日月潭的美，从早晨到黄昏，从春夏到秋冬，四季如春，一日四景。清晨，日月潭披上了一层轻纱薄雾，荡漾着朦胧的美；每当旭日从山峦临空，潭中倒映出山峦树影，随着鱼鹰掠过水面，激起碧波荡漾；夕陽西下，落霞于潭中闪耀出万道金光；夜幕低垂，山野别墅的灯光倒映在潭水中，随着晚风拂来，变幻出多彩的夜景。古人欲把西湖比西子，莫忘日月潭亦是美人。

游览日月潭有多种方式可供选择。漫步在美丽的湖滨，享受日与月的洗礼，体验真实和美好的感动；骑着自行车，沿着环湖公路，尽情感受那份静谧的自然美感；或者乘坐游船，迎风破浪，尽收水色；或划着小舟，在漫游中欣赏那湖光山色。在日月潭的玄光寺码头、朝雾码头、德化码头、水社码头都可以方便上下。我们这次乘坐游轮，由朝雾码头启航，从拉鲁岛西面绕过，掌舵的师傅在航行中通过喇叭热情地为我们作介绍。游船停靠在水社亲水步道，沿石阶登山入玄光寺山门，有邹族姑娘在此载歌载舞迎接。上行见一石柱，南北两侧均隽刻有日月潭，并涂抹红漆，十分醒目，游人纷纷在日月潭石柱前留影。在此山峦上欣赏日月潭山光水色，是山，是水，亦是画。

日月潭是邵族文化的发祥地，拥有邵族历史文化的传统特色，给日月潭增添了更多的神秘色彩。邵族是台湾原住民中最小的族群，长久以来居住在日月潭畔，其传统祭祀、歌舞、工艺和美食颇具特色。邵族人的特有文化是信仰祖灵，家家都供奉一只祖灵篮，又称“公妈篮”，内盛装祖先遗留下的衣饰，代表祖灵的存在，举行重要祭典仪式时，皆须向祖灵篮祭祷。

邵族传统祭仪依循四季时序举行。每年农历二月有开垦祭，三月有陆稻播种祭，五、六月有整地除草祭，七月有狩猎祭，八月是邵族一年中最重要的传统新年节庆，将近一个月的庆典隆重热闹。

日月潭以其得天独厚的自然条件，孕育出许多独特的地方物产。水产以肉质肥腴鲜美的曲腰鱼、奇力鱼、潭虾最为著名；陆产有阿萨达姆红茶，还有香菇、蝴蝶兰、虎头兰、刺五加、茭白笋、梅等。
