这个故事讲述的是韩信少年时家中贫寒，父母双亡，他虽然用功读书，拼命习武，却仍然无以为生，迫不得已，他来到淮水边垂钓，用鱼换饭吃，经常饥一顿饱一顿，淮水边有位老人家见韩信可怜，就把自己的饭菜分给他吃，天天如此，从未间断，韩信深受感动。后来他当了大官以后，始终没忘当年的一饭之恩，派人四处寻找，最后以千金相赠。
