元宵节时，吃汤圆是一大习俗。圆圆的“上元丸”象征着团圆、吉祥、美满之意。泉州的元宵丸制法独特，馅料多样：花生米、芝麻、白糖、冬瓜糖、葱头……裹上一层糯米皮，用开水煮好的元宵丸，洁白细嫩，吃香甜可口，人见人爱。

元宵期间，泉州市区主要街道走廊上悬造型奇特、构思新颖的花灯，它成了元宵节一道亮丽的风景线。花灯的主展区设在文庙，元宵之夜，这里人山人海，灯火辉煌。今年是虎年，与虎的花灯最是显眼，广场四只卡通老虎敲锣打鼓，大榕树下面两虎威风凛凛。

与“海西”的花灯更引人注目。塔灯是东西塔的造型，柱灯是闽台缘博物馆的龙柱模型，帆船灯“海西号”“海西新视野”灯彰显海峡西岸的蓬勃发展，象征大陆渴望宝岛台湾回归的迫切心情。欣赏文庙的灯会，犹如置身于泉州的文化宝库里，让人如痴如醉，为之兴奋，为之鼓舞。
