In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology (NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. This was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future research interests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research (especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network research, Hybrid system performance analysis with Petri nets and Data Mining.

Hello ！welcome to the special Chinese new years edition of discovering China. Im Alina Li and Im Ben Hedges, and today well be taking you through some of the most important traditions of Chinese new year and historical background. We will look at some of the legends behind Chinese new year and how to celebrate it. Here in the US and Chinese across the world.

The Chinese have specific way to celebrate their new year. If you walk down the street in Chinatown during Chinese New Year, you see a variety of ancient traditions such as red banners, firecrackers and lion dance performances, streets are filled with lively celebration.

However, legend has said that the new year has not always been a time of festivity. An Asian Chinese story told a chilly start to this festive holiday, it begins with an ancient Chinese beast called Nian.

Every New Year Nian would rise from swelling in the sea to ravage Chinese village in livestock and hurting people. The villages soon found out from a wise gray-haired old man that the only way to scare the beast away was to set off firecrackers and light lamps and to hang red banners on each door. As the story goes, this was the beginning of a tradition that would last thousands of years.

So this story leads to the creation of many of other traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year. lets take a look at some of these traditions.

宋陵公园位于市区人民路，原来是北宋皇帝的陵园，现在被开发成一座公园，成了我们休闲健身的好地方。

春天，微风吹拂着刚从土里钻出来的小草，柳丝好像用碧玉装扮的一样，花儿争相开放，有红的、黄的、粉的，美丽极了，小燕子从南方飞回来了，把家安在了古楼的亭台上，大家在草地放风筝，有蝴蝶、蜻蜓，各式各样，好像在天空比美。

夏天，树木茂盛，微风吹来，小草、柳树随风飘动。清早，人们早早来到公园锻炼身体，有的咿咿呀呀经营活动嗓子，有的神情专注打太极拳，有的三五成群地跳舞。太阳落山了，公园里乘凉的人逐渐多了起来。小朋友在草地上追逐打闹、翻跟头，玩得非常开心。远处传来阵阵舞曲，人们的心情舒畅了，忘记了酷暑，忘记了高温。

秋天，树叶有的变黄了，有的变红了，秋风吹拂在脸上，有一丝凉凉的感觉。深秋的夜晚，公园早早恢复了寂静，只有古楼上的铃铛发出叮叮的声响，好像古人正在说着什么，为公园增添了神秘色彩。

冬天阳光下，公园里有好多晒暖的老人和孩子。他们有的坐在石登上，有的站在石像旁边，小孩在石像上爬来爬去，和古羊、古马一起游戏。

这就是宋陵公园，各个季节有着各个季节的快乐，欢迎大家来游玩！

跨进大门，你定会眼前一亮，仿佛走进了大自然的怀抱：看到的，是一派生机勃勃、绿意盎然的景象；听到的，是鸟儿清脆的叫声和淙淙的水声；闻到的，是一股股花草特有的芳香；触到的，是花儿娇嫩的脸庞……

一直向前走，就可以看见一座宝塔形的五层建筑耸立在一个郁郁苍苍的小土坡上，那便是公园的标志性建筑――腾龙阁。登上腾龙阁的最高层放眼望去，新世纪公园的景色尽收眼底：向北远眺，就可以望见一大片郁郁葱葱的树林，一棵棵参天大树肩并肩，手拉手，连成一片绿色的海洋。那明亮的颜色，绿得那么的新鲜，那么富有生命力，让人看了神清气爽，心旷神怡。树林里还时常传出清脆的鸟鸣。风一吹，树叶儿便沙沙作响，像是在为鸟儿伴奏呢！最迷人的，当然是东面那一汪清澈的湖水，它把河边的景色揽入怀中，像是一幅美丽的画卷。湖面静得像一面镜子，绿得像一块碧玉。游船在湖面上缓缓地划过，留下一条条银色弧线，又化作了层层波纹，闪着点点波光向四周散去。

走下腾龙阁，穿过茂密的松树林，踏着松针铺成的金色地毯，就来到了湖边那曲折的长廊――桐乡乡贤碑廊。长廊由一个又一个做工精致的亭子连接而成，亭子上方棕色的梁上悬挂着一盏盏宫灯，宫灯的上下两端各雕刻着四个栩栩如生的龙头，中间雕刻着朵朵精美的祥云。长廊里，一块块花岗岩制成的石板上刻着许多刚劲有力的文字，介绍桐乡近代的文贤，这样的石板竟有20多块，实在令人惊叹。常常可以看到成群的游人驻足观赏，久久不肯离去。
