I began school at seven in accordance with the law in a remote village. Short of funds, the school had only a few classrooms, all poorly constructed.  to say, our teachers were few, too. As a pupil I preferred the playground to the classroom and often liked to play tricks on girls, as by hiding insects in their desk drawers. The happiest moment, to me and to all of my schoolmates, however, was the one when the school was letting out at the last bell of the day and we were rhing home as if we would never be back. Once, on our way home, a bunch of naughty students found a crickets hole and exerted themselves to inject water into it with loud cheers. The girls were  less frantic than the boys when they were having a good time at such games as jump-rope, hopscotch and battledore and shuttlecock.

在朋友家打扰了几天后，我开始住7块钱一天的地下室，在里面住了四天我就受不了了。我想，就算我没钱，我也不应该住在这儿啊。于是我就出去做生意，三个月后赚了不少钱，我就和房东说，我把一年的房租给你，你不要把我赶出去。

我干爹介绍我认识了王路，后来我一直跟着陈晓卿干活。我是幸运的，但中间也有过低潮。毕业第二年，一整年都没有什么活，没有任何收入来源。这种空闲的状态让我焦躁，于是我就养了一条萨摩耶，把它养到通了人性，它会数数，还会叼着放着钱的篮子去买菜，做错了事儿，懂得自己回去罚站。一年后有了《时·光》，然后是《牦牛》、《自然的力量》，从此以后就再没闲下来。那一年我也想过放弃，但最后我还是撑下来了。

结果在高原拍摄时，我的左眼视网膜脱落、穿孔，看什么都东西都是黑的，就一个亮点能透出光来。我就戴了个眼罩，以加勒比海盗的造型继续工作。回来后被医生骂，说你是不是不要眼睛了。我说反正对焦有右眼就行了嘛，医生大怒，说你要是左眼没有了，右眼也会保不住的，赶紧做手术!在手术过程中，我还拿着相机到处跑，想要记录下自己做手术的过程。

我知道我不是一个天才，可我觉得，一个人一生能把一件事做到精通，就说明这个人是成功的。摄影就是我此生想做的这件事，它是我的爱好。而我的幸运之处在于，我不需要用摄影赚钱养活自己，赚钱我可以通过做玉石生意。

我父亲常说，世界上最简单的事情就是赚钱，最难做的就是做人。我赚钱的天赋部分遗传自父亲，但其实我的性格不合适做生意，我的性格太直接了，不喜欢说谎。我谈钱的时候不喜欢谈情感，更不愿意听到“兄弟”二字。但这个社会，还不太合适一个干脆利落的人去做生意。这个倒无关维汉，全世界的生意人嘛，想得都是怎么把别人套进去。

我曾经和一个汉族姑娘谈过恋爱，但最终还是因为文化差异分手了。她可以为了我去信伊斯兰教，可是这样她就会觉得自己为我做了太多，心里总有不平衡。我作为一个男人又不够成熟，不知道该怎样弥补她。最让我感动的是，在这个过程中我的家庭没有反对过我，以我的性格，如果他们反对，这个婚我是结定了。分手时，我爸偷偷对我弟说，他总算是松了一口气。

我觉得就像结婚要门当户对一样，跨民族的婚姻并不是不行，但就是要付出更多的努力才行。我曾经拍摄过一对老夫妻，妻子是上海知青，是佛教徒;丈夫是维吾尔族，是伊斯兰教徒。一个家庭融合了两种宗教，这是伟大的大爱，可我却没能做到。所以呢，我个人对维汉通婚既不反对，也不提倡。
