雾霾有数百种大气化学颗粒物质组成。其中就包含：有机溶胶粒子、燃料和汽车废气等。它可以直接进入并粘附在人体呼吸道和肺泡中，引起急性鼻炎和急性支气管炎。对于阻塞性肺气肿、支气管哮喘等患者，雾霾天气会使病情急性发作。如果长期处于这种环境，还会诱发癌。
