如生活在珊瑚礁中的双锯鱼，体长仅为3-5厘米，经常生活在海葵的体腔内。双锯鱼对海葵触觉上的刺丝胞所分泌的毒液和消化液毫不受损伤。海葵通常一接触到任何动物，其触手会立即收缩，而把动物包围在许多触手中央，并分泌毒液将捕获物麻痹，并吞食之。

而双锯鱼能自由出入于海葵的体腔中，游动于触手之间。双锯鱼由于具有美丽鲜艳的体色，能引起任何凶猛鱼类的注意，因此引起被追逐而立即逃入海葵的体腔内。凶猛鱼类追到海葵的触手范围内时，就会被海葵捕捉住，并很快被麻痹，从而被海葵吞入腹中，于是海葵和它的共栖者双锯鱼可以分而食之; 寄居蟹和海葵是一对合作互助的共栖伙伴。寄居蟹的头胸甲较窄，不 能把自己柔软的腹部包住。为了保护自己，它只能钻到软体动物的空壳里 去，把头甲和一对大螯露在外面，并伸出前面两对细长的步足来爬行。 当寄居蟹安家之后，便立即开始去找个看守的门卫。当它找到一种合 适的海葵之后，便用螯小心翼翼地把它从附着体上取下来，安放在螺壳的 入口处，为自己看守家门。

海葵是最称职的门卫。它用有毒的触手去蜇那些敢来靠近它们的所有 动物，保护寄居蟹。而寄居蟹则背着行动困难的海葵，四出觅食，有福同 享。 不能游动的海葵把它的盟友当作交通工具，这种形式的共生称作运动 共生。它在寄居蟹身上能有更多的捕食机会，同时还能够更快地更换"肚 子"里的水。因为海葵如同珊瑚一样，不能移动，它们很容易被细砂、生 物残骸和自身的排泄物所埋没，它需要有流动的活水。 随着寄居蟹的不断长大，原来的"旧居"太狭窄时，就去另找一个更 大的"住宅"，同样钻到里面去。当它搬进新居时，总不忘了把自己的伙 伴一起搬来，重新开始共同生活。

就这样，它们一直共同生活到死;
