多年以后，面对火葬场上空蒸腾着的黑烟，殓妆师沈素将会回想起，她打扮的第一具尸体留在她手心的凉意。

起初，沈素无法适应这种待遇，常偷偷抹眼泪，可后来，她想通了。殓妆师本来就泡在死人堆里，应该和死人做朋友啊。于是买了一双薄手套来戴，一年四季地不摘下——除了工作的时候。她本该过她的安稳日子，直到有一天，媒婆问她要不要去相亲，和一个亡妻的长途司机。
