一、理解词语的意义

语言中的任何一个词语都有它的固定的意义，也就是词典中所注释的意义，我们也叫它概念意义或者静态意义。

把这些词语组织起来，成为短语或者句子，它们就有了具体意义，也就是语境所赋予的词语的动态意义。

所谓理解词语的意义，主要是指理解它在一定语境中的具体意义。词语的具体意义，很多时候就是它的固定意义，即概念意义；有时则是语境临时赋予的意义，即临时意义。

1．概念意义

理解词语的概念意义，需要联系上下文，依据词语之间的意义关系进行。一般词语的理解都不难，难在对多义词语的理解，也就是从多义中选择出准确的义项。汉语中存在着大量的多义词，这些词在词典中不止一个意义，但是用在一定的语言环境中则只显示一个意义，这就需要结合上下文认真加以辨别。1996年全国高考语文试卷中有这样一题。

①阅读下列文字，回答后面的问题。

甲：听说现在中学语文课本里的文言文还有增多的趋势，我持反对意见。文言文可以学一点，但不要太多，因为我们是反对写文言文的。为什么要反对写文言文呢？首先，现代人要说现代话；其次，文言文不易写好。为什么要做这吃力不讨好的事情呢？我说可以教点文言文，但是目的不在于此。我也赞成教点古诗文，因为现在的文风不大好。古人是很讲究文字①简洁、干净、利落的，这种文章很可以治治我们现在的文风……

乙：我是主张学习文言文的……我们不能成为民族虚无主义者，全部否定传统的语言文字②、文学。文言文中的词汇和文字③表现力等还在不断丰富现代汉语……

这道题考查的就是根据语境选择义项、理解词语的意义的能力。这几个“文字”用的都是它的固定意义，但是由于所处的上下文不同，使用的具体含义也有所不同。“文字①”用“简洁、干净、利落”来形容，应理解为“写作运用的语言”或“连缀成篇的文章”，这样才能与下一句“这种文章”相衔接；“文字②”与“语言”相并列，应理解为“记录语言的符号”才合理。“文字③”与“词汇”并列，共同修饰“表现力”，应理解为“写作运用的语言”。

2．临时意义

理解词语的临时意义更离不开语言环境。我们知道，词语的意义本来是固定的，但是用在一定的上下文中，有些词语可能会产生一种语境所赋予的新的临时的意义，离开这个语境，这种临时的意义就不存在了。临时意义往往是从这些词语的固定意义引申出来的。例如：

②长虹飞架之处，昔日的交通梗塞长蛇阵不见了，红绿灯偃旗息鼓了，人流、汽车流、自行车流自成体系，互不干扰……（刘宗明《北京立交桥》）

③我还想指出，阴山一带在民族关系紧张的时期是一个战场，在民族关系缓和时期则是一个重要的文化交流的驿站。（翦伯赞《内蒙访古》）

例②“偃旗息鼓”，字典上有两种解释：①放倒军旗，停打军鼓，指秘密行军，不暴露目标，也指停止战斗；②比喻停止批评、攻击等。但是，这两种解释用在这句话中都不合适，因为它的主语是“红绿灯”。结合上下文，这里用的大致是“没有”“停止”的意思：因为有了立交桥，南来北往的人和车各走各的路，不再需要红绿灯来指挥交通了，所以说“红绿灯偃旗息鼓了”。这里用的是它的临时的比喻义。例③的“驿站”本义是指古代供传递政府文书的人中途更换马匹或休息、住宿的地方，这里则引申为文化交流的场所，是语境所赋予的临l
