Social Networking’s Influence on College Students

Social networking has gained huge worldwide popularity in recent years, especially among college students. In China, college student is the main force of social networking, 97.7% of which are fond of instant messaging and 80.7% prefer social networking sites like micro-blog and Q-zone (China Internet Network Information Center, 2013). Moreover, Michigan State University Original Study also finds that compared with Chinese students, American students are more tied to social media (2013). Therefore, nowadays there is a heated debate about advantages and disadvantages about social networking’s influence on college students.

Obviously, there are a number of positive features on social networking. It provides a convenient access to consolidate the relationship with people they know, make friends with strangers without restrictions of space and share happiness and sorrow. What’s more, social networking also has educational functions including reducing college drop-out rates, motivating students to work as a team, sending information about assignments, reminding students about deadline and stimulating students to help each other. (BBC News, 2009). There is no doubt that social networking plays a significant role in eiching students’ college lives.

However, every coin has two sides. There are also many disadvantages on the influence of social networking, among which, “soft addiction” is the most serious problem, distracting students from study. Because of lack of self-restriction, many students would waste plenty of time to search the social networking sites unconsciously, followed by a strong tendency to blame themselves (Li, 2013). This kind of “soft addiction” and distraction was also confirmed by Zhang (2011) who conducted a survey by questionare of 500 Chinese college students from different schools and found that 33% students could not bear one-week life without social networking and 77% students could not help themselves accessing social networking site during classes. Furthermore, a social experiment was performed by Harrisburg University (Pilkington, 2010) to figure out the effect after initiating blackout of all social networking sites. It turned out that some students became more concentrated on

the tutor and making notes instead of having instant messaging running in classes.

As far as I’m concerned, the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages, especially in China, where social networking is used for communication and entertainment and seldom plays the educational role (Li, 2011). The priority of a college student is to study hard instead of being addicted to social networking. Therefore, it is imperative for them to realize their “soft addiction” to social networking and correct their behavior.

一节好课不是老师一味的讲，学生一味的听，而应是有静有动，动静相结合的，小学设管内的天性是好动的，要让他们端端正正的坐着听四十分钟，是很难办到的。即使做到了也收不到良好的教学效果。同时还可能压抑了他们的个性，影响了他们的学习兴趣，此外，心理研究表明，小学生的注意力稳定性较差。最好的也只能保持30分钟，况且长时的有意注意容易使人感到枯燥乏味，投入程度也不会高，如果在教学中结合教师的讲解，适当地安排一些游戏，为孩子们提供一个动的舞台，把他们的思维和身体从疲劳、紧张中解放出来，使他们涣散的注意被吸引过来，在轻松愉快的气氛中完成学习任务。例如，在学习人身体部位名称时，刚开始学生们觉得新鲜，兴趣很浓，热情还很高，但随着单词加多，听讲和读的时间加长，他们感到很疲乏，觉得没意思了，注意力也不能很好地集中了。这时，我适时地加入了“听口令，做动作”的游戏，一听说要做游戏，孩子们立刻变得活跃起来，注意力又集中了，在随后“touch your head” “stamp your feet” “wave your arm”的口令中，他们一会摸头，一会跺脚，一会挥胳膊，忙得不亦乐乎，最终在笑声中记住了个部位的名称。

二、 创设情景，加深记忆

一种语言习惯的习得，必须是在一定的语言背景和情景中完成，这些仅靠课文中提供的情景对话是远远不够的。那些对话是别人的，学生只是一个扮演者和朗读者，因为没有心灵的感受和理解，许多人不能很好地融入其中。游戏就弥补了之不足。它不仅为学生提供了情境，语境，还让学生们真正地成为“主人公”亲身经历资：料；来/源，于ＧＺＵ５２１学：习；网 http：//Ｇzｕ５２1。COm，这对他们的记忆又是一大帮助，如果为了记忆只是一味地重复练习，他们就只能是机械地记忆，而这种记忆是很难保持的，但如果将所学的内容安排在他们积极从事着的活动中去，成为活动的直接对象，这样，因为是他们亲自感受体验，直接参与了的，记忆效果受识记时的情绪状态的影响。情绪状态较佳时对记忆作用明显。这一研究结果提示我们，在教学时，应该重视情境，愉快地教学，这又如何做到呢？游戏便为我们提供了一条捷径。在教学中开展多种多样轻松幽默的游戏，使他们在笑声中学会英语。

三、 训练口语，发展思维

英语的学习不仅仅是记忆、理解、书写，还要能够说出来，能够正确流利地说出来。这是重点也难点。对于初学英语的人来说，更是难上加难。他们往往心理紧张，没有自信，不敢开口。更别说在课后生活中运用了。要攻破这个拦路虎，首先必须给学生一个没有压力的轻松环境，消除内心的紧张与害怕，同时，鼓励他们进行语言交流，在运用语言与其他人互相讲话时，学习的内容会丰富起来，游戏就恰恰能够做到这些。游戏给了学生接近生活，轻松愉快的环境，带给他们描述、表达、说明的欲望，在不知不觉中训练了口语，这些都比学生自己读教材重复教师的话有价值得多。

语言与思维之间存在密切的关系，游戏在联系课本词汇的同时，促使学生准确地表达思想感情，把他们所学的语言词汇合理地组织，适当地安排，准确地表达，这个过程，丰富了他们的词汇，丰富了他们的的感性经验，推动了思维的灵活性、逻辑性的发展。

此外，游戏给了学生想象和思考的空间，激发了他们的想象力和思考能力。如在教学“friendship”时，为了让他们深刻理解记忆这个单词的含义，我采用了画图的游戏，就是把这个单词的意思用画图表示出来。因为“friendship”的概念是抽象的，没有实物可以比拟，这样就不能照猫画虎了。只能凭借自己的脑子去思考去想象。有的学生想象了一个有关友谊的故事，画了一幅漫画，有的想到了恩格斯和马克思的友谊，画了两幅肖像；有的想到了一句古诗“桃花潭水深千尺，不及汪伦送我情”，并且惟妙惟肖地画了出来，以次来体现“friendship”的含义这样，学生们充分发挥了他们的想象和思考的能力，深刻地理解了单词的意义，思维能力也得到了进一步发展。

四、 培养情感，发展能力

在教学中，有趣的游戏活动，可以养成学生热爱生活，开朗乐观的生活态度，能够让学生有机会感受生活的多姿多彩，有机会展现自己的生命活力和丰富想象力，创造力，从而树立自信心和自豪感。在游戏活动中，学生与他人合作交流，使其体验到团结、友爱、互助、荣誉感、责任感，进取心等积极的情感。比如，在角色扮演的游戏中，使其学习表达各种社会角色的情感，在画画游戏中进一步发展了他们的美感，此外，游戏中还存在一个如何协调的问题，如何制定游戏规则和如何违反规则进行处罚的问题，学生们需要自主地讨论和解决这个问题。这个过程中他们的组织能力、协调能力等都得以锻炼，同时这队学生的独立性、正义感都有潜移默化的作用。

以上是游戏在小学英语教学中四方面的作用，除此之外，还有其他作用，这根据游戏形式、内容的不同而异，当然，并不是所有游戏都能起到了这些作用。这就要求我们在教学中精心选择、组织，恰当安排，以使其取得最佳效果。

小光是沉迷于电脑游戏，晚上都会玩到三更半夜，功课也懒得做。很晚才睡觉，导致睡眠不足。小光的这种坏习惯，父母却没有发觉。

在学校，小光就会趴在桌子上打瞌睡。“当!”老师拍了桌子，小光才睁开眼睛。老是用凶巴巴的眼神瞪着小光，喝到“作业呢?”小光慌了手脚，说：“在，在……在家呢!”老师半信半疑的走开了。

在家里，小光也会早餐不吃，上校车。母亲察觉到有些不对劲，却自言自语地说：“这孩子，饭不吃，牛奶不喝的上学，不仅变瘦了，还熊猫眼越来越明显!真不像话!到底晚上在干什么啊!毕竟期中考也快到了，这孩子或许在复习吧……”自我安慰后，小光的母亲笑着继续干活了。

母亲越来越不忍心看见小光越来越消瘦不成人形的样子，便打算打电话给老师请老师减轻孩子的作业量。“喂?张老师吗?我是小光的妈妈。”小光的妈妈客气的说到。老师吃了一惊，说：“小光的妈妈啊，你好你好，我正打算打电话给您呢!”小光的妈妈问了老师是不是小光犯了什么错，老师才找她的，老实说：“不不不，小光最近情况不佳，作业总是不做，塞在书包里，却骗我们说作业落在家了。不止这样，小光经常在上课时打瞌睡，请问这是怎么一回事呢?”老师的话把小光的妈妈吓了一大跳。讨论了一会，母亲觉得小光肯定在玩电脑，导致他心不在焉的。便打算审问小光。

回到家，小光被叫到父母的面前。小光的爸爸问小光是不是有这么一回事，小光只好乖乖认错。父母生气的批评小光。小光知道自己做错了，低着头，红着脸低头认错。父母说：“小光，别怪爸爸妈妈没有提醒你，如果你再这样贪玩，我们就会把你的电脑搬走!”

经过这次教训，小光开始努力读书，不再像以前那样沉迷于电子游戏。小光的成绩越来越好，每天也都保持着良好的饮食习惯，早睡早起。也给自己制定了适当的时间玩电子游戏。

在当今社会大家都喜欢玩电脑！这是众人皆知的事情！可是电脑对我们的危害，又有几个人得知呢！就算得知了可是实际行动呢？那么，电脑游戏对于我们中小学生而言，有哪些害处呢？

首先，玩电脑游戏，是需要时间的，如果玩电脑游戏的时间过多的话，那么，我们用来学习的时间就必然会大大地减少，除非是不用学习一看就会的天才，就我们这些普通人而言，学习成绩不下降才怪呢！

其次，玩电脑游戏，尤其是长时间地玩，十分有害我们青少年们的视力和健康，当你沉迷在电脑游戏带给你的快乐中时，你的视力也在不知不觉中一天天地衰退，等你最后醒悟时，已经为时晚矣！可能还要搭上你曾经拥有过的健康身体。

第三，玩电脑游戏，十分地浪费金钱，作为中小学生的我们，其零花钱，主要依赖于我们的父母大人所赐，试想一下，有哪一位父母，很爽快地给钱让我们去上网玩游戏，所以，为了能够进网吧上网玩电脑游戏，我们必然会巧立名目向我们的父母索取，要不然就东拼西凑，挖空心思地弄钱，哪里还有心思学习，有的同学甚至因此而走上了犯罪的不归路，这又是何苦来着？

第四，玩电脑游戏，可能会污染我们青少年纯洁而美好的心灵。因为，许多的电脑游戏，都是打呀、杀呀的，为了达到目的，可以不择手段，试想，这与培育我们高尚的情操简直就是南辕北辙、背道而驰。而一个品德、素质低下的人，又如何能够作为一名优秀的人才，从而担负起社会赋予他（或她）的重大责任呢？

电脑游戏还有很多的危害，我就不再一一列举了。

也许有的人可能会不服气，你说了那么多电脑游戏的害处，难道电脑游戏就没有一点益处了吗？起码玩电脑游戏可以锻炼、提高我们的反应能力和手脑的快速配合能力，可以帮助我们了解电脑、认识电脑、学习电脑，可以使我们在紧张的学习中得到放松，可以使我们得到在现实中我们得不到的荣誉等等，好处还是很多的嘛！何况，很多的大人不是照样沉迷在电脑游戏中吗？

玩电脑游戏，也许的的确确有这样、那样的一些好处，但是，利弊权衡起来，我认为，玩电脑游戏，弊远远大于利，所以，我仍然坚信，为了我们自己的将来，同学们，请远离电脑游戏吧！
