They lived a hard life.

In 1949 my hometown was liberated. Since then great changes have taken place there. The streets have been widened. Factories， schools， hospitals， cinemas and theatres have sprung up one after another. The life of the people is greatly improved.

I love my hometown. All the more I love its people. They are working hard so as to make it still richer and more beautiful.

My favourite great book is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.

Tom Sawyer is a lively and clever boy. He lives with his aunt Polly. His

aunt is strict with him, so he runs to an island in the middle of the

Mississippi River with two friends, Huck and Joe. With Huck, he goes looking for

treasure; with Becky, he gets lost in a cave. And finally Tom and Huck find a

box of gold. Tom is the hero of the story, but there are other important

The theme of the story is to do with children growing up and becoming more

Throughout history man has changed his physical environment in order to improve his way of life. With the tools of technology he has altered many physical features of the earth. He has transformed woodlands and prairies into farms and made lakes and reservoirs out of rivers for irrigation purposes or hydroelectric power. Man has also modified the face of the earth by draining marshes and cutting through mountains to build roads and railways.

However, mans changes to the physical environment have not always had beneficial results. Today, pollution of the air and water is an increasing danger to the health of the planet. Each day thousands of tons of gases come out of the exhausts of motor vehicles. Smoke from factories pollutes the air of industrialized areas and the surrounding areas of the countryside. Now environmental protection is more pressing than ever before. As we know, massive destruction of environment has brought about negative effects and even poses a great threat to mans existence. graffiti has become more noticeable in my college. I feel quite annoyed at them,

especially when some of my classmates praise them as a kind of so-called art.

Confronted with this impolite phenomenon, I cant help asking myself: what is

wrong with todays teenagers?

my opinion, graffiti is a form of vandalism. They are a mess and are ugly to

look at. Meanwhile, walls are public places, and they should not be used to

express personal views and feelings.

really think vandalism should be stopped, and those who refuse to stop this bad

practice should be punished. We should clear away these ugly expressions and

drawings so that our college may return to its true self--a clean, quiet place

There are various kinds of jobs in the world, but different people are

attracted by different jobs because everyone has his own interest and

destination. Many people consider an ideal job as a means of making more money

and living more comfortably. It may sound reasonable because money is the

foundation of life.

As far as my ideal job is concerned, I think I want to be a psychologist, I

have made up my mind to do what I really want to so that I can realize my ideal,
