In the third quarter,when the team was ten points behind, a silent young man quietly slipped into the empty locker room and put on his football gear. As he ran onto the sidelines, the coach and his players were astounded to see their faithful teammate back so soon. "Coach, please let me play. I‘ve just got to play today," said the young man. The coach pretended not to hear him. There was no way he wanted his worst player in this close playoff game. But the young man persisted, and finally feeling sorry for the kid, the coach gave in. "All right," he said."You can go in." Before long, the coach, the players and everyone in the stands could not believe their eyes. This little unknown, who had never played before was doing everything right. The opposing team could not stop him. He ran, he passed, blocked, and tackled like a star. His team began to triumph. The score was soon tied. In the closing seconds of the game, this kid intercepted a pass and ran all the way for the winning touchdown. The fans broke loose. His teammates hoisted him onto their shoulders. Such cheering you never heard.

Finally, after the stands had emptied and the team had showered and left the locker room, the coach noticed that this young man was sitting quietly in the corner all alone The coach came to him and said, " Kid, I can‘t believe it. You were fantastic! Tell me what got into you? How did you do it?"

He looked at the coach, with tears in his eyes, and said, "Well, you knew my dad died, but did you know that my dad was blind?" The young man swallowed hard and forced a smile, "Dad came to all my games, but today was the first time he could see me play, and I wanted to show him I could do it!"

Like the athlete‘s father, God is always there cheering for us. He‘s always reminding us to go on. He‘s even offering us His hand for He knows what is best, and is willing to give us what we need and not simply what we want. GOD has never missed a single game. What a joy to know that life is meaningful if lived for the Highest. Live for HIM for He‘s watching us in the game of life!

THE GOAL IN MY LIFE

As is known to everybody, the knowledge is power and money. If I were a college student, I would be the happiest person in the world. I would pursue my favorite hobby…study English.

Since college life is meant to be independent, I might give free scope to my real talent. Furthermore, I might participate in social and national reconstruction projects. I would abide by my principles by reading more add enriching myself so that I might be of greater use to society upon my graduation day.

达戈是我丈夫的好朋友，一个爽朗的美国小伙子。那年感恩节他得知我们一家只有三口人在美国时，邀请我们去他家过感恩节。感恩节在美国是一个很重要的团聚日子，这一天一家人在一起吃火鸡大餐和看美式足球赛是传统节目。达戈说：“过来吧，看看美国人家是怎样过节的，你们也可以过一个真正的感恩节了。”

每逢美国的大小节日，达戈这样邀请我们已经有好几次了，但是我都没有同意去。我不太喜欢在陌生人的环境中应酬，尤其当我不熟悉他们的作派、他们的话题、他们的语言、他们的思路时，身处这样的环境会让我无法放松，并且感到不舒服。每一次先生让我参加他的美国朋友或者同事举办的活动时，我总是拒绝的多。但是最近常常在学校和老师聊天，和同学沟通，以前的不舒服减少了很多。于是我同意和先生一起去达戈那里过感恩节。

我们按照美国人的风俗，到超市里买了两瓶葡萄酒，驾车去了达戈家。

感恩节是美国一个很特殊的节日。通常，美国主要的传统节日都和欧洲主要传统节日一样，单单这个感恩节是美国独有的。那是因为四百多年前，来自欧洲的第一批移民登陆美国后，缺衣少食又冻又饿死了不少人，当地的印第安人送给他们食物和衣物，教他们耕种，帮助他们适应了这块新大陆的生活。第二年秋季，这些来自于欧洲的首批移民有了收获，他们很感激印第安人给予的无私帮助，因为那些帮助使他们战胜了最初的困难，在这块新大陆立足，于是秋收之后，欧洲的首批移民举办了一个巨大的派对，邀请他们的救命恩人——当地土著印第安人来品尝他们的丰收果实。这就是美国历史上第一个感恩节。

感恩节都是在秋收以后举行，几乎所有的家庭成员都会出席。虽然经过四百多年的历史变迁，但是感恩节的食物没有多大改变，就是以火鸡为主食，加上蔬菜、水果、土豆泥和南瓜馅饼，饮料则是葡萄酒和水果苏打水。这些食物看似简单，却是美国当年的农业社会所能生产和赖以生存的最好食物了。

我们到了达戈家，达戈和他太太出来迎接我们说：“现在我们开始上路，去真正过感恩节的地方，我妈妈家。在那里，你们将和我们一大家子一起过节，我们家有四十个家庭成员团聚。”重新上路时，达戈的吉普车在前面带路，我们跟着他在高速公路疾驶，终于来到南加州河边县一个高山脚下。这里有一片干净、美丽、整洁又现代的住宅区，达戈妈妈的家就在这片住宅区中。

在一栋装饰着秋收景色的房子前，达戈停下车。眼前的景象非常有趣，在一栋现代别墅前，整齐排列着大捆的麦秸秆、大大小小形状各异的南瓜、门前用稻草扎成的小人在风中摆动着腰肢、房檐下还挂着成串的红辣椒和大蒜头。这些装饰显示出一片丰收的景象，顿时让人感到温暖无比。

达戈的妈妈和爸爸站在门口欢迎我们，他们和我们每一个人拥抱，然后问我们的名字，此后达戈妈妈就没有喊错过我们的名字，这真让我为她的好记忆感到惊奇。此时又跑出了一个只有一岁多的小男孩，那是达戈的小侄子，他瞪着一双好奇的蓝眼睛，怀里抱了一个大橄榄球看着家里来的客人，小家伙长的真是漂亮极了，而且一点也不怕陌生人，他拉拉这个人，又拍拍那个人，虽然不太会说话，但是用动作邀请客人和他一起玩橄榄球，以显示他对客人的热情和礼貌。

我们进了房子，此时厨房的工作台上已经堆满了各式食品，达戈的哥哥姐姐正忙碌地准备着感恩节大餐。也许他们知道今天有外国朋友过来和他们一起过感恩节，因此除了火鸡之外，还有熏火腿，达戈的姐姐专门烘培了小圆面包，远远的就能闻到香味。大大的果盘里堆满了各式新鲜水果，达戈的姐夫正在用小电锯切着有三十斤重的烤火鸡和巨大的熏火腿，我想这是四百多年前的先辈们怎么都想象不到的切割工具了。达戈的侄子侄女们正在后院欢快的跑笑着，这些孩子们或许一年中见面的机会也不多，今天能在一起也非常难得。

我先生很快就和达戈的父母兄姐聊上了天。达戈是家里最小的孩子，他的父兄都在AT&T公司工作，只有达戈走自己的路，成为一名出色的汽车销售员。达戈的理想是要有一家自己的汽车销售公司，或者成为一名汽车销售公司的高级主管，从达戈的工作努力情况看，这个理想离他并不遥远。达戈的父亲告诉我们，他有七个子女，因此在孩子成长阶段工作很辛苦，现在孩子们都长大了，他已经退休开始安享退休之后的生活。和他们聊天中了解到他们来自于德国，现在已经是第三代移民了。“刚到美国时很辛苦，就像你们现在一样，什么也没有，全靠自己去努力，去奋斗。现在我们每一个子女都在美国成了家，在美国完全扎根了。”达戈的爸爸对我们说。

四点钟达戈告诉大家开饭了。美国传统家庭的感恩节火鸡大餐开始时间是在下午四点钟左右，因为这样可以不至于吃得太饱而影响晚上的睡眠，同时，大餐后那些男人要看美国传统的橄榄球赛，而妇女们则要在一起闲话家常，谈谈她们的私房话。我们和他们的将近四十位家庭成员一起排队取食品，就像在自助餐厅吃自助餐一样。大家都很兴奋，尤其那些孩子们，看着桌上丰富的食品，叽叽喳喳说着什么，似乎在告诉自己的堂表兄弟姐妹们哪一些是自己妈妈的拿手厨艺。

我的盘子里装了很多食物，达戈曾经告诉我，他妈妈的厨艺非常好，今天有机会品尝到了我想一定要多吃一些。去年圣诞节，达戈请来了好几位亚裔朋友，我们也去了，他花了两天时间准备圣诞大餐，那一顿饭是我在美国所吃到的最美味的西餐。我告诉达戈，如果他开一家餐馆一定会成功。达戈快乐的对我说，如果我品尝了他妈妈烹调的食物一定不会喜欢他的，因为他妈妈能烧出真正好吃的东西。

今天我特地问达戈，哪一些是他妈妈拿手的食物?他告诉我后，我在盘子里放了好些土豆泥和汁，那些汁是他妈妈几十年的拿手厨艺了。当我吃了第一口后，达戈问我味道如何?我一边吞咽着土豆泥一边说：“你妈妈原可以成为一个有自己专利的食品加工厂的老板的，为什么她没有自己去开工厂呢?”“你的意思是我妈妈可以去卖她的土豆泥汁?”“当然!”我点头肯定地说。达戈高兴地笑了，回头高声喊道：“妈妈!你听到没有，你可以开公司卖土豆泥汁!你现在开也不晚，我愿意投资!”达戈妈妈和爸爸都高兴地笑了起了，走过来拥抱着这个比爸爸还高出半头的小儿子亲起了面颊。

饭后，我走出大门，看见刚才还在吃晚餐的几个大男孩在马路上玩起了橄榄球，他们每个人腰上绑了一根黄腰带，只要把这根黄腰带拉下来就算赢了，这些叔侄在一起你争我夺好不热闹。后院里也传出了欢呼声，我走进后院，原来是后院放了一张乒乓桌，那些小孩子在玩乒乓球。看见我走过去，十岁的斯蒂夫非常绅士礼貌的把乒乓球板递给我，让我和他们一起玩，我开始和这些孩子们玩起乒乓球来。那些孩子都围了过来，看着我的乒乓球艺，几乎目瞪口呆，其实我的乒乓球艺只是最最大众化的水平，几乎在学校玩过乒乓球的人都有这样的球艺，但是这些美国孩子可没这么认为，他们一个劲的问我：你是不是专业的?是不是专家?我告诉他们中国很多人可以玩到这个样子，很多小孩子都比我玩的好。但是这些孩子都不相信，他们互相议论着：看，她玩的就像电视上的比赛一样!她一定是专业的!接着他们就像看到了崇拜许久的明星来到他们中间一样围着我，不停的问很多问题，模仿我的挥拍动作。我让他们自己玩的时候，他们击出一球就看着我，希望我能给他们一个点评，或给他们一些指导。我不断地鼓励他们，这更让他们兴奋不已，就连一岁半的小阿顿也放弃了橄榄球要求和哥哥一起玩乒乓。我和这些孩子们一直玩到天黑，而他们对明星崇拜的态度也一直维持到我们离开。

达戈看到孩子们围绕着我非常高兴，因为他请来的客人成了这些侄儿侄女们的英雄。“今天过来玩是不是增加了很多自信?”达戈问我。因为之前我曾经和我先生说过我不了解他们没有自信和这些人一起玩，我先生把这话告诉了达戈。我笑着告诉达戈：“是的，但是如果大家都能讲中国话，你就能看到一个很自信的我了。”“那我就没有自信了。”达戈朗声笑着说。

告辞的时间到了，达戈的父母和我们一一拥抱，欢迎我们下一次再到他们家过圣诞节。他们就像中国的长辈一样，问我们吃的好不好，玩的是否开心?我告诉他们，这是一个令我难忘的感恩节，我很高兴能够参加他们家庭的团聚。孩子们的眼中流露出依依不舍的眼神，挥着手和我们再见。我们在一片告别声中驾车离去。

路上，我先生问我，感觉怎么样?我告诉他，进入了美国人家后才发现就像回到自己家一样，并没有陌生感觉，这真是一个很好的与人交往的经验。同时，这一次的感恩节是我来美国后感觉最温馨最难忘的一次了。他得意的笑了。
