I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. And it also showed that Marguerite really loved Armand Duval for she could even change herself for him.

However, happiness didn’t last for long. When M. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. 在我还是个孩子的时候，就养了一只叫做幸运的宠物。其实他是一只猫。他的毛很柔软，是黄色和白色。幸运的是一个好男孩。他总是很听话。我记得当我叔叔带他来到我家的时候，我很怕他。但不久后，我发现他很有趣。我开始和他玩。随着时间的推移，我们都互相非常喜欢对方。之后我叔叔就把他送给了我。我是如此的高兴。现在他总是在我做家庭作业的时候悄悄地躺在我的身边。冬天来了，他会跟我一起睡。有时他会为我跳舞，那是非常有趣的，有时他的爪子湿了就会在地面上留下许多“梅花”。他很可爱。
