到了当代，因为医学发达，“临终关怀”更成为普世关心的问题，如何“生有尊严，死也有尊严”，也成为超越国界的共同课题。芝加哥大学萝丝教授的名著《生死学》认为，死亡也是人生的一种“成长”，更具积极性与建设性。
