写作学科发展到今天，已是繁花锦簇，千姿百态，传统写作不断创新，写作边缘学科层出不穷。但万变不离其宗，要写好一篇现代应用文，必须要先了解其主要特点。应用文写作与基础写作相比，主要有以下特点。

(一)主旨单一，明白显露

主旨是指作者的写作动机或称意图。一篇文章不管是叙述事情，或是陈述观点，或是介绍事物，或是抒发感情，都有自己明确的意图。在文学作品中，主旨是指作家对他所描写的社会生活的评价和“客观思想”。应用文表现主旨的禁忌是隐蔽含蓄，模棱两可。这个特点是应用文的性质所决定的，因为应用文是为了解决实际问题而写的，为了解决问题，就要求作者把自己的观点，明确地表达出来，使人一目了然，不产生误解。应用文要求一文一事，即使是较长的应用文，也要求只有一个主旨，我国古代，曾把一文一事，主旨单一，作为一种制度，固定下来。如果一篇应用文有多个主旨就可能使制发机关或撰写者的意图表达不清，达不到写作的目的。因此切忌主旨不清或多主旨。

(二)结构布局，格式固定

结构是指文章内容的组织、安排和布局。它是指文章中整体与局部、部分与部分之间的关系。文学作品为了引人入胜，在叙事、写人、绘景时，往往采用含蓄、隐晦、意会的方法，通过结构形式的变化以引起读者的想象，吸引读者注意。而应用文的结构布局、格式是相对固定的，有固定的写作规范，也有约定俗成的写作习惯。对应用文来说主旨是文章的灵魂，材料是文章的血肉，那么结构就是文章的骨架。人讲究体态美，文章自然也讲究结构美。好的应用文应是“凤头、猪肚、豹尾”，即开头开得漂亮，正文内容充实、材料有份量，结尾结得响亮，结构要求明确清晰，自然和谐。

(三)材料真实，典型集中

应用文写作有很强的实用性。应用文的语言要求平铺直叙，较少使用修饰性词语，笔法较朴实。因为应用文语言是需把握问题实质，直接表现主题，为主题服务，而不像文学作品那样文笔的曲折，主题的含蓄，讲究语言的修饰性、词语的色彩，常用修辞手法，应用文的实用性决定了其语言的简洁朴实。赵大昌在《新编应用文写作》一书中指出“应用文不是以艺术形象感染读者，而是以事实和道理说服读者。它不是以想象、虚构、夸张、抒情等手法反映生活的本质事实，而是以记叙、说明、论述的方法，有针对性地表述思想观点，反映具体的生活实际，揭示社会生活某些方面的规律和实质问题。它不是给人以美的艺术享受，而是用之于解决实际问题。”此段话对于应用文的实用性作了精辟的分析，说明应用文写作的目的在于解决实际问题，推动工作的顺利进行，每一篇应用文都有其具体的制发目的和职能。

(四)语言准确，简明生动

一般文章对语言的要求是准确、鲜明、生动。应用文写作也应该与其他文章一样要准确、鲜明、生动。但是，由于应用文自身的特点，决定了这种文章在运用语言方面也有自己独特的地方，这就是准确性 毕

一、结构的含义和作用

1.掌握结构的含义应用文的结构，是运用材料以表现主题的有序安排，是客观事物条理性在文章中的反映，为文章的组织形式和内部构造。文章的结构具有两重含义：一是宏观结构，即文章的总体构思、大体框架;二是微观结构，即对文章的层次、段落、开头、结尾、过渡、照应和主次的具体设计。

2.了解结构的作用结构好比文章的骨架，是安排文章的具体形式，是将材料化为文章的手段之二。结构是表现主题的手段，是准确表达主题的必由之路，也是引导读者领会文章思想内容的向导。写文章只有找到恰当完美的结构形式，才能把主题和材料组合在一起，形成一个完美有机的整体。其作用具体表现在：

(1)使文章言之有体。应用文大多有较固定的结构形态，它是人们在长期写作实践中经过选择，逐步找到的最适合表现某种内容的最佳形式，也称之为“程式”。如简报、书信和行政公文类文书，具有相当固定的惯用格式。

(2)使文章言之有序。合理安排文章结构，就是根据一定的思路，将零散的材料组织起来，使之眉目清楚地成为一个有机的整体。

(3)使文章言之有文。精心安排文章结构，可以增加文章的文采，从而增强其可读性。

1.了解思路的含义及思路与结构的关系

在文章结构的两重含义中，总体构思是具体设计的前提和基础。总体构思也就是人们常说的“言有序”，是指对材料的安排要有次序，这体现了作者的思路。思路是安排结构的条件。

1、思路的含义

思路是作者思维活动的路线，是作者在头脑中梳理、组织内容材料的过程和结果。它是作者对客观事物自身条理性的观察、理解。

作者思路清晰，结构必然有条不紊;作者思路不清晰，结构必然紊乱。经过选择的材料，只有经过合理的组织安排，使之条理化、系统化，组成一个有机的整体，才能准确鲜明地表现既定的主题。

2、思路与结构的关系

在写作构思阶段，作者的思维活动异常活跃。确立主题，选择好材料，并进而考虑如何表达主题和如何安排材料，由此逐渐形成一条清晰、连贯、独到的思维活动路线——思路。此时，文章的大体框架已在作者的头脑中“闪现”出来。等到作者用书面语言把思路表达出来时，文章的结构也就具体安排好了。因此，作者思路与文章结构的关系极为密切。具体表现为以下三点：
