Im Alina Li and Im Ben Hedges, and today well be taking you through some of the most important traditions of Chinese new year and historical background. We will look at some of the legends behind Chinese new year and how to celebrate it. Here in the US and Chinese across the world.

The Chinese have specific way to celebrate their new year. If you walk down the street in Chinatown during Chinese New Year, you see a variety of ancient traditions such as red banners, firecrackers and lion dance performances, streets are filled with lively celebration.

However, legend has said that the new year has not always been a time of festivity. An Asian Chinese story told a chilly start to this festive holiday, it begins with an ancient Chinese beast called Nian.

Every New Year Nian would rise from swelling in the sea to ravage Chinese village in livestock and hurting people. The villages soon found out from a wise gray-haired old man that the only way to scare the beast away was to set off firecrackers and light lamps and to hang red banners on each door. As the story goes, this was the beginning of a tradition that would last thousands of years.

So this story leads to the creation of many of other traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year. lets take a look at some of these traditions.

我就有这样的体会。9年前我4岁，家住平桥一带。那里一到下雨天，就会积很多的水。马路上，极少的小轿车飞驰而过，溅了骑摩托车。自行车或步行的人们一身泥水。从而留下了“遗臭万年”的骂名。

5岁，我家搬到了那边。宽敞的大房子，宽阔的大马路使我逐渐淡忘了我曾在平桥那儿生活过。记起它，还是上次从姥姥家回来，爸爸开车带我们去那儿转一圈。

还听说六安马上要建一个比方特还要大的游乐园，那时，人们就该到我们六安来玩儿了。你说，六安还比不上香港。澳门吗？”

Myhome town is in the center of Xuzhou which was a quiet and beautiful place. Inthe past, there were many animals. They were lovely and nice. The air was freshand there were many birds fly in the sky.

我的家乡在徐州，是一个安静而美丽的地方中心。在过去，有许多动物。他们是可爱的，漂亮的。空气清新，有许多鸟在天空飞翔。

Overthe past years, it has changed a lot. At the present, it becomes a modern town and developsa lot. Now, the people in Xuzhou are richer than before, so most of people goto work by bus or by underground. Sometimes, they also drive their private carsto work. Many people sell out their old houses and move into new flats.

在我的家乡有一项比较宏伟的建筑——东江大桥。桥下面是一条河，这河叫东江河，清澈的河底倒映着桥的样子，时不时有鱼儿跃起，把这倒影给分散，泛起一圈圈水的波纹。

桥的色彩是朴素的，有点灰色又有点白。它由两大部分筑成；（1）是桥身（2）是挽起桥身的桥墩，厚实而粗大，给桥身以安全感。

东江桥长大约有200多米，宽有8多米，可以同时通过两辆车。如果你在桥上，一阵凉风拂过，再看看底下的河，清澈没污染，会让你的心情顺畅而开朗。

桥的扶手上雕刻着许多图案，有老虎，有狮子等十二生肖。

这桥坐落在我们学校旁边，所以常常会有学生偷偷溜出去观赏，特别是春天。春天的“桥上风景”那可美了，没去桥上看的人就是不知道春天的美在哪。桥身由四条桥墩支撑，那桥墩是非常坚固的，就算洪水来了也绝不会倒塌。我爱它，因为它的坚固，给了我们人民安全和方便。

从远处看，这座桥毅然的矗立在河上，点缀了“母亲河”。

慢慢的走近，在你眼前的是一座雄伟的大桥，你会发出感叹。它那雕刻精致的图案首先吸引了我的目光。接着是那宽阔的桥面，令我感叹！

从背面看，它像是一条通道，中间部分拱起了一点，让人感觉有点儿危险，可如果你从这边走到桥的尽头，你会感觉一点儿也不害怕，这就是桥的微妙之处。

Now i will introduce myself briefly,i am 21 years old,born in heilongjiang province ,northeast of china,and i am curruently a senior student at beijing XX uni.my major is packaging engineering.and i will receive my bachelor degree after my graduation in june.in the past 4 years,i spend most of my time on study,i have passed CET4/6 with a ease. and i have acquired basic knowledge of packaging and publishing both in theory and in practice. besides, i have attend Several packaging exhibition hold in Beijing, this is our advantage study here, i have taken a tour to some big factory and company. through these i have a deeply understanding of domestic packaging industry. compared to developed countries such as us, unfortunately, although we have made extraordinary progress since 1978,our packaging industry are still underdeveloped, mess, unstable, the situation of employees in this field are awkard. but i have full confidence in a bright future if only our economy can keep the growth pace still. i guess you maybe interested in the reason itch to law, and what is my plan during graduate study life, i would like to tell you that pursue law is one of my lifelong goal,i like my major packaging and i wont give up,if i can pursue my master degree here i will combine law with my former education. i will work hard in thesefields ,patent ,trademark, copyright, on the base of my years study in department of p&p, my character?I cannot describe it well, but i know i am optimistic and confident. sometimes i prefer to stay alone, reading, listening to music, but i am not lonely, i like to chat with my classmates, almost talk everything ,my favorite pastime is valleyball,playing cards or surf online. through college life,i learn how to balance between study and entertainment. by the way, i was a actor of our amazing drama club. i had a few glorious memory on stage. that is my pride.

时间过得可真快呀！转眼我已经五年多没有回家乡了，于是，我准备和妈妈一起回家乡。

早上，阳光明媚，天空也显得格外的蓝。我和妈妈都异常兴奋，毕竟那是我们日夜思念的故乡啊！坐在回家乡的火车上，我倚窗而坐，看着外面的世界，我的思绪又回到了我的儿童时代。那时，我们的村子是一排排平房，交通也比较落后，人们都是步行出去办事和赶集，尤其是下了雨之后，村庄里的路特别泥泞。在我的记忆中，人们总是穿得比较破旧，大家经济都不太宽裕，很少有人家买得起电视。我们总是去村子里的某些叔叔、阿姨家看电视，电视也只是14寸黑白电视，可那时已令很多人羡慕了！

经过了几个小时的旅程，我们终于到达了我的家乡启东市——江苏省的一个县级市。一下车，哇！我被眼前的景象迷住了，好一片田园风光，这在大城市是很难见到的：绿油油的田地，规划得很整齐的花园，一排排整齐的小洋楼，我真有点不敢相信，这就是我的家乡，我仿佛走进了“世外桃源”。五年的时间，没想到家乡有如此大的变化：原来狭窄小路都修成了宽阔的水泥路;原来的小平房都盖成了一幢幢小洋楼;还有街道上都建起了二十多层的商业楼，街上也热闹非凡;来往的汽车各式各样，家乡人的生活真是变得富裕了。我和妈妈来到了外公外婆住的村子，看到眼前的一切，惊住了，以前的小平房都不见了，取而代之的是很整齐的小洋房，每家门前都有一个小花园。我真想一下子出现在外公外婆的面前，于是，我们加快了脚步。一路上，我们不断地碰到妈妈认识的一些家乡人，他们热情地跟我们打招呼，他们知道我们是从北京回来的，还用普通话和我交流，这令我非常诧异。妈妈告诉我，因为家乡人也喜欢看电视，这几年他们从电视里学到了不少的新东西。
