The tomb sweeping day is one of the traditional festivals in China. On

April 5th, people start to visit their ancestors’ tombs. Generally speaking,

people will bring the home-made food, some fake money and paper-made mansion to

their ancestors. When they start to honour their ancestor, they will light up

some candles and incense, put some flowers around the tombs. The most important

thing is to put the home-made food in front of the tombs. The food, also known

as sacrifices, is usually made up with a chicken, a fish and some pork. It’s a

symbol of the offspring’s respect to the ancestors. People believe that the

forbears will share the food with them. The children dedicate the food and money

to their forbears in order to show their love and caring. The young offspring

will go down on their knees and pray for their ancestors. They can say their

wishes in front of the tombs and the ancestors will make their dreams come

true.

In some provinces of China, people use different activities to commemorate

this day, for instance, spring-outing, swinging, tree planting and making

special food. One special food is Ay Tsao rice balls. It looks like Tang-yuan,

but its colour is green. Mix the ay tsao juice with the rice powder, then make

it into small balls. The Ay Tsao rice ball is done. People believe that eating

ay tsao rice balls can get rid of the bad luck and everything will go smoothly.

Other activities such as spring outing, tree planting are the other ways to

commemorate the forbears. For one thing, it is a sign that people should look

into the future and embrace the hope; for another thing, we do hope our ancestor

rest in peace.

Every body wants to succeed. But when it comes to the question that which

factor leads to success, opportunity or hard-work, different people will offer

different answers.

Some people think that opportunity is the first factor leading to success.

They hold the idea, as a proverb saying, “Man proposes, god disposes”. Because

almost all successful people have good luck and have caught their valuable

opportunities, they believe that opportunity is a leading condition of the

success. If seizes and makes the best use of opportunity available, one can

succeed surely. In summary, to them, chances and lucks play the most important

role on the road to success.

However, others maintain that “no pains, no gains” .Without exerting

在一个瓜果飘香的秋季，我们告别了母校，迎来了初中的生活。而初中生活的第一课就是军训。

军训这一课是磨炼意志和思想的一课，从站军姿到齐步走，跑步走，都给了我们人生的启示和感想。

第一天我们就学习了站军姿，抬头挺胸，双手紧贴裤缝线，两脚的脚后跟并拢，脚尖分开60度角。一开始我们很兴奋，自然做的也很认真，很正确。可过了一会儿，虽说太阳不太大，但是我们还是一个个动来动去，扭来扭去，像一个个小蚯蚓。教官见我们“新官上任三把火”就赶紧喊起了口令，让我们站好，不许动。站了10分钟的军姿，我们个个都腰酸腿疼，就更别说说话了，有的同学不顾三七二十一一屁股坐了下来，有的同学像豹子一样跑去喝水。一天下来，我们的军姿也站的差不多了，也便一次站的比一次轻松，回家也迫不及待的展示给父母看，仿佛我们都是一个个小军人。

后来我们又学习了稍息立正，停止间转法，齐步走，跑步走……5天我们学习了很多东西，似乎我们真的成了一名既能做好训练，又能守纪律的军人。时间如流水般流去，五天的军训转眼就成了回忆。我们要和与我们一起训练的教官分别了，心里充满了不舍。军训很辛苦，辛苦得有收获，辛苦得有意义，辛苦得让人难忘。难忘我们军训时的挥汗如雨，难忘训练时严厉的教官和我们开玩笑时的样子，难忘在最后一天会操时我们的卖力表演，最后依依不舍的分别。

可是我们终于成功的完成了5天的军训，过的快乐而又充实。军训告诉我们：世上无难事，只怕有心人，只要认真对待困难，我们就永远不会倒下。

I am a December 2003 graduate from the University of San Francisco (USF) with a bachelors degree in International Business. As part of my career planning, I am very interested in supplementing my international business education with a basic knowledge of the Chinese language. This I hope will help me enter into business commerce with business organizations partnering with Chinas economic development.

I already have information from BLCU and hope to study there for at least one full year starting with this summers program continuing through the fall and spring semester 2006. Can your office advise me if such scholarships might be available to me?

I have been studying Chinese for one year now. I am not sure what level I belong to. I was told that there will be an HSK test in our university in September. I am planning to attend the test. But I dont know if the result of the test is recognized by your university. If so, can it be a help for me to apply for the scholarship?

The joyous Mid-Autumn Festival was celebrated on the fifteenth day of the

eighth moon, around the time of the autumn equinox(秋分). Many referred to it

simply as the "Fifteenth of the Eighth Moon".

This day was also considered as a harvest festival since fruits, vegetables

and grain had been harvested by this time and food was abundant. Food offerings

were placed on an altar set up in the courtyard. Apples, pears, peaches, grapes,

pomegranates(石榴), melons, oranges and pomelos(柚子) might be seen. Special foods

for the festival included moon cakes, cooked taro(芋头)and water caltrope(菱角), a

type of water chestnut resembling black buffalo horns. Some people insisted that

cooked taro be included because at the time of creation, taro was the first food

discovered at night in the moonlight. Of all these foods, it could not be

omitted from the Mid-Autumn Festival.

那天阳光明媚，伴随着阳光我们踏上了征程。刚开始挺high的，毕竟从未有过此类经历，然而，才走了十几里路就没有了之前的那种兴奋劲。步子迈得越来越小，每一步都很沉重。脚也不看重任，每走一步都伴随着疼痛。随着时光的流逝，汗的挥洒，我们在车辆不多的路上一步一步的艰难地走着。此刻真的有放弃的冲动。但我没有放弃，因为我相信自己能行。几十里路算什么?正是因有了这次远足，才让我活的磨练意志的好机会，我怎能轻言放弃?心里这样想的，行动上也是这么做的。于是背着包跑了起来，好舒服!

在此之前，我从未觉得走路是这么辛苦的事情。虽然我们每天都在走，但从未因走路而觉得累。也许是从来没有走过这么长的路就不知道艰辛，所以认为没问题，不就是几个小时的事吗?

来回的欢笑与疼痛不必多说。通过这次活动让我感触很多。或许，对于我们来说，没尝试过就认为它很简单。然而，但当我们真正去做事才发现它并非易事。古人云：“每一个成功者的背后都有着无数的汗水和泪水。”

她左手拿着簸箕，右手拿着扫帚，认真而又耐心的扫着。只见她把这片赃物扫起来，又把那片赃物扫起来，这样的动作也不知道要重复多少遍。再瞧，她的双手配合的多么默契呀!要是簸箕满了，就小心翼翼地倒进垃圾车里，生怕把刚刚扫赶净的地又弄脏了。倒完了，就又开始扫了。我从她的眼睛里看到，她是多么希望大家不再乱扔赃物，保持道路昔日的干净。这时，大风吹来，把道路又吹脏了。这位清洁工无奈的说：“唉，真没办法，我又要重新扫了。”接着，又振起精神说：“没关系，我一定能扫完的!”说完又开始扫了，这回，她先把垃圾扫在了一起，又拿簸箕把垃圾扫进簸箕里。满了就用扫帚挡住口，不让垃圾掉下来，再到进垃圾车里。我想：这样能够节约多点时间，把垃圾扫完。想着想着，清洁工就把这些垃圾扫完了。我不犹自住地走进他，笑盈盈地说：“您真好!我要向您学习那种默默奉献的精神!”清洁工听了，眼睛笑眯眯的。

这就是我最敬佩的人。一个每天起早贪黑、默默奉献的一个人。难道这个人的品格不值得我去学习吗?

清明节是我国的传统节日，时间是从4月4日至4月6日。 Qingming Festival is a traditional festival in my country, from April 4 to April 6.

现在，让我来给你介绍一下清明节的传说吧!古时候，晋公子重耳流亡在外，中途饥饿得晕倒了，介子推把他大腿上的肉割了下来，煮成了肉汤，给晋公子吃，救了晋公子重耳。后来晋文公成为了王，却忘记了介子推。他想起来了，但是介子推也已经带着母亲隐居在绵山中了。

晋文公在山上放火，逼介子推出来，火烧了三天三夜，山里一点儿动静也没有，于是晋文公发觉要去深山中看看，原来介子推和其母已经死在了山中，晋文公想让介子推做官，可他却已经死了。这一天就是清明节，第二年这一日，晋文公去祭奠介子推，看到了一棵死去的柳树，上面写着血诗：割肉奉君尽丹心，但愿主公常清明。又一年，老柳树竟死而复生，柳树的生命力十分顽强不屈，因此，清明节这一天要禁火，吃凉的食品，插柳枝，还要纪念介子推。

这就是清明节的传说与习俗，可让我丰富了不少知识呀!大开眼界!

Cell phone seems to be one of the most important inventions of 20 century.

Using cell phones to surf the Internet has become quite common in our daily

lives. Cell phone has exceeded its original function such as making phones calls

or sending message. Its multi-functions have make people’s tedious lives more

colorful. Many people, especially the young generation, have found that they can

not live without their cell phones. Many people feel uncomfortable in absence of

their cell phones. This may become a symptom called cell phone dependency.

First, many people have addicted to cell phones, they spend considerable

time and money on the phone, for it provide with numerous games and

applications. Some of them even use cell phones as computers that they keep the

phone open for all day long. As to some students, some of them even use the

phones to play games in the class, when they should focus on their study

instead. In this case, parents and teachers should limit the time that children

spending on the cell phones, for its have more disadvantages than

advantages.

Second, the dependency on cell phones has shown people’s anxiety towards to

their social interrelationship. A day without cell phone just feels like getting

lost in this big world. Every day, people tend to check their cell phones to see

if they have got any messages or surf the Internet, but the cell phone truly

affects their normal life.

There is no denying that cell phones have brought us considerable

convenient. However, we should be aware of the negative effects that cell phones

渐渐地到了晚上8点，09年的春节联欢晚会将要开始了。我们就便各自回家，坐在电视机旁津津有味地看着那精彩的节目。最精彩的要属刘谦的魔术了。他尽然可以把硬币从手中变到封闭的水杯中；更精彩的是，居然可以把戒指从手中变到完整的鸡蛋中，太不可思议了。随着欢声笑语，嘻嘻闹闹，不知不觉的晚会已接近尾声，

十二点的钟声敲响了。所有的大街小巷，都放起了鞭炮来。“嗵啪”又是两声“天地响”现在可热闹了。响亮的，清脆的声音，还有那闪闪烟花激起了我们小孩子的兴趣。于是我们又拿着我们心爱的烟花玩了起来。“噼噼啪啪”多么悦耳的鞭炮声啊！估计过了一个小时左右，鞭炮声渐渐减弱了。

我们也都陆续地回家了，我一看手机，已经1点半了，然而却没有一点睡意。我站在窗前向外望去，啊！大街小巷灯火通明，要照平时来看早已是夜深人静了，这是一个多么不平凡的夜晚啊，一年才有一次，我永远不会忘记。

I have got a problem and I need to ask for your help. I feel I am a little too fat. What’s worse,I am putting on weight all the time. I am very worried about my figure and how I look. I even fear that some of my classmates call me names.

At one time, I tried to work out in a gym two or three times, but I finally gave up just because I had no time for it and always felt very tired after doing exercise. Once I tried going on a diet. However, after about a week, I could not go on because I felt so hungry that I was not able to continue my studies. Then I bought and took weight-loss pills in secret. Shortly after, they did work and I was losing weight fast. But soon I felt tired and weak sometimes.

I know those pills usually have bad effects on our health. Thus, I don’t know what I should do. Could you be kind enough to give some good advice.

Water is very important to us. If you don’t have water for three days, you will die. We can use water for flowers, swimming, washing and many different things. We use it to cook, make electricity, and put out fires and so on. We use millions of liters of water every day.

Do you know how does the water come to your home? It travels through water pipes. Some are long and wide but some are short and narrow. Then the water travels through the water pipes to the reservoirs. Then it travels through the water pipes to the river and to the special factories that purify the water. When the water is purified, we can drink it. Please don’t leave garbage in the water on which we line, and keep the water clean.

四月二日上午，正值清明节前夕，学校组织同学们到陵园扫墓。我怀着沉重的心情站到队伍里，没有人嬉皮笑脸，也没有人大声喧哗，队伍是庄严的、是安静的。随着校长一声令下，同学们浩浩荡荡地出发了。 On the morning of April 2nd, the school organized students to sweep the tomb on the cemetery.I stood in the team with a heavy mood. No one smiled hippie, and no one made a loud noise. The team was solemn and quiet.With the principals order, the students set off.

“清明时节雨纷纷，路上行人欲断魂”。天阴沉沉的，空中飘着蒙蒙细雨，空气凉丝丝的，好像春雨给小城披上了一层薄薄的白纱。走了十几分钟，雨水打湿了我的衣服，浑身凉飕飕的。离陵园还有几里路，但同学们依然精神抖擞，迈着大步往前走。我有点累，边走边给自己打气：“红军为了革命胜利，走完了两万五千里长征也没有喊苦叫累，难道走这十几里路，我也坚持不下去吗?我一定要到陵园为烈士们清扫墓地，以慰他们的在天之灵。”又走了十来分钟，我们终于来到了鸡泽县烈士陵园。

陵园里，参加祭扫仪式的各界人士已经都已经到来。园内到处回荡着哀乐，大家静得出奇，少了以往的喧闹。上午9:00，祭扫仪式正式开始，向烈士敬献花圈、默哀敬礼、青年代表宣誓、领导发言、扫墓等活动一一有序进行。默哀敬礼时，我们的心情凝重，眼里好像有一层雾，看什么都模模糊糊、隐隐约约的。我站在队伍里，静静地呼吸着每一口空气，轻轻闭上眼睛，好像能听到同学们心跳声。大家垂着头，向烈士们默哀致敬，鞠躬、鞠躬、再鞠躬，眼睛渐渐湿润了。

最后扫墓时，我和同学们来到后院，一座座石墓呈现在眼前，一个个石碑矗立在墓前，我们看到只有个别墓上有烈士的姓名，其他的全是无名墓，想着一位位为国捐躯的的革命先烈竟然连名字也没留下，我的心一阵阵发疼。我认真地打扫着，感受着咫尺之隔的英灵，仿佛看到了当年中华儿女们，为了新中国建立，不顾危险，与敌人顽强战斗的场面，仿佛听到了那战争中阵阵响亮的号角声，仿佛闻到了与敌人战斗的硝烟味儿。

近一百年来，许多外国侵略者妄想吞了中国这块“肥肉”，但坚强的中华儿女没有让它们得逞，誓死保卫国家，将鲜血泼洒在了中国的这片热土上，用自己的鲜血和生命换来了祖国的和平与安宁。几十年后的今天，他们永远地沉睡在了地下，但他们的力量一直鼓舞着我们前进——不忘国耻，振兴中华!

扫墓仪式结束了，我的心却没平静下来。前辈们的英勇事迹和艰难历程，让我体会到了今天幸福生活的来之不易。我深深感到，作为接班人的我们更应该珍惜今天的美好生活，努力学习，奋发向上，把祖国建设得更加富强、辉煌!

先烈们与世长辞了，可他们永垂不朽!
