似乎是等了一个世纪，我跟妈妈最大的一次争吵在暑假晃晃悠悠的尾巴上爆发了。那几天爸爸出差去了，这就完全成了属于两个女人之间的战争。妈妈从要我早点休息开始说起，一路喋喋不休地说到考研的问题，那是八百年以后的事了。因为爸爸不在家，连一个劝架的人都没有，所以那天我们吵得非常厉害。我平时很少见妈妈跟别人吵架，她一动怒就会脸红。妈妈皮肤不白，所以每回吵架她脸上就会有一种奇怪的温和的红晕，那要比害羞的颜色深一点，而且会一直红到脖子根。

其实，有些话我一说出口，就知道过分了，但是吵架是门错位的艺术。永远是你说得对的时候她跟你吼；而她对的时候，你又没道理地乱叫。最后我们都以不理对方作为停止争吵的标志。妈妈吵架时通用的技巧是，结束前她会象征性地让一下步，如果那时我认错了，那么一切相安无事。但我选择了不回应，冷战如期而至。

两个人在家里互相不搭理，这滋味是不好受的。比较简单实际的办法就是煲些什么东西给妈妈吃，就煲个粥吧。这就是我第二天煲粥的全部原因。

我从超市买了红萝卜、茄子、生菜、皮蛋和肉末，忙了整整一个下午，算是煲了锅所谓的皮蛋瘦肉粥。接下来要做的就是端上桌，然后意思一下，道个歉就行了。一直到晚饭前我确实都是这么想的。

妈妈下班回来依旧没有笑容，她没跟我多说一句话。妈妈炒好了菜，我们像平时一样坐下来一起吃饭。这是我们吵架后第一次一起吃饭。没有给对方夹菜，也没有说话，我甚至怀疑我们会这样一直安静地坐到一切结束。我们几乎跟鱼一样不发出任何声音。就这样吃完饭，洗完碗，然后睡觉，然后明天重复今天，然后我回北京，然后一切结束。我觉得自己很傻，莫名其妙地煲了一锅粥，她根本不买账，照样吃她的饭，从不抬头看我一眼。我第一次意识到家里的餐桌这么长，长得离谱，我和妈妈就坐在它的两头，像海豚的两只眼睛，谁也看不到对方。

妈妈起身去厨房盛饭，我才猛然想起那锅粥。绝对不能让她知道还有那锅东西的存在，否则她一定会明白那是道歉的证据，会洋洋自得，而事实上我那时已经完全没那个心情了。

“砂锅里你弄了什么东西，要干什么用的？”妈妈的口气很硬，里面还包含着我不能忍受的优越感——她什么都知道了。

“没什么，中午吃剩的，我自己吃。”我还是嘴硬，但很明显，最后一句是此地无银三百两。

妈妈端着碗从厨房里探出头来，看着我说：“要热一下的。”然后又转过身，之后我就看不到她了，厨房的门挡住了我的视线，我只听见开煤气的声音，一下，两下，煤气灶很久都没点着。

“不用你，我来。”我几乎是跳起来的，感觉妈妈是在向我，好像没有她我就不行一样。

我跳起来冲进厨房，那样子果真是气势汹汹的，可能是妈妈听见了我的话，她正端着碗准备出来。我们就这么一撞，一个要出来，一个要进去。妈妈手里的碗一斜，眼看就要掉地上了。我忙往旁边闪躲，妈妈忙用另一只手挡着，碗没掉下去，软软的米饭被妈妈挡在了怀里。

妈妈挡住了碗没让它往我这边倒，这是她的第一反应：而我，本能地躲开了。我抬起头，妈妈还是没说一句话，她在把粘在身上的米饭一粒粒拿掉。我闻到了一股很好闻的味道，是米饭夹带着妈妈身上的味道，软软香香的。

我突然发觉自己可以很容易地越过她的头顶看到后面厨房的一切。我和妈妈一样高了，那是一种非常奇妙的感觉。我突然站在妈妈的高度去看周围的一切，似乎自己是突然间长高的。那一瞬间，我别的什么都没想，只想马上道歉，为我的毫无道理的发火，为我的顶撞，为我的所有的不对。

但事实上我什么都没说，甚至没挪动一步，而妈妈也就一直低着头捡饭粒。时间像是完全凝固了。安静开始升腾，一直向上升腾，然后变得让人难以忍受。此时只要谁说一句话就足以使死掉一般的安静爆炸。但是没有，谁也没有。我觉得自己像要消失在安静的阴影当中，一直变小，一直变小，最后变得什么也没有。

妈妈是什么时候走出厨房的我都不知道。我一直待在厨房里，等粥端出去的时候，桌上已经摆好了两只空碗……没有谁解释，妈妈就是妈妈，她明白女儿所有的小心思。

夜深了，火车晃啊晃的，周围的人都睡了。坐直身子，一直扭头看窗外的姿势的确让我吃不消。晚上开动的火车会很安静，过道上各类鞋子与地面亲吻的摩擦声带出了纷杂潮湿的旅途意味。口袋里有震动，是妈妈的短信：注意行李，你有两个包，一个箱子，下车时要好好检查，别落下。车票要放在容易取的口袋里，出站时用。粥很好喝，以后可不用放茄子。旅途劳累，好好休息。妈妈发短信不会加标点，所以是全部连在一起的。我费了好大的劲才看明白。

突然想起那天晚上，我和妈妈是在客厅里吵架的，最后她先回了自己的卧室。过了很长时间我还能听到她的脚步声，她的卧室与饭厅只隔一堵墙。她一直没睡。她的脚踩在没有地毯的地板上发出踢踏的响声。那声音一直拉长，一直拉长，然后像变魔术一样从家里的地板绕到现在的火车上，最后在我胸口的地方停了下来，溢出由细线勒裹的密不透风的隐隐疼痛。我很轻地叫了一声，真的很轻，但我自己听得很清楚。我没有后悔那天没有及时向妈妈道歉，好像一下子明白了妈妈。
