We will look at some of the legends behind Chinese new year and how to celebrate it. Here in the US and Chinese across the world.

The Chinese have specific way to celebrate their new year. If you walk down the street in Chinatown during Chinese New Year, you see a variety of ancient traditions such as red banners, firecrackers and lion dance performances, streets are filled with lively celebration.

However, legend has said that the new year has not always been a time of festivity. An Asian Chinese story told a chilly start to this festive holiday, it begins with an ancient Chinese beast called Nian.

Every New Year Nian would rise from swelling in the sea to ravage Chinese village in livestock and hurting people. The villages soon found out from a wise gray-haired old man that the only way to scare the beast away was to set off firecrackers and light lamps and to hang red banners on each door. As the story goes, this was the beginning of a tradition that would last thousands of years.

So this story leads to the creation of many of other traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year. lets take a look at some of these traditions.

春节仿佛一杯浓浓的酒，让我的心一下子醉了，它让我在那一段时光中体会到童年的快乐。

春节中令我最快乐的事就是包饺子和吃饺子了。开始我不会包饺子，我诚心地对老妈说：“老妈，我想包饺子。老妈说：我把手洗干净，再教你怎么包。；于是我迅速把手洗干净了，连忙跑到老妈身旁，见老妈先擀好皮儿，又往皮儿里放了适合的馅，接着，老妈又边对边，左右捏了一下。再把饺子皮左右角一窝，用力一压，这样一个饺子就做好了。我学着老妈的方法也包了一个，但是和老妈的不一样，包的一团糟，馅还从皮里露出来。在老妈的耐心指导下，我又包了一个，我立刻有了信心。到了第三个的时候，我包的就更好了。老妈一个劲说：包的不错，就这样包。‘听了老妈的话，我的信心更大了，我又继续包了十几个饺子，包完了，老妈把饺子一煮，热腾腾的饺子端上桌子，真是香极了。吃着自己包的饺子，我更快乐。我感觉比吃老妈包的饺子更香，同时，我也有一种成就感。

每年过春节时候，我们家有个传统，那就是包饺子。妈妈和婶婶早早准备好了材料：和好面，菜肉馅，以及案板、擀面杖。

开始包饺子了！

妈妈坐在沙发上，开始揉面，然后揪成小剂子，用擀面杖擀成圆圆饺子皮。爷爷、爸爸和婶婶搬来小椅子，大家围坐在方桌旁，个个摩拳擦掌，准备一展身手。

Children can get some new clothes or presents from their parents and

watch TV and talk. In the midnight,there usually fairworks. On New Years

Lantern Festival after two weeks. People usually eat a kind of rice dumpling

called yuanxiao. It can take people good luck all the year round.

Spring Festival ,known as the Chinese New Year,is the most important holiday in China.From late January to early February,Chinese people are busy preparing for the New Year.They clean their houses ,have their hair cut,and buy new clothes .Jiaozi or dumpling is most popular.To those who live far away from their home,this festival is also a framily reunion occasion.

And they often go back home to celebrate the festival with their family.The first day of the new year is the time when people visit their friends adn wish each other good luck in the new year.

“爆竹声中一岁除，春风送暖入屠苏。千门万户瞳瞳日，总把新桃换旧符。”随着这首诗，春节离我们也越来越近了。

“咚！咚！”新年的钟声敲响了，我们中国人都满怀激动地呼喊着：“新年来了！新年来了！”我也兴奋地在家里呼喊着、蹦跳着，抑制不住自己喜悦、激动的心情。当我跑到阳台上时，突然，烟花飞上天空，在一瞬间，炸开了，有的像无数颗流星，有的像五光十色的花朵，有的像金色的大衣，还有的像金色的太阳，把大地照得如同白昼一样。啊！春节多美呀！

新年到了，今天是正月初一，到处都是一派喜庆的气氛。这一天家家都张灯结彩，门前贴着刚买来的对联，阳台挂着红灯，亲戚们聚在一起吃团圆饭，举杯敬酒祝福以后工作顺利、学习进步、合家欢乐！路上的行人都打扮的漂漂亮亮，高高兴兴的去亲戚家拜年。当然我们家也不例外，爸爸妈妈带着我和姐姐去舅舅家拜年，很巧阿姨他们也在这，就在这时外婆也来了。舅妈去给我们准备点心吃了，大人看闲着没事干，他们便决定打牌。大人打牌虽然挺有意思但是我们小孩总不能都在那看吧，于是我们也组织了小孩的活动。

小孩的活动也分几组，一组是去打鞭炮，一组是去玩捉迷藏，一组则是玩电脑……我一开始是去玩打鞭炮，因为我觉得玩捉迷藏地方有点小很容易被发现不好，而电脑的话还是少玩。玩鞭炮的只有3人，一个是堂哥一个是堂弟。我们先下楼寻找卖鞭炮的小店，还没走多远就找到了。我们买好东西就去找了一块空地，舅舅家楼下正好有一块空地而且没什么人走着于是我们就选定了。我们把买来的鞭炮平分了。我们先玩的是一条一条的鞭炮，我们去找来了一个不文明人丢的零食袋子。把鞭炮点燃在接触零食的袋子，零食袋子就会有一个个小洞小洞，鞭炮顺着小洞下去，没过多久零食袋子就被烧成了灰。现在我们玩的是点燃过几秒就会爆的，这种鞭炮还会5连的。我和堂哥配合，我拿着鞭炮，堂哥拿着打火机，我说：“点！”，只见堂哥马上点燃鞭炮，我也立即把鞭炮给扔掉了。我们立即捂住了耳朵，过了几秒钟，“啪！”鞭炮响了，紧接着“啪！”“啪！”“啪！”“啪！”鞭炮声又响了5次。玩着玩着我们也累了。

这个春节正是难忘啊！

An Unforgettable Experience

There are various activities in the college, such as hiking, gathering, competitions and so on. And what impresses me most is my experience of being a volunteer teacher.

I was a freshman when the School of Foreign Languages organized a voluntary activity which aimed at providing children in poor areas with a better education. As a matter of fact, I did not show any interest in this activity, for I thought that I just wasted my time and energy without getting any pay. But finally I followed the trend and went to the interview for a try. To my surprise, I was eolled as a member of the teaching group. I became quite excited and made up my mind to prepare for the class as well as I could. I read their textbook again and again to make sure that I was familiar with the language points. What’s more, I searched on the Internet for some additional information, which I thought would help me a lot in the class. At that time, I really could not wait to give the lecture.

Fortunately, it didn’t keep me waiting too long. It was a sunny day. And we spent almost an hour in the bus. Although I was tired and sleepy, my enthusiasm overwhelmed my tiredness. The school is a small place full of various books. The children there were so lovely that they left me a deep impression. They keep asking me

questions about study and they were also curious about the college life. I was quite happy surrounded by a group of children.

I really benefit a lot from the unforgettable experience. I realize that money and some material things should not be considered as the most important thing in our life. It is the self-realization that really makes our life meaningful. Although I did not get any material things from this activity, I was very happy for what I did for the children. So I hold that we should not just consider the salary in job-hunting, we should also think about whether the job can bring you spiritual enjoyment or not.

The Spring Festival is very important to Chinese people. In the past，people

could not often have meat，rice or other delicious food. They could only eat

these during the Spring festival. So every year they hoped that the Spring

Festival would come soon. Now， although people‘s life is much better，and we can

eat the delicious foods everyday. People still like the festival. Because most

people can have a long holiday，and we are free to go on a trip or visit our

friends or have parties with our family. In the evenings，we can have a big meal

in the restaurant or stay at home with family and watch the TV programs.

My Sheep year Spring Festival is special. My uncle and my aunt came back from Shanghai. My family  were very happy to keep the Spring Festival with them. And it was the most exciting festival of all the festivals.

On New Year’s Eve, my father and my uncle talked about their work together. My mum did some cooking with my aunt Grandparents and I watched the New Year TV programmes. At about six o’clock, we had a special family dinner. We all thought the dumplings were delicious.

On the first day of the New Year, we visited our relatives. In the afternoon, we went shopping in Jiefanf Road. My uncle bought some Jay’s CDs. He likes Jay’s music very much. There were so many people on the road. It was more alive than any other time of a year.

On the second and the third days, we spent a wonderful weekend in the country. There were much bigger trees than in the city. And the animals were more beautiful than in the city. We all enjoyed ourselves.

在我的记忆中，家乡的春节画面，总是那么热闹，那么欢乐，可，我却少有机会能感受到家乡热闹欢乐的春节了。在去年的春天，我们一家人搬到了城市里住，城市里的春节却远远没有家乡里的热闹和欢乐，每到春节的时候，我总是希望爸爸妈妈能陪我回家乡过年，可他们却说习惯了在城里过年，更何况，家乡里的房屋已经有十多年没打理了，回去过年，也没地方住呀。就这样，我已经脱离了家乡里的年味，渐渐适应那不习惯的城里年味。

在城里过春节，我依然惦记着家乡里的春节。在我的家乡里，每到过年的时候，村里的小伙伴总是很喜欢约我一起出去玩，晚上的时候就一起打麻将、放烟花，可在城里的小伙伴，却没有村里的小伙伴那么热情，所以，在城市里过年，我真的很寂寞呀。家乡的春节，会听到那很响亮的鞭炮声，而在城市里，却不能放鞭炮，没有了鞭炮声，我却不能感受到过年的味道，还是家乡里的春节好呀，够热闹。家乡的春节，会在除夕那天，洗浴穿新衣服，然后村里的小伙伴会出来炫耀自己的新衣服，代表着新年的新开始。而在城里的春节，除夕晚上，也就只能静静地在家里开着电视，看春晚了。

我真的很想念家乡的春节呀，时不时地，我都希望自己能回到那熟悉的家乡过春节，然后约上村里的小伙伴一起去玩、去放烟花放鞭炮，村里的小伙伴们，我想你们了。

过年了！过年了！亲友们都到奶奶家过年，大家都知道春节肯定要吃饺子，所以晚上大家都要包饺子。

中午，我看见奶奶和妈妈还有亲友们都在厨房里剁肉，和面做饺子皮包饺子。我看见大家都很累，我走进厨房决定要帮助她们一起做饺子。我拿了一块妈妈和好的面，赶成饺子皮，用勺子挖了一点饺子馅放到饺子皮上，然后我照着妈妈包饺子的样子，捏着饺子，可是我怎样捏也捏不好，只能捏成圆圆的像汤圆一样，妈妈看见我包的饺子说你的饺子的形状怎么是圆形，妈妈看我不会包，妈妈慢慢的教我，不一会儿我终于学会了。

我们就这样一直包一直包，直到把饺子馅包完为止，我包到最后饺子的形状还是给大家的不一样，还是很像圆形，但是我努力了。

不过一会，我们的饺子有用途了，我们把锅放到火上，加满了水，等到水开了，才把饺子下到了锅里面，我们坐在餐厅等了一会儿，饺子就熟了，妈妈把饺子端了上来，我们吃的津津有味，因为这是我们自己包的饺子。

我虽然包得不很好，但这是我包的饺子，它凝聚了我的心血。嚼着它，这碗饺子别提有多好吃了！

晚上，我们一家还做起了团子。将准备好的豆沙馅料包进面粉团内。看似简单，妈妈倒是包的有模有样，我包的总是奇形怪状，要不太扁，像馅饼;要不太厚，馅可能只能尝到一点，剩下，只能吃面团

了。想着，都觉得难吃啊。不知道做到第几个团子，终于能做得又圆但又大小适中了，不容易啊。一旁的妈妈见我脸上都有面粉，活像一个大花猫了，不光自己笑，还将爸爸叫来看我的囧样。而我，则

跑去洗手间一照镜子，也哈哈大笑，简直是个白脸妖怪。在欢声笑语中，年味仿佛又浓了许多。

大年三十的晚上，家家户户都要吃年饭。我们也不例外。

Chinese New Year starts with the new moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the the full days later. In china,people regard Spring Festival as the most important thing.People studied and worked throughout the year.No matter how far and how busy, they must do their best to go back home.Thats a tradition and now becoming a habit. During this time,transport is extremely busy.Although the way is difficult,it cant reduce the urgent feeling of going home.I cant describe this feeling,only the people that experienced it can understand.Actually,on one hand,people miss their family,and they need to get comfort in the family.On the other hand,getting together is a symbol of blessedness and auspiciousness.People in other country dont have this consciousness that going home is necessary.For example,American could celebrate the Christmas in everywhere they like or with anybody.This diversity is occasioned by different culture between two countries.
