When memory began for me, my grandfather was past sixty-a great tall man

with thick hair becoming gray. He had black eyes and a straight nose which ended

in a slightly flattened tip. Once he explained seriously to me that he got that

flattened tip as a small child when he fell down and stepped on his nose.

The little marks of laughter at the corners of his eyes were the prodnct of

a kindly and humorous nature. The years of work which had bent his shoulders had

never dulled his humour nor his love of a joke.

Everywhere he went, "Gramp" made friends easily. At the end of half an hour

you felt you had known him all your life. I soon learned that he hated to give

orders , but that when he had to, he tried to make his orders sound like

suggestions.

One July morning, as he was leaving to go to the cornfield, he said :

"Edwin, you can pick up the potatoes in the field today if you want to do that.

" Then he drove away with his horses.

The day passed, and I did not have any desire to pick up potatoes. Evening

came and the potatoes were still in the field. Gramp, dusty and tired, led the

horses to get their drink.

"How many bags of potatoes were there?" Gramp inquired. "I dont know.

"

"How many potatoes did you pick up?"

"I didnt pick any. " "Not any! Why not?"

"You said I could pick, them up if I wanted to. You didnt say I had to.

"

In the next few minutes I learned a lesson I would not forget: when Gramp

said I could if I wanted to, he meant that I should want to.

Gram hated cruelty and injustice. The injustices of history, even those of

a thousand years before, angered her as much as the injustices of her own

day.

She also had a deep love of beauty. When she was almost seventy-five, and

had gone to live with one of her daughters, she spent a delightful morning

washing dishes because, as she said, the beautiful patterns on the dishes gave

her pleasure. The bird, the flowers, the clouds-all that was beautiful around

her- pleased her. She was like the father of the French painter, Millet, who

used to gather grass and show it to his son , saying , "See how beautif ul this

is ! "

In a pioneer society it is the harder qualities of mind and character that

are of value. The softer virtues are considered unnecessary. Men and women

struggling daily to earn a living are unable, even for a moment, to forget the

business of preserving their lives. Only unusual people, like my grandparents,

manage to keep the softer qualities in a world of daily struggle.

Such were the two people with whom I spent the months from June to

September in the wonderful days of summer and youth.

夸夸我自己枣庄市中区实验小学四年级二班汪姚楚珂俗话说：“王婆卖瓜，自卖自夸！”不过，这也不是那个年代了，不做广告谁知道？今天，我就做一回王婆，夸一回自己！我是一个活泼可爱、聪明的小女孩。我的爱好十分广泛：画画、剪纸、读书、写作文……学习也挺好，曾获得一次四好学生。在实验小学上四年级！我的作文顶呱呱！可一点都不假哦！二年级时就发表了两篇文章。三年级时，在《新语文学习·小学作文》上发表了一篇文章《蟹儿》，报社给我寄来了10元钱和一个奖状，我的心里比吃蜜还甜！最棒的是《姥姥的爱》和《姥姥的微笑》分别在第11届中国少年作家杯获得三等奖和第14届天文杯上获得特等奖，创下本人目前为止的最高纪录。我还在学校的启明星露过光呢？“哎呦喂，哎呦喂！”我捂着耳朵求饶。说起我这个条“小书虫”，N次被老妈从被窝里抓出来，就来装睡都被老妈的“火眼金睛”，待老妈走后，我又做起了我的“被窝工作”，嘿嘿！嗨，我真棒！嘘！不能再跟你聊了啦！我要回去做英语练习了

People always say that we are lacking of the eyes of realizing the beauty

in life. I can’t agree with it anymore. Last week, I woke up very early in the

morning, so I decided to take a walk. The street was very quiet and there were

many old people dancing in the square. Without many cars, I realized the city

looked so clean and beautiful. Some coffee shops decorates so well, which

attrated my eyes. The city was coverd by the green trees, which made it a green

city. I liked this feeling so much. At this moment, I found the city was so

lovely, I just ingored its beauty usually.

Tuesday is my birthday , my boyfriend spent with me . This birthday is the

first birthday who spent with me . We had a good evening , he sent me a present

and we had a delicious dinner. I am very happy that my roommate also sent a

present to me .

I found something have become better , I believe the god is blessing me! He

gave me some hard things and bad luck ,then gave me happiness and lover .

I have touched with my good high school classmates ,they are also in

Shanghai.

I thank the god , he let me studay more in the society.( thank god for all

he let me study in the society.)I thank myself , I am a optimistic girl , I am a

idealism girl . I need more social experience.

When I was a little girl, I didn＇t live a happy life. Because I was not able to do what my mom and teachers wanted me to do. I didn＇t get high marks. I liked doing things that they thought not proper enough. Only dad was on my side. He encouraged me to do what I liked. He told me to believe in myseff. He knew that I loved playing the violin, so he bought one for me and asked someone to teach me. Now I was very good at it. I once played abroad and get the third prize in a world violin contest for children.I would become an excellent violin player if I worked hard and always believed in myself.

我的童年并不快乐。因为妈妈和老师想让我做的事情我一件都做不好。我考试得不了高分，我喜欢做一些他们认为是不正确的事情。只有爸爸支持我。他鼓励我做自己喜欢做的事情，告诉我要相信自己。他知道我喜欢拉小提琴，就给我买了一把，还请来了老师教我。我现在已经能够拉得很好了。我曾经在世界儿童小提琴比赛中获得三等奖。如果我努力学习并且一直相信自己，我一定会成为一名出色的小提琴家。
