The Origin of Halloween

While there are many versions of the origins and old customs of Halloween, some remain consistent by all accounts. Different cultures view Holloween somewhat differently but traditional Halloween practices remain the same.

Halloween culture can be traced back to the Druids, a Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and Northern Europe. Roots lay in the feast of Samhain, which was annually on October 31st to honor the dead.

Samhain signifies "summers end" or November. Samhain was a harvest festival with huge sacred bonfires, marking the end of the Celtic year and beginning of a new one. Many of the practices involved in this celebration were fed on superstition.

The Celts believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. Since not all spirits were thought to be friendly, gifts and treats were left out to pacify the evil and ensure next years crops would be plentiful. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating.

在那一天，家庭聚在一起，所以我们称这一天聚在一起。这是中秋节。我非常喜欢。因为那天我可以吃月饼。而且我的兄弟回家了。他全年都在外面工作只有那一天和春节。他回来了。所以那天我特别开心。那天我的家人聚在一起。

As a Senior Grade Three students, I am very busy in preparing for the college entrance examination. I have seven classes a day, and two self-study classes at night. Aside of study, I would play football with my friends after school and the weekend. I like playing football very much. 大概在十一二点的时候，家家户户都放起了烟花，那个美丽的场面简直让人陶醉其中。烟花的样子可美了!在空中的烟花，有的变成了一条小船，有的变成了一块布，有的变成了一个苹果，有的变成了一枝长满菊花的枝条，有的先四周散开再爆开……真是千姿百态，无奇不有。最美丽的就是那鲜艳多彩的颜色了。满天的烟花，在黑暗的天空里闪耀着光芒，有的是红的，有的是黄的，有的是紫的，有的是绿的，有的是蓝的，有的是红黄相加，有的是绿红相加……像一幅巨大的彩画铺展在眼前，真是五颜六色，五彩缤纷。

夜空中的烟花正争先恐后地升上天空，一个比一个美丽，好像比谁，谁最美丽。远处，那高大的楼房，在黑暗中发出的光，就像荧火虫，又像蜜蜂，给街道增添了光彩。待在美丽的场面结束时，小孩子们还不太甘心，玩了还想玩，谁让这是一年一度的热闹新年呢?一个个小孩手舞足蹈的跑向卖烟花的地儿，拎着大团大团的烟花回家。小孩玩小孩的，大人喃?当然是拉拉家常，斗斗地主呗!

好一个除夕，它让心境烦恼的人抛开阴影走向另一个美好的“仙境”，让在四面八方的人回来与亲人团圆，让盼望已久的孩子们了如所愿。除夕，美好的一天!
