Will Tourism Bring Harm to the Environment?

Tourism has developed by leaps and bounds in the past decades in the whole world. Therefore, the issue of whether the tourism will bring harm to the environment is becoming a matter of concern. As for me, I hold that the tourism does more harm than good to the world.

In the first place, the more places we travel to , the more pressure will be added to the environment. In sum , although tourism is playing an indispensable role in the society , I still believe that we`d better try to limit its speed according to the harm that brings to the environment.

由于人口的增加和人类生产活动的规模越来越大，向大气释放的二氧化碳(CO2)、甲烷(CH4)、一氧化二氮(N2O)、氯氟碳化合物(CFC)、四氯化碳(CCl4)、一氧化碳(CO)等温室气体不断增加，导致大气的组成发生变化。大气质量受到影响，气候有逐渐变暖的趋势。由于全球气候变暖，将会对全球产生各种不同的影响，较高的温度可使极地冰川融化，海平面每10年将升高6厘米，因而将使一些海岸地区被淹没。全球变暖也可能影响到降雨和大气环流的变化，使气候反常，易造成旱涝灾害，这些都可能导致生态系统发生变化和破坏，全球气候变化将对人类生活产生一系列重大影响。

(二)臭氧层的耗损与破坏

在离地球表面10~50千米的大气平流层中集中了地球上90%的臭氧气体，在离地面25千米处臭氧浓度最大，形成了厚度约为3毫米的臭氧集中层，称为臭氧层。它能吸收太阳的紫外线，以保护地球上的生命免遭过量紫外线的伤害，并将能量贮存在上层大气，起到调节气候的作用。但臭氧层是一个很脆弱的大气层，如果进入一些破坏臭氧的气体，它们就会和臭氧发生化学作用，臭氧层就会遭到破坏。臭氧层被破坏，将使地面受到紫外线辐射的强度增加，给地球上的生命带来很大的危害。研究表明，紫外线辐射能破坏生物蛋白质和基因物质脱氧核糖核酸，造成细胞死亡;使人类皮肤癌发病率增高;伤害眼睛，导致白内障而使眼睛失明;抑制植物如大豆、瓜类、蔬菜等的生长，并穿透10米深的水层，杀死浮游生物和微生物，从而危及水中生物的食物链和自由氧的来源，影响生态平衡和水体的自净能力。

(三)生物多样性减少

《生物多样性公约》指出，生物多样性“是指所有来源的形形色色的生物体，这些来源包括陆地、海洋和其他水生生态系统及其所构成的生态综合体;它包括物种内部、物种之间和生态系统的多样性。”在漫长的生物进化过程中会产生一些新的物种，同时，随着生态环境条件的变化，也会使一些物种消失。所以说，生物多样性是在不断变化的。近百年来，由于人口的急剧增加和人类对资源的不合理开发，加之环境污染等原因，地球上的各种生物及其生态系统受到了极大的冲击，生物多样性也受到了很大的损害。有关学者估计，世界上每年至少有5万种生物物种灭绝，平均每天灭绝的物种达140个，估计到21世纪初，全世界野生生物的损失可达其总数的15%~30%。在中国，由于人口增长和经济发展的压力，对生物资源的不合理利用和破坏，生物多样性所遭受的损失也非常严重，大约已有200个物种已经灭绝;估计约有5000种植物在近年内已处于濒危状态，这些约占中国高等植物总数的20%;大约还有398种脊椎动物也处在濒危状态，约占中国脊椎动物总数的7.7%左右。因此，保护和拯救生物多样性以及这些生物赖以生存的生活条件，同样是摆在我们面前的重要任务。

(四)酸雨蔓延

酸雨是指大气降水中酸碱度(PH值)低于5.6的雨、雪或其他形式的降水。这是大气污染的一种表现。 酸雨对人类环境的影响是多方面的。酸雨降落到河流、湖泊中，会妨碍水中鱼、虾的成长，以致鱼虾减少或绝迹;酸雨还导致土壤酸化，破坏土壤的营养，使土壤贫瘠化，危害植物的生长，造成作物减产，危害森林的生长。此外，酸雨还腐蚀建筑材料，有关资料说明，近十几年来，酸雨地区的一些古迹特别是石刻、石雕或铜塑像的损坏超过以往百年以上，甚至千年以上。世界目前已有三大酸雨区。我国华南酸雨区是唯一尚未治理的。

(五)森林锐减

在今天的地球上，我们的绿色屏障——森林正以平均每年4000平方公里的速度消失。森林的减少使其涵养水源的功能受到破坏，造成了物种的减少和水土流失，对二氧化碳的吸收减少进而又加剧了温室效应。

(六)土地荒漠化

全球陆地面积占60%，其中沙漠和沙漠化面积29%。每年有600万公顷的土地变成沙漠。经济损失每年423亿美元。全球共有干旱、半干旱土地50亿公顷，其中33亿遭到荒漠化威胁。致使每年有600万公顷的农田、900万公顷的牧区失去生产力。人类文明的摇篮底格里斯河、幼发拉底河流域，已由沃土变成荒漠。中国的黄河流域，水土流失亦十分严重。

(七)大气污染

大气污染的主要因子为悬浮颗粒物、一氧化碳、臭氧、二氧化碳、氮氧化物、铅等。大气污染导致每年有30-70万人因烟尘污染提前死亡，2500万的儿童患慢性喉炎，400-700万的农村妇女儿童受害。

(八)水污染

水是我们日常最需要，也上接触最多的物质之一，然而就是水如今也成了危险品。

(九)海洋污染

人类活动使近海区的氮和磷增加50%-200%;过量营养物导致沿海藻类大量生长;波罗的海、北海、黑海、东中国海(东海)等出现赤潮。海洋污染导致赤潮频繁发生，破坏了红树林、珊瑚礁、海草，使近海鱼虾锐减，渔业损失惨重。

(十)危险性废物越境转移

危险性废物是指除放射性废物以外，具有化学活性或毒性、爆炸性、腐蚀性和其他对人类生存环境存在有害特性的废物。美国在资源保护与回收法中规定，所谓危险废物是指一种固体废物和几种固体的混合物，因其数量和浓度较高，可能造成或导致人类死亡，或引起严重的难以治愈疾病或致残的废物。

1、比利时马斯河谷事件：1930年12月，比利时马斯河谷工业区，排放的工业有害气体和粉尘对人体造成重大影响，一周内近60人死亡，市民中得心脏病、肺病死亡率增高，家畜死亡率也大大增高。

2、美国洛杉矶烟雾事件：20世纪40年代美国洛杉矶的大量汽车废气在紫外线的照射下产生光化学烟雾，造成许多人的眼睛红肿、咽炎、呼吸道疾病恶化及思维紊乱。

3、美国多诺拉事件：1984年10月，美国宾夕法尼亚州多诺拉镇的二氧化硫及其氧化物，与大气粉尘结合，使大气严重污染，5911造成人暴病。

4、英国伦敦烟雾事件：1952年12月，英国伦敦由于冬季燃煤引起的煤烟性烟雾，导致4天时间内4000多人死亡，两个月后又有8000多人死亡。

5、日本水俣病事件：1953年至1968年，日本熊本县水俣湾，由于人们食用了含汞污水污染的海湾中的鱼虾，造成近万人中枢神经疾病 ，其中甲基汞中毒患者283人中有60余人死亡。

6、日本四日市废气事件：1961年，日本四日市由于石油冶炼和工业燃油产生的废气，严重污染大气，引起居民呼吸道疾病骤增，尤其是哮喘病的发病率大大提高 ，形成了一种突出的环境问题。

7、日本富山的痛痛病事件：1955年至1977年，生活在日本富山的人们，因为饮用了含镉的河水和食用了含镉的大米，以及其他含镉的食物引起痛痛病，就诊患者258人，其中死亡者达207人。

8、日本的爱知粮油事件：1963年3月，在日本的爱知县一带，由于对生产米糠油的管理不善，造成多氯联苯污染物混入米糠油，人们 食用了这种被污染的油之后，造成13000多人中毒，数十万只鸡死亡的严重污染事件。

As an engineering student majoring in environmental systems, I have strong awareness of the environment and want to work in the field of environmental protection. There are three feasible ways, in my opinion, which can raise public awareness of our surrounding environment. Firstly, the appropriate education in schools can be applied to build our concept on the importance of environment and it should be taken good care. Secondly, more and more green or environmental promotions should be carried out. For example, use public transportation more frequently instead of private vehicles; print double-sided instead of one-sided to save papers. 一个人不能离开水、空气、阳光、树木等等，这些资源一旦缺少，就会给人类的生存和发展带来威胁。树木能为人类挡风沙，绿化环境，制造二氧化碳，而近年来人类乱砍滥伐，使有些长距离传输型的大型沙尘暴影响了中国的中东部地区，还北移到了东北部的沈阳地区。每年的三至五月份，随着东亚的风向东南方向移动，给中国乃至日本、韩国等东亚国家造成沙尘暴、扬沙、风尘等恶劣气候。如果没有了树木，唯一能让人类生存的地球将会永远告别绿色，将永远披上枯燥的黄色外衣。在2004年巨大沙尘暴的产生让人类认识到了自然灾害的可怕，使人类把自然环境保护放在了第一位。那么，沙尘暴是怎样产生的呢？大风、不稳定气流和丰富的沙尘源是形成沙尘暴三个不可缺少的因素，树可以抵挡大风，固定沙尘源，所以人类不能缺少树木。

据统计，一亩树林一年可以吸收灰尘20—60吨；每天能吸收67公斤二氧化碳，释放49公斤氧气，足可供65个成年人呼吸；一亩树林一个月可以吸收有毒气体——二氧化硫千公斤；一亩松柏一昼夜能分泌出2公斤杀菌素，可杀死肺结核、伤寒、百喉、痢疾等疾病的病苗。这样就能净化空气，保障人们的身心健康。植树造林还能减少噪音，美化环境，保持生态平衡；为人们提供理想的学习、工作、娱乐和生活的环境。在意识到树木不可缺少这一点以后，人类开始种植树木：自1981年12月以来，中国全民义务植树累计超过350亿株。中国正在实施“三北”和长江中下游地区重点防护林建设、退耕还林还草、野生动植物保护及自然保护区建设、天然林保护等六大林业重点工程。至2000年底，中国的森林覆盖率已达16。55%，城市建城区人均公共绿地提高到6。52平方米，全国自然保护区总面积超过1亿公顷。据中国气象部门记录，20世纪50年代中国仅发生过5次强沙尘暴，进入90年代，则发生了23次。沙尘天气给中国社会经济造成了巨大的损失。环境污染使人类意识到环境保护的重要性。人类文明，无论在那一个发展阶段还是在整个的历史长河中，都是始终受制于人类对自然界的认识程度。当我们从这个意义上重新打量人类文明的功过时，我们便没有足够的信心来赞美今天的人类文明了，至少我们不能盲目地加以赞美。因为，直到目前，我们对自然界地认识还十分有限。可以确定无疑的是，人类只是大自然中的一员，人类的一切危害自然行为最终都将受自然的惩罚。因而，我们就不得不对当今的人类文明进行全面的检讨，也不得不对未来的人类文明深怀忧虑。

面对日益恶化的地球生态环境，人类至今都不肯放弃局部的利益，使自己的欲望日益膨胀。而人类欲望越强烈，对生态环境的、破坏也就越严重。 人类文明是地球生物圈里光照四方的伟大奇迹，它能否永久的延续下去，并不断达到新的文明高度，以致照耀久远未来的地球子民，它的命运就掌握在人类自己的手里。人类！醒悟吧！请珍惜我们赖以生存的地球，请真正做到“美丽环境——健康人类——文明发展”。

那是在我上小学三年级的时候，我已经是个懂得保护环境的孩子。有一天，我和妈妈去逛街，猛然间我发现了一个大哥哥手里拿着一大堆零食，吃完就把包装纸往外扔，丝毫没有注意到距离他身旁一米的垃圾桶。我的潜意识告诉我，要制止哥哥乱丢垃圾！于是我冲上前去，捡起一个包装纸，像书里的故事那样对着前面的哥哥喊着：“哥哥，你的垃圾掉了！”那位哥哥根本没有理会我的话，而是继续向前走去。我把垃圾丢到空空如也的的垃圾桶后骂道：“哼！现在的人，太没公德心了！”的确，21世纪的人就是那样自私自利。

还好，认识到环境污染严重的还不止我一个，身边还有许多热爱环境，保护环境的人。有一次，我在街头看到了一群身穿黄色衣服的哥哥姐姐们，他们的衣服上还有一个显眼的标题：保护环境，人人有责！这时他们正在街道上穿梭，捡着路上的垃圾。他们的背影，深深的刻在了我的心中。而那显眼的黄色和标题吸引了许多路人，他们也情不自禁地行动起来，看着一群群穿梭在人群中的“环保志愿者”我仿佛也心动了……

保护环境的大事，并不是所有人都可以知道，可以去做的，但是，身边的种种小事，却是触手可及的，是任何人都可以去做的。如果只有一个人来保护环境的话，那么这种杯水车薪力量是远远不够的，我们必须要齐心协力，共同来保护地球的环境，那样地球才能恢复原来的面貌。我希望每个人都能行动起来，保护环境，从小事做起，比如：看到垃圾拣起来、不乱扔白色塑料袋、种植小树……如果人人都能保护环境，那么我们的祖国将会变的更美丽，空气更清新。
