蜗牛总是背着漂亮精巧的“小楼房”，在潮湿的地方爬行寻食。说起它的小楼房，作用还真不小呢！遇到危险时，它就将身体缩进“小楼”里；危险过去了，身体又伸出“小楼”外。每当高温干旱季节，它便躲进自由舒适的“小楼”里避暑——夏眠。每当晚秋季节，它又开始搬家，常爬到石缝或钻到地下隐居起来，躲进小楼御寒——冬眠。

蜗牛爬得慢是有名的，我想大该是它背着这么重的壳的缘故吧！它爬行时，会分泌出一条条白色的粘液。蜗牛的粘液用处可大了！在粗糙的树杆上或凹凸不平的地面爬行时，可变得滑一些；在直立或陡而滑的地方，又可以起到胶水一样的作用，能牢牢把自己粘住。冬夏长眠时，躲进小楼，分泌粘液，封住壳口，以抵御三九寒气和烈日炎炎的酷暑，至第二年春天。

蜗牛的身体分头、胸、腹三部分。头部长有两对触角，一对短，一对长。一对较长的触角顶端，长着一对小眼睛。这对眼睛如同“探测器”，试探着周围的情况，一有危险就报告“总部”，随即缩进壳内。只要你轻轻碰一下，就会作出反映。蜗牛的腹部肌肉发达，它爬行时就是靠腹足作运动的，一伸一缩，真有趣！

蜗牛喜欢吃一些瓜果和嫩叶，它爬得太慢又想吃到，总得废一些周折。会不会在觅食途中因此而成为其它动物的美餐呢，我真为它担心。

今天，语文课上老师给我们布置了一项特殊的作业：种豆子。回到家后，我找来玻璃杯，灌上水，放入湿巾，再把绿豆放入杯中。别看一个小小的动作，可有许多奥秘呢：要将豆子放在湿巾上面，千万不要将豆子置于水底，不然就淹死了，更别说生根发芽了。而且，豆子还需要充足的阳光，才能茁壮成长，所以我将绿豆放在了朝阳的窗台上。

第一天，绿豆们好像是睡着了，不肯醒来，没有一点儿动静……

经过一天的长眠，我的绿豆变大了，看起来饱胀地马上要破裂似的。不久后，长出了一根细小的嫩芽，好像在伸懒腰呢!绿豆的颜色也从嫩绿色变成嫩红色，这时的嫩芽正努力的探出头，看着外面的世界。

第三天，嫩芽加长变粗，弯弯曲曲的像一只米虫。嫩芽末端，露出一点淡淡的黄色。而我的另一颗绿豆，好像还在睡梦中，没有一点变化。

经过四天苦苦等待，加上我的精心呵护，沉睡的那颗绿豆也不甘落后，奋起直追，两颗小绿豆已全部发芽。嫩芽的颜色由原来的米白色变成淡红色，开始向下扎根。而豆荚都已基本裂开，呈现出淡紫、青绿、棕红和一些说不上来，见也没见过的颜色。

第五天，两颗小绿豆的茎上长出了细小的纤毛。那颗先发芽的绿豆随着嫩茎的一天天长大，把绿豆外壳支撑起来，就像一个大锤头一样竖立在杯中。更奇怪的是两颗小绿豆的根越长越亲密，最后居然连到一起了，好像同生共死的兄弟一样依偎在一起。

经过几天的生长，绿豆们已有十厘米高了，长出了翠绿的叶子，上面的叶脉清晰可见。茎干像一个刚起床的小朋友的腰身，逐渐伸直变得强壮有力。胚芽变成了长长的根，根上又生根，根条的数目不可计数。但与我之前种的黄豆相比，绿豆的粗壮简直不值一提。黄豆的根络会穿过层层湿巾，直插水底。

这次种植使我明白了只要持续观察，仔细观察，便可以发现生长的奥秘，收获到亲手实践的快乐。
