My school is at Haimen Town. It is very big and beautiful. There are forty-three classes in it. When you come to our school, you can see the modern teaching building. One winter, the weather was so cold that water turned into ice. One day on my way home, when seeing a frozen lake, I thought that the ice must be thick enough to support me. Peace therefore, in the sense of the absence of hostilities, is best understood as the absence of violence between groups, whether they are part of a state apparatus or not. Johan Galtung, a very influential peace researcher, calls peace understood simply as the absence of violence "negative peace."[2] It is labeled as such because although direct violence is not taking place, the points of conflict, which can lead to violence, are not necessarily resolved.
