New York is the first big city in America. It is the world’s commercial

center and there are many sites that attract people from all over the world to

take a visit. One of the famous sites is the Statue of Liberty. Everybody knows

this great site and it has become the symbol of New York.

The Statue of Liberty stands on an island of the New York City harbor. It

is the tallest building ever built. When people get there, they will see a woman

holding a torch of fire. In her feet, people can see the chains that are broken,

which means she gets away from the restrictions and chases for freedom. There is

a book on her right hand, which is the Declaration of Independence.

The complete name of this statue is Liberty Enlightening the World. It is

the present from French people to American people. The meaning of friendship and

freedom are shared by both countries. Today, the meaning of the Statue of

Liberty is shared by the world. People can feel the peace when they see this

image.

I am terribly sorry that I failed to arrive at BLCU last Friday. I hope that this did not mess you up completely, although I know that you had already made some special arrangements for my visit with you parents and friends. I am very sorry about all that. I am sure you will be sympathetic, however, when I tell you that my father is dangerously ill in hospital, and that I found it impossible to leave for the visit when he is in this state.

My father was working very hard on his project on protecting the environment. I know the project has come to a very important stage. He and his assistants did not take regular rest for three weeks. Last night, my father had a heart attack and was soon sent to the hospital. The doctor said my father was in a very serious situation, and, he might need an operation.

24 hours have passed. Nothing has changed. I have to stay at the hospital. I will let you know if there is any good news.

I am sorry again and look forward to seeing you soon.

Our shool is big and nice.There are about one thousand students in our school. Every day we have four lessons in the morning and three lessons in the afternoon. 中国古代在清明时节就有插柳植树的传统，而近代植树节则最早由美国的内布拉斯加州发起。

孙中山任临时大总统的中华民国南京政府成立不久，就在19xx年5月设立了农林部，下设山林司，主管全国林业行政事务;19xx年11月又颁布了我国近代史上第一部《森林法》 。

19xx年7月，在孙中山的倡议下，当时的北洋政府正式下令，规定了以每年清明节为植树节，指定地点，选择树种，全国各级政府，机关，学校如期参加，举行植树节典礼并从事植树。经当年7月21日批准后，通令全国如期遵照办理。自此我国有了植树节。

1925年3月12日，孙中山先生逝世。1928年，为纪念孙中山逝世三周年，国民政府举行了植树式。以后为了纪念孙中山先生，把他逝世的那天，即3月12日定为植树节。

1928北伐完成后，4月7日由******政府通令全国： “嗣后旧历清明植树节应改为总理逝世纪念植树式”，民国1929年2月9日农矿部又以部令公布《总理逝世纪念植树式各省植树暂行条例》16条。而国民政府行政院农矿部长易培基遵照孙中山先生遗训，积极提倡造林，于1930年2月呈准行政院及国民政府，自3月9～15日一周间为“造林运动宣传周”，于12日孙中山先生逝世纪念日举行植树式。北方地区以3月初旬，寒气未消，还不适于栽树之故，特规定植树式仍于3月12日举行外，造林宣传运动周延之清明节行之。并由该部公布《各省各特别市各县造林运动宣传周办大纲》7条，以便全国照办。

1956年，毛泽东发出了“绿化祖国”、“实现大地园林化”的号召。中国开始了“xx年绿化运动”，目标是“在xx年内，基本上消灭荒地荒山，在一切宅旁、村旁、路旁、水旁，以及荒地荒山上，即在一切可能的地方，均要按规格种起树来，实行绿化。”

1979年，在邓小平提议下，第五届全国人大常委会第六次会议决定每年3月12日为我国的植树节。

广东省中山市翠亨村，是我国新民主主义创始人、伟大的革命先驱孙中山先生的家乡。在孙中山先生的故居中，今天还生长着一棵百年以上树龄的檀香山酸豆树。这是1883年时年仅17岁的孙中山从美国檀香山带回，并亲手栽种在这里的。

1981年12月13日，五届全国人大四次会议讨论通过了《关于开展全民义 务植树运动的决议》。这是建国以来国家最高权力机关对绿化祖国作出的第一个重大决议。从此，全民义务植树运动作为一项法律开始在全国实施。

1982年的植树节，邓小平同志率先垂范，在北京玉泉山上种下了义务植树运动的第一棵树。
